I think those that didn't see it live forget how lethal that "John Smith single" was!! If you slow them down you'd be amazed at how low he got. I had a poster in my room of it when I was a kid. That single leg will never be duplicated.
John Smith taking textbook shots and Mr . Scramble. John was reaching his prime and run on olympiic and WC to become the best American wrestler of all time.
Austin Havard you’re right. And Skyman Chronicles yup! John won 1st & 3rd(or 2nd & 3rd match; cant remember which order) of these in 88’. However Austin, you are correct, Lewis did win once in the 88’ Qualifier for the Olympics. Think they wrestled each other 3 times in 88’ & John went 2-1 in the series that year if I’m not mistaken. ruclips.net/video/tXbdleSsNwo/видео.html
What? You think Randy should get some kind of freebie for choosing to wrestle with a bad knee? No, just like John Smith doesn’t get a freebie for choosing to wrestle with a broken hand.
Randy was miraculously okay 30 seconds earlier. His whining stopped John's advancing and potentially adding back points to the take down. Guys pull the ol' possum knee thing alot in high stakes. It was a ruse
@@daytonasayswhat9333 An announcer in another video said his hand was broken. But maybe it was only some of his fingers. Search for "His bent and stubby fingers that had been broken four or five times" to find a 1988 news article saying that.
Cold blooded .... Askin' for two exposure after ripping Lewis' s knee in half. AND THEN JWS stares at him like "that's what I thought" as he walks back to his corner.
anyone know what exactly Lewis's injury was there? had my knee injured in the same exact position and way but was never able to get a proper diagnosis.
Yes, the diagnosis of Lewis’ knee injury is known as Fakous Ligamentous Injurious. This is a fairly common injury that is believed to occur when one’s lungs are on fire, exhaustion has set in, and being on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Although this unusual medical condition affected a knee in this bout, it can spontaneously happen to any joint and has even affected shoelaces which mysteriously come untied for no apparent reason. Unfortunately, it is a medical diagnosis that still rears it’s ugly head today at all levels with no known treatment except lots of rest.
@@jasonswift9310 At similar points of their careers, Lee has Smith beat by every measure. He had a more successful high school career than Smith, a better cadet and juniors international career, a better college career, and has already won the Sullivan. Spencer has a lot of work to do to match Smith's two gold medals, and 6 consecutive World Championships, but on paper he's capable of doing it. Now, when it comes to Fix, I couldn't agree with you more. He's a boring, stalling, steroid using loser.
Too hard to watch when a knee injury is involved, and the last person you want to face in that situation is John Smith. Nevertheless, credit to Randy Lewis for continuing despite the obvious pain, but it probably should have been stopped sooner.
Two of America's best wrestlers of all time!!!
Everyone wants to talk about John's low single. But I think the duck unders he hit were absolutely flawless and amazing.
Yeah, straight Hi C was amazing too.

People are too good at scrambling now. It wouldn’t be nearly as effective on today’s wrestlers.
John Smith taking textbook shots and Mr . Scramble. John was reaching his prime and run on olympiic and WC to become the best American wrestler of all time.
Man Johnny Hendricks looks super young here
That shot was lightning fast!! Lewis is a legend and a monster. But can’t stop lightning!
He won the 1st bout

Lewis was a total stud…and the goat put on a low single and super duck clinic.
I love how at/around 5:55 John Smith asks for points when Randy Lewis is injured.
What? You think Randy should get some kind of freebie for choosing to wrestle with a bad knee? No, just like John Smith doesn’t get a freebie for choosing to wrestle with a broken hand.
yes sir it's a lil thing called GIMME MY POINTS ! Bcuz it IS - THE - -OLYMPIC TRIALS

Amazing! I think Randy had the edge with strength. But John was so fast, aggressive, & flexible. Also John had amazing stamina.
RIGHT from the start we can see what a dangerous wrestler Lewis was but once John Smith gets his groove Rollin, LOOK OUT
Smith hits that low ankle shot like a Diamondback rattlesnake
Faster than a rattlesnake. You know it’s coming, no way to stop it. Loved watching both these guys back in the day.
Flowreslting needs to do a special on this match up and the controversy between Leroy Smith and Randy Lewis, and the lead up to this match.
Totally, have you listened to the “wrestling change my life” podcast? Great stuff. 💀🔥
@@skeletonshorror5184 No I've never heard that podcast. Do they talk about this match?
@@uc9218 yeah, they dedicated 7 episodes on the smith family
I like how in the Smith audio documentary, Randy says that John beat him at his best...
Two of the greatest meeting head to head! Wish we could've seen Lewis without the knee injury. That really took away half of his offense
Cold blooded .... Askin' for two exposure after ripping Lewis' s knee in half. AND THEN JWS stares at him like "that's what I thought" as he walks back to his corner.
Was Lewis's knoe injured in the first match of this series?
John Smith has some Gucci Ringers!

One pec wonder
Lewis was clearly hurt. That knee wasn't right from the start. His only chance was Defense.
Don't think Randy shot once the whole match
He didn’t shoot at all in match 1
Bad match up for Lewis. Can’t throw or junk someone that never attacks above the knees.
