Yes, good tips. We have been traveling with our 2 kids for almost three years now. Lots of problems all the time. What I learned is most important: get a night flight. My knowledge just increased, thanks.
@@BagsPackedFamilyafter seeing your video, I swear upon my life to work as hard as possible so that my family can be in business or even first class. You should try business class too!
It is a very informative and detailed video. You speak so eloquently and clearly. Looks like the kids who travelled with you are patient and calm. Great job.
ORD is definitely our home away from home at the moment. :-) We happened upon the staggered meal idea on one of our earlier international flights. Now's it's a must-do when traveling with younger kids!
about the meals also, I flew with air New Zealand so i dont know if it was just there policy but when they bought the food out I just asked if i could get mine a little later because I was nursing, and they had no problem with it. Same thing as when my toddler was sleeping. Only reason why i mention this is if you dont want a vegetarian or vegan meal, you could always just ask for them to delay it
Thanks, guys! This summer we're flying back to the US for a bit. It will be very interesting to see how our youngest handles the 14-hour flight as now a walking and cruising little dude!
These are some GREAT tips. And this is coming from parents who fly ALL the time with our kids. Granted, we only have 2. Three seems even tougher! Good on you :)
These are some of the first videos I watched when I found you I have watched every single one of your videos even multiple times more then once congratulations on your new journey 🎉 get home party sounds like a plan 😂 but nothing like sitting in the family couch eating great food kicking off the shoes watching the game playing some football or any games
Thank you! It will be interesting this summer when we fly back to the US and that sweet little baby is 1.5 years old. Hopefully, he won't be too much of a monster!!
This video is perfect for me! I'll be on a plane for 10 hours (not as long as yours but decently scary long too) in a few weeks so this is a great one!
Having to travel alone with a 3 and 1 year old on a 12 hour long haul flight this summer…I know the situation isn’t quite the same but this video and other parents out there doing it is bringing me so much peace!
Your family seems to have travel really down to a science. You make it look very calm and easy considering you are traveling as a unit of 5. Great video and very informative :)
Flying with kids is always an adventure in itself! Our fingers are always crossed that there won't be any major kid, or parent, breakdowns on the flight! :-)
It's definitely worth double checking your CC to seek what perks are offered. If you're looking for a new travel card, check out the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve. The kids did great on that flight. Time will tell for the next one!
A wealth of great tips even for traveling solo! You and your wife are a great team to make this kind of travel work with 3 children. My wife and I enjoyed watching!
Do you recommend choosing the bulkhead sets for families with children? I'll be traveling with my siblings and their children ages 1-5 years old. It's a 14 hour flight and I wanted to make sure everyone is comfortable especially the kids who are flying for the first time.
Great! I've never seen your videos before, I love how you get to the point with all of you hacks instead of all the useless fluff in between!! Since becoming full time travellers early in the year me and Marti have also got premium credit cards that give us access to lounges, well worth the annual fee. Thanks for sharing your tips! :) Sub'd
Thanks, guys! Our channel is fairly new, so I'm glad it caught your eye. I appreciate your feedback on getting to the point and cutting the useless fluff! 😆 Premium credit cards are definitely the way to go as a frequent traveler. It's awesome that you guys made the jump to full-time travelers! Very inspiring! I look forward to following your journey!
How well did it go in their first years? I think it is horrific when they are in the crying age. I need to have a look at the lounges part, see if my British Airways ones give me access or not.
Let's just say the kid's first years aren't on RUclips for a reason! 😇 Although baby Forest is quickly approaching the flying danger zone age 😈 Airport lounges are pretty great when traveling long haul, especially during layovers. We utilize Priority Pass through one of our premium travel credit cards. You mentioned British Airways, they are a transfer partner with Chase, so the Chase Sapphire Reserve might be worth looking into. Plus The Aspire lounge at LHR (T5) is pretty sweet if you're in and out of Heathrow.
The bassinet was is provided by Emirates airlines directly. On long-haul international flights, Emirates (and some other airlines) let’s families, with a child under 2, book the bulkhead row for free. It’s that row that has the bassinet hook ups. The flight attendants will hook it up once the plane reaches altitude. Regardless of if you use the bassinet, having the bulkhead row provides a huge advantage in terms of space and maneuverability for parents. 👶✈️👍
I'm curious ticket price versus other airlines. I fly Delta/ Air Canada /Air China mostly they don't give package out but I'm assuming ticket prices are cheaperm
Hi Maggie, Thanks for the comment. The reason we went with Emirates airlines on that particular flight was the fact that they were the only airline that had a non-stop flight. Full price, this trip would have cost $5773 round trip which is more than some airlines out of Dubai, but the only non-stop to Chicago (DXB-ORD-DXB). Typically, we always look for convenience over price within a reasonable limit. We also consider travel partners with our credit cards.
