Honestly, indeed "legitimacy of elections are no longer with the people but with politicians and Judges." Many of us commoners no longer bother to vote many years ago. What's the use voting. I said it before and TVC refused to post my comments. This supreme court judgment has more to it than meet the eye. There's the visible hand of a monkey manipulating the matter to deal with a current corrupt situation. How can the country move forward by using a seemingly legal method to solve a corrupt situation. Politicians and Judges, una de play. Don't run o. Stay and face the music when the time comes.

What Professor Kalu is simply explaining is that you cannot employ dirty water, dirty bowl and dirty soap in for the process of restoring a piece of dirty white clothing back to its whiteness. And I think this should not be too difficult for anyone to understand.

I humbly suggest to the host/anchor to watch this interview again and then check his dictionary for the meaning of the words "afraid" and "facts". Perhaps then he might understand how some (if not most) viewers (as well as his guest) may perceive his attitude as being uncomfortable whenever the guest's responses to his questions were different from the script he (the host) had written beforehand. I'm pretty sure he can do better than that but of course, he's not "afraid"! Speaking for me and just me, I must thank him though for inviting Professor Odinkalu to this interview.

Uzoma, if you as a journalist can not stand the frankness of Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, don't invite him to your station for an interview because he's not one of those that will sugar-coat words for you. It's only those who don't have honour that come to your station and be massaging the egos of politicians. Do you think these journalists in Nigeria (if they can be referred to as one) go back to read comments by their viewers? The failure of the institutions that has contributed to the failure of the country is not unique to the judiciary and law enforcement alone. The news media, as represented by the host of this program, exemplifies the inadequacies of the media to play their part in a liberal democracy. Frankly, I became irritated when this host kept pushing a mindset in contravention of the point his guest was making repeatedly. To make the matter worse, he referred to himself as a journalist. The jury is out whether we can truly call him a journalist or simply someone hosting a tv program.

This Journalist is a mere questions asking Journalist. He said so. They(his types) are always afraid to do investigations because exposing flaws in governments would make them lose patronage. Lazy and dogmatic as usual. He was not listening to the date(year) the Professor was reeling out. The guest is a very patient man.

Mr negative thinker, take the win please. We can only get better by moving gradually towards total correction of the injustices perpetrated by politicians over the years. There is no automatic button to solve all the problems at once. At least give kudos to the president for being unselfish and not pandering to the governors. This move might even cost him a second term tickets because the governors are definitely not happy. The next move is for the national assembly to make laws that will enhance this supreme Court decision especially with regards to how the LGA chairmen are elected. The president has more work to do and I believe he has the political clout to see it through.kudos mr president

@@arinzeagbo8699 this judgement is surely a way forward. Except you are biased in one way or the other and or never interested in the Nigerian project. A lot of you are so used to activism and complaining about the problems we are facing as a country to an extent that you don't recognize when a positive has been achieved. We have to start recognising the positives and harping on them so politicians don't find a way to flout them again. No magic wand can take our problems away, positives like this judgement chips away at the problems bit by bit until we get to the promise land. Be optimistic

The intent of an action supersedes the action. Believe politicians and the crop of current Nigerian judicial officers at your own peril.
This might sound good on the surface, but the underground mechanics might be far from what we allude to. We can critique differing thoughts and opinions but attacks on persons are not welcomed even as one would like to be treated. Politicians have used and continue to use such potent misguided lines to divide us. Time shall tell. However, any attempt at not taking power back to the people will not augur well with the nation.

    • @toinspire9063
      @toinspire9063 21 день назад +1

@@joegreg1038 my comment was never meant as an attack but to expose the mindset of Prof odinkalu which has mostly been to see any issue of discourse from a negative point of view. The issue here is simple and straightforward, it's a supreme court decision which is binding on all and will from now be referenced in the court of law, no need to over analyse it, the supreme Court has given the power back to the people. Now we can hold our LGA chairman responsible for everything at the grassroot. Maybe you are not seeing that this judgement makes the ordinary citizen closer to power amd govt than before, now no LGA chairman will dare not perform. As I believe its the case with Prof odinkalu, most of us don't even like the people occupying power in nigeria now but what makes us advocates of good governance in nigeria is when we recognize and speak the truth when Good has been done even if it seems we are praising people we don't like. People are not fools, if you claim to be fighting for them but you cannot say good has been done when it has then they won't trust you. I don't even trust people that criticise always and never own up when they see something good

The prof. Made it clear that he hasn't read the judgement but he is subtly condemning the judgement, What a shame.
The judgement stated that only elected chairperson can get the money.
This will increase People's engagement in local politics. Now people with great ideas will come forward, since it doesn't require huge funds to run local campaigns, compared to even state rep. & Senate election.
Local government chairman don't enjoy immunity, they know they can be prosecuted ,if they mismanaged funds, therefore they are not gonna handover any fund to any governor.
Now people can access the local government with immediate problems and they got no excuse.
You can only rig election where you enjoy some level of popularity or the people are not interested in the politics.

The Delta Local Government election that was held over the weekend where PDP swept all the chairmanship positions and councilorship position will also be labeled election by your reckoning. In Nigeria, we live in pretences. The financial autonomy is only but a mirage. Governors will merely be conducting LG election where their minions will be selected as chairmen. In addressing financial autonomy, the nature of the recruitment process of chairmen must also be streamlined and addressed.
Could you list three States where the opposition parties have won the LG elections in Nigeria?
Financial autonomy without addressing the pertinent question of the nature of election at that tier, will amount to nought.
