Some people were commenting on this preview on Instagram saying how can Courtney be surprised about being s*xualized when they make inappropriate jokes often. I don’t think Courtney could have explained it more clearly. They’re okay with being that way on their own terms. That’s all there is to it. Consent.
Making dirty jokes with friends is fun because it happens between friends, there is an added context there. It is weird when strangers on the internet expect the same grace towards their own jokes, when its very obvious that the creators and the random people online are not friends. Plus, its one thing to make jokes about yourself and your life, its very different to make sexual comments about someone else's body, more so because half of them are not really jokes.
Hit the nail on the head.
It's also very different to be cast as the "bikini girl" or "sexy girl" 99% of the time basically as a prop, and to choose to do those roles 1% of the time, with purpose.
That and it the others also make sexual jokes, so Courtney being the one that was objectified / sexualised was clearly not because of that.
They were being reduced to their body. That's not remotely comparable, and i always side eye ppl who like to pretend one excuses the other
Then there's the folks who think if someone else is pretty, popular, or wealthy that they *deserve* certain responses, i.e., had it coming. It's wreaks of insecurities.

Him and Arasha are so eloquent and emotionally inteligent. We are blessed whenever they get the chance to just talk more, about more real stuff, like their comments in the reddit series are always insightful.

9:08 I recalled when Anthony was interviewing Shayne, Anthony pointed out that the original intent of Ian and Anthony is to slowly integrate casts into the skits in minor roles and slowly push them to more major roles, but Defy pushed the cast to be major people out of the gate for better or worse.
Looking back at the newer skits past food battle, it's great to see the casts be more abundant to the minor roles that gives the best impact and I am eager to see the cast potentially take on major cast or even writer or directorial roles because they all have their own humor that aligns with the OG Duo's humor.

As someone who came back because Ian and Anthony bought Smosh and was curious to see what would happen, the nostalgia definitely grabbed me back, and getting to know the other cast members has me obsessed now. I really do think it was a good call on their part. But now I'm definitely excited to see everyone else get to feature more in skits!
And it honestly just goes to show how genuine they are with their content, to the point where they *know* how to do things right with their audience, and have always known.

Court talking about the previous Smosh era makes me so sad but also so proud of them! They’re still here and I think Smosh and their new awareness on how to treat women is mainly thanks to them. ❤
For real. Courtney really gets to hold the badge for paving the way for women in Smosh, and drawing the line between what is ok and comedy and what is not ok and degrading. Their experience is insane to think about and im glad they're still here. Definitely one of the pillars of Smosh

Chanse Mid-Show performance during the Funeral Roast of Anthony made me think that Chanse soon will be an actor that will break out on the big screen or the big stages.
Honestly, of all the cast members, he feels like the one who will someday go big.

I'm so glad that Smosh seems like a much healthier place to work now. We all deserve a healthy work environment. But it sucked that eggs had to be cracked to get there.
Arasha and Chanse are the most underrated cast members and I hope Smosh highlights their talents more in the future. The funeral halftime show was an amazing display from Chanse but it's now lost media

Arasha and Chanse are probably some of Smosh's best hiring decisions to date. As someone who went away during the post-Anthony PG period of the channel, coming back and getting acquainted with the cast is really something else. Taking the nostalgia goggles off, this entire iteration of Smosh is much better than what I grew up on.
Great that they acknowledged new cast members getting flak just for being new. It’s been consistent since 2016. The og squad got hate, then Amanda, Kimmy and Jackie got hate, then Angela, chanse and Arasha, and now Trevor’s kind of getting heat too. People just flip out over change for no damn reason
Arasha really deserves to be a well known actress. She is so talented and also is a very emotionally intelligent human. Here you go, I just said it cause it's true. 💪🏻

Chanse's take on self-doubt is honestly kind of life-changing... I've never thought about how "useful" or not some of my feelings can be.
really? interesting. i know when feelings are unhelpful but that just stresses me out more because they can’t really be unfelt.
@horizonkyun7203 I think I'm often more in tune with what others are feeling than what I am. Or I somehow know feelings are unhelpful without knowing that's what I'm labeling it as? It's weird. But him saying there's no room for self-doubt and it's not useful is amazing.
So I know Chance didnt go into detail about how to go about changing your perspective on self doubt, so I'll offer this to someone that wants to try incorporating it in their life.
Ask yourself this "What would *this* look like if I dont doubt myself"
Ask yourself what it would look like, sound like, feel like if you stop doubting yourself. What does you day look like? Your week?
The goal is to build that visual language and then execute with it in mind. Start small and then go bigger.
It all starts in your mind, and you trigger that new mentality by asking yourself "what would it look like?"

Nah, Im happy all these professionals get to stay sharp with their skills due their job at Smosh and that it makes sure pursuing actor jobs is even fiscally a choice. Like Im going to celebrate whenever I see them in ads and other work. Even if it's Arasha accidentally doing an ad for The Right Stuff, like yes still get that bag!!

