Both of them have been voicing each Sonic character in Japan for 25 years now since Sonic Adventure in 1998. However, Taeko Kawata took her maternity leave from 2000 to 2001 while her role was temporarily taken by Emi Motoi for Sonic Shuffle. Kawata returns to voicing Amy in Sonic Adventure 2 since then.