Hi. Those large duffel bags are checked baggage for us. As we live overseas, we use them to mainly carry bulk items we buy in the US to bring back to Indonesia. They’re great because they are larger and weigh less then large suitcases. :-)
This is great. I have a question, how are you able to book those type of seats with the board in the front of you. Can you pick those seats before hand, or do you have to let the flight attendant know you have a 5/6 moth old baby that needs a crib?
With Emirates Airline, you can book the bulkhead row for free if you child is under 24 months old. The airlines will provide the bassinet, also for free.
Hello, Great Video :) I'm travelling with my 2 kids (3 & 5) first time. My flight is Air Canada from Canada to US and from US to Germany its is Lufthansa. Air Canada emailed us saying they will seat us together but I haven't heard anything from Lufthansa. My question is does international flights try to seat the family together or they can seta us separate?
At this point, we've flown many long haul international flight. The airlines have always put our family together, but that doesn't guarantee that they always will.
The hardest things was definitely when the kids would have tantrums on the planes. Typically, we would just have to ride them out. Luckily, Forest is just about our of that phase. 😬
No, the bassinet is free to us as long as your child is under 2, and you are in the bulkhead row. With a child under 2, you can book the bulkhead row for free on Emirates. It's a great perk. :-) Enjoy your adventure!
In this video, he's over 6 months old. We used the bassinet on all of our international fights even when he was 22 months old. The flight attendants usually ask if we want it. Once the plane is at altitude, if they haven't offered, be sure to request the bassinet.
Haii..if we get IAmsterdam card we get discounts on museums also right.!! My kid is 4yr old..does she any card to get discounts on museums and can travel around in public transport
We have a 4 years old and a 2year and 5 month toddler and we are so worried to travel overseas (15 hour flight to Dubai and a 3 hour flight after) Any added tips for this age ? How old were your older babies at the time of the video ? Thank you so much for sharing !!
Awesome! We’ve now flown internationally many times with our kids, and overall, it’s always been a pretty good experience. In this video, our kids are 7, 5, and almost 1. They are now 9, 7, and 2. If you’re flying Emirates airlines, you will be able to book the bassinet (bulkhead) row for free. Definitely take it! This will give you a lot more room to maneuver. Also, like in the video, make sure to order the special kids meals for your 4 and 2 year old, and one adult special order meal (vegetarian, vegan, or whatever option you want). By ordering one adult special meal, it will come out with the kids meals, and both adults won’t both be stuck with food trays if the baby needs help. Your biggest challenge will probably be your 2 year old. They’re just too young to watch 15 hours of movies 🤪 Emirates airlines provides pretty good kid amenity kits, but you want to supplement with the crayons, little toys, sticky things like tape and window gel toys, etc. We also brought comfortable kid size to headphones for our older children. One thing to remember, is that the kids will probably cry or scream at some point. It’s ok, and it will pass. Kelly and I have each had shifts dealing with a crying baby on a long haul flight. Taking the kids on “ mandatory” walking/ stretching breaks every hour or so is helpful. You might consider bringing a car seat on the plane for the 2 year old if he/she is used to the car seat- we haven’t done this because it’s “one more thing” to carry but often wish we had it for take off and landing.
At the time, he was under 24 months. On most international flights, under 2 is free as long as they are held in the lap. On Emirates, with an under 2, you can choose your your seats for free. The best seats to pick are the bulk head row which is used to snap on the airline provided bassinet.
I would never travel with kids. They will ruin your vacation, explode your budget and they won't even remember anything when they get older. I would let them stay at their cousin's house for one week and totally enjoy my trip with my wife.
I reading your comment as we’re dealing with a total baby tantrum in the middle of a market in Raja Ampat, Indonesia 🇮🇩 I wonder if we can fly our three kids solo to their cousin’s house??🧐 🤣

That’s very nice of you to say. Thank you for the blessing. :-)
We've flown out of Chicago dozens of time! (Our former home before leaving to travel). Great idea with the staggered meal!