Courtney saying "Smosh was for kids the same way that South Park was for kids, as in I secretly snuck my parents tiny TV to watch it" is so on the money. I got into Smosh when I was like 9 or 10 watching it on the family computer after school (my only way to access the internet or RUclips cuz it was like 2011 so kids didn't all have phones and stuff at my age) and I would always be hovering over the physical volume buttons on the monitor to quickly spam the volume down to 0 if I heard an adult coming so that they couldn't hear all the swearing and stuff. Smosh literally was what got me to learn swear words and then start using them 😅
Arasha saying she doesn’t compete with already existing class clowns make perfect sense. She is one of Smosh’s most reserved on-screen personalities.
Shayne is often described himself and others as reserved off-camera. But, Arasha is reserved off and on camera.

I stopped watching Smosh content after Anthony left and started up again after he came back. I have to say, coming back I find that the entire Smosh cast makes Smosh stronger and more enjoyable overall. I can't say that I dislike or even am "meh" with any of the cast. They each bring something unique and fun and I think I might watch more Smosh content now than I did before.
I love everyone on the cast.

So many incredible takes in this video, they are so smart and articulated. I especially loved Chanse’s answer to the “fighting for attention” question (if they laugh with you they don’t laugh at you, what a quote), Courtney’s whole speech about choosing to be hot vs being sexualized and it’s awesome that Arasha manages to adapt her vibe to whatever’s lacking in videos
It’s so beautiful to see how much smosh has evolved. Watching smosh in the past you never realized what was really going on behind the scenes and what they did and didn’t have control over. It’s beautiful to see the fun stuff Ian and Anthony have been creating for these channels but also seeing these other members get to rise up and do more too.
The biggest question I have for the cast is, was there ever a point where they wanted to quit smosh because of how they were treated? Or did Ian ever consider stopping smosh completely when Anthony decided to leave? It seems like they all love their jobs but have they ever thought about quitting to pursue different avenues.

8:18 - I'm pretty sure the reason the audience is so accepting of newcomers to Smosh is BECAUSE Smosh has become something larger than Ian and Anthony. Back then Ian and Anthony was what people subscribed for. As those folks waned off or stuck around for the new content and cast, the variety in people and content forms was the thing people were subbed for. So adding new people and trying new video content ideas is exactly what the new audience is down for.
I love that Courtney really explains that women being sexual in a video is ok as long as she has consented to the idea. Thats part of feminism too… having the choice to present yourself in any way you want!

Courtney telling about the smosh group not being well received reminds me of Anthony's interview with Shayne, where Anthony mentioned that Ian and him wanted to introduce them all slowly so that viewers warm up and get used to them but Defy kinda rushed their introductions.
Arasha and Chanse, you've been a delight for smosh. I've been watching smosh since it started and you only make it better. Courtney, I feel that you've become a fundamental structure to what smosh has become and without you, it probably wouldn't still be around now. Thank you for dealing with the hard times and helping to keep smosh alive.

I was never an old smosh fan. Not for any reason, I was just into a different part of youtube. However, I started watching smosh when Anthony returned, but I stayed for the cast. Smosh is having a really incredible era right now.

Courtney made a good poimt about how back in the day, new meant bad because people dont like change... but Id argue thats still the case, and its only because of how amazingly Chanse, Angela and Arasha fit in and wowed us all that that DIDNT happen with them. (For the record, I liked Matt too and feel so bad/awkward when he appears in compliations. I hope hes doing well!) Whoever hired these three did an absolutely amazing job.

@hinasakukimi we're talking about different Matts I think as Boze was years ago and the Matt I'm talking about was hired alongside Chanse Angela and Arasha so appeared in a few videos around that time. He didn't make it past the trial period I guess, though.

So true. People get SO CONFUSED when I say that I'm "gay" as a non-binary trans masc. Honestly I totally see how Courtney or Chanse identify. I find myself more attracted to men and nonbinary people, demi with women.

Also I think with everyone involved in smosh right now, you can see the love they all have for eachother and the friendship. Everyone just fits into smosh so well and I’m glad we as viewers get to see this too.
I grew up literally minuets form the smosh house, and would walk by it on my way to a friends house almost every day. Courtney is someone I have always looked up to as a young person growing up. I wanted to hug them all throughout these questions. Arasha has quickly become a favorite, and it hurt when she said she felt so "loved and that was definitely new to me" like...baby you deserve to feel loved I'm sorry you didn't feel that before. Chanse is a gem and I adore him and what he brings to shoots and videos

Read this right when your assumption came up. As someone who's pretty introverted and self conscious/often self doubting, I've always respected Chance's self confidence. Especially since like Courtney said he's not cocky or arrogant about it.
Everytime Chanse is in a Smosh video or any video... I feel safe.. when my life is falling apart I feel like he calms me down and makes me think outside my own head. And wow does he made me laugh!! I adore every single person on Smosh, but Chanse, Angela, Shayne and Tommy are such a huge reason why I always come back to watch! (Also Ian and Anthony OFC I'm an OG)

My favorite moments about where smosh is now have to be getting to see those moments of genuine fun fused with the acting chops everyone brings and the Real People being candid and earnest. It’s just been very refreshing

I don't know why I cried, but when Chanse just honestly said he doesn't self doubt a lot, I WANTED THAT!!!! Thanks for preaching that we can normalize that and not be shy and like "no, i doubt. myself a lot" to sound humble. I WANNA BE SO CONFIDENT IN MYSELF TOO!!! This is why I love you, Chanse!!!! Everyone is different and unique in their own way, OP. The first step towards confidence is accepting who you are. Some people just feel anxiety more sharply than others, and its not even your experiences or baggage, but it's just nature. Understanding what drives your self doubt, facing unresolved feelings and having a good support network is what's confidence is all about.
I hope that you can be who you wish to be.
I related so much to Arasha talking about being the quieter personality when someone with a more dominating personality is there. Some people would assume I’m quiet but then find when I’m in other groups and settings it’s a complete 180. I was literally just thinking about this when I was in the shower 😂 and it doesn’t bother me if someone has a bigger personality at all. It gives me a reason to just chill out for the night and be more receptive and observant

As a fan I was nervous about the whole thing. Watched smosh from 2008- 2014.
Came back to the channel in 2022 really enjoying what Ian and the cast had built.
Seeing Anthony come back was surreal and strange. After many years I gave new smosh a chance and enjoyed it but was now afriad it was going away. I'm glad to say we all won and got the best of both worlds. New smosh and old smosh united is quite powerful.

It made me so happy to hear that Chanse and Arasha felt so welcomed at Smosh. I adore the "new" cast members, they're such a fun breath of fresh air (not to say I dislike the "old" cast, I love them all just as much) and I love seeing them really shine. Arasha in particular is one of my absolute favorite channel members, she's so clever and funny, and such an incredible actress! So glad that Smosh pulled through to Defy era to get where it is now, this really is the golden era of Smosh right now!
I hope Chanse knows that him being himself and showing that confidence is very inspiring for those of us who aren’t especially regarding sexuality
OH i love this so much. i'm someone that doesn't think about smosh cast member's personal lives but still makes observations in the moment. i love getting to hear about their experiences when they grant us their comfort to share
I love how much respect and appreciation each cast member seems to have for one another.
Very excited to see the future Assumptions videos, this was super cool and everyone answered so honestly and from a compassionate space. Also shoutout to Courtney for opening up and sharing her experiences in the Defy-era of Smosh, I'm so glad she's happier in this new-age era of Smosh.
Honestly, I would be so interested to hear Mari's take on this stuff after hearing from Courtney since Mari was one of the first women on the Smosh channel.

This was a really excellent conversation! Very proud of Courtney’s journey. Chanse and Arasha are such lovely people and often are standouts for me in videos. I’m excited to see how they all continue to grow both at Smosh and elsewhere.

I’m sure you three and SMOSH as a whole hear this a lot but I hope you know how much joy and good you bring into the world.
My mother just passed away on the 21st of March, and SMOSH videos are one of the few things keeping me from completely breaking down. Thank you for all the comedy healing you put out there.
I would love to see the Smosh cast in a theater play. A big part of their content is them being silly without a script and I love that, but I see them when they're locked in character, when they talk about their creative processes on Smosh Mouth, when they're vibing in an improv game or when they're doing a great impression and I'm like please I want to see these theater kids shine 😭

I think the culture change is noticeable and the way the cast talk about their experiences highlight the growth.

Honestly I fully love these interview, one on one type talks. It's refreshing to see them in this aspect and talking straight and real, and I bet it helps them too for any separate future interviews

I remember seeing Chanse on the live show where he was the bartender and he really stood out. Both my husband and I were super pleased to see him be a cast member.
Man if u think about it Keith, Noah, Shayne, Cortney & Olivia have been through a lot from smosh fans. Like dang even I remember it being hard for me to understand smosh was just becoming something else. (Not necessarily a good or bad connotation) and I can’t imagine these guys landing a rlly nice job then having to deal with instant hate. Props 2 those guys for staying and for their help cultivating what smosh is now.

Fr when they started to appear on Smosh, all the fans started hating them because they’re not “the OG cast” and assume that Smosh has become more commercialized . And now look at that, they have been in Smosh for almost half of it’s life on YT lol
yess i loved this video so much!! the thing i love most about the newer smosh cast is how Real they feel (and im trying to say this in the least parasocial way), and i'm always excited to see more behind the scenes things with them!!
i love this so much. i love them being goofy and silly but seeing their actual thoughts behind the personas is what makes me respect them as entertainers

I love this so much. From the beginning I loved Ian and Anthony but I was one of the few who absolutely loved the smosh squad when they came in. And now with a full smosh cast of a plethora of great talents, I continue to love it. This shows how great the smosh atmosphere is now that they found a permanent home and family with their og creators . I’m so proud of the guys for coming back together and owning their brand. I’m even prouder of the amazing people they introduced us all to. I love the entire smosh family and I can’t wait to see the channels and the family grow more as time goes❤️❤️
This is super-interesting and I can’t wait to see more Smosh people in this exact format. Courtney and Arasha and Chance are such thinkers and so aware and such calm centered humans, it’s impressive!
