- Why Buy a Stabila Level? Because, it's the one tool you don't go cheap on!! If you have ever asked yourself as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, DIYer, what is so special about Stabila, and why would I spend that much on a straight edge with a bubble...Maybe you should watch the video. Your level is one tool you don't go cheap on!
It was extremely difficult to show the exact process due to their desire to not show off the exact process or machines used. I think after watching this you can get the point.
Yes, Stabila paid for my ticket to fly over and take a tour of their plant. This by no means indicates my feelings towards them. You can go way back and know I have always loved my yellow levels. I was taught from a young age that they were the benchmark, and knew I always had to have them! Now I know the method behind that madness. It's a simple equation..Do you want the best tool to ensure you are as precise as possible?
Looking for the video I referenced in the middle of my video?
Here you go! It shows a little better the process I was referring too.

If wondering wether or not I am promoting Stabila....Heck yes I am! They are the best level, and even though I always thought that before...after seeing the process, I now KNOW it. I gladly stand behind the brand because it embodies everything I stand behind...not compromising, always innovating, and being the best possible even if it costs more, or takes longer!!
RR Buildings Absolutely agree ,they are the best levels, I won't buy anything else.
I made the mistake of getting a "home brand" level of a DIY store and it went out so quickly. Tried to install a kitchen with it and it was a nightmare. I replaced it with a small and long Stabila and they are still perfect. I absolutely agree with you.
I wouldn’t worry about any criticism.
I think it’s quite nice that a quality brand thinks enough of you to invest in to promote their brand
I've got a question without engineering tools is there better way (for us tradies) of checking the accuracy of a level beyond using a flat level surface. Did they mention a self check process?
Southern German precission! 👍👍👍👍👍 Greetings from Germany!
lol at the start of the video I was thinking "wow wherever he lives certainly looks like Europe" haha, good on you for visiting the factory.
@DefinitelyNotDan well I am austrian originally and one of the issues is the labor price for all the stone work that would looks nice on those buildings. In Austria cheap landlords have the stone work removed when it should be renovated, makes the whole building look like it comes from an ex communist country. But fewer and fewer people know how to work stone...prices go up.
I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
This was very unexpected, but great video, great content, and great info. Hats off to Stabila for making this happen and supporting your channel. It shows they care about their customers.
"The level of detail and thought that goes into this."
😏
@5:20 “the amount of level” very punny! Cool video for sure! Thanks for taking us on the tour Kyle.
Like you said "knew they were the best but didn't understand why". Such a cool video. Thanks for sharing.
I purchased a Stabila level well over 30 years ago and use it almost every day.An awesome tool!
Just purchased a Stabila level. Thanks for reinforcing my decision to go with Stabila!
This levels are so accurate and durability, i love them i have my set of levels for 7 years already and i think j will never buy other brands . Thank you STABILA for you great work , from Mexico 🇲🇽.
Thank you for an informative video. I have both Sola (Austria) and Stabila levels. You cannot beat their focus on quality and precision.
wow you go far and beyond for TOOLSDAY what a great video I've been using my Stabila level for as long as i rememberer it never put a thought into it just that it works great thank you Kyle
thanks
I have had the same 1200mm Stabila for 25 years ,the other day it fell 15 feet off scaffold, bounced off the concrete floor ,still works perfectly, it is so good I set the stabilizer incedents on my giant scale rc airplane!
Hey hey, welcome here in Germany, hope you've had a good time there in Annweiler :)
Nice to learn. i just bought a 1200 mm Stabila level yesterday for my home renovation project during quarantine. I also knew they were the best but not why except that they were German.
1. Congrats on passing 1/4 million subs 2. Wow! That trip is the best product sponsor ever!
Your social networking skills are impressive man. Honestly with the viewship tool sponsorship should be a gravy train. Congrats
I've had my 4' since 1997 and it's still gnat's ass on the money. Absolutely the best there is.
Hi, A different video than normal, but an interesting subject. I think we all are less than genteel with our levels and it is great to see the amount of technical info that goes into them.
I've had a 3' Stabila for almost 20 years, it just keeps on trucking!
Cheers from Tokyo!
Bless the day I found your channel... very educational and interesting stuff here
Just a tremendous video Kyle. Glad you could get away. I have 2 Stabila levels and would trade them for anything. I also enjoyed their commercial & the Tyvek Drain, all the way through.
I have some belly button lint I'll trade for them then, since you said you would trade them for anything.
I worked a Saturday for a Stabila 72” type 87 back in 1998. Still have it today. The accuracy is still spot on. The vials are clear but the bright green is mostly gone. Still not bad for 25 years. It’s been dropped off roofs, banged around in beds of trucks, fallen over hundreds of times. It’s a survivor. Just bought a 24”
Kyle! See you from a long time! Love the reviews and the personal opinion what work best from you point of view. I really appreciate your work and efforts to put the videos. Best Nabil
Thanks
The Cadillac of Levels for sure!!! Hey Kyle thanks for the tour man”
you mean the Mercedes of Levels...
I bet these guys have really straight picture frames in their homes.
the frames got their own built in bubble
To any Stabila marketing exec watching this in the future - I watched Kyle's video when it came out back in 2019, having never heard of Stabila before. Because of this video alone and the discovery of Stabila, I've since bought seven levels, a laser, a distance finder, and the angle finder. Please share profits with Kyle accordingly, haha. Kyle, well done man, been following you for years and love everything you build. Keep it up!
Hands down the BEST levels I have ever owned ! I have 5 . Drove over one once with a scissor lift ( oops ) bent it about 5 or 7 degrees at the center bubble . Amazingly it didn't break the bubbles vial and even MORE amazingly , I stood on it to straighten it out and afterwards it's been spot on for 17 years plus ! No I'm not getting paid for the post but can't stress enough My belief that they are the best choice on the market !
Strangely enough, every house built after always has an odd 1 degree offset at the rooftop. ;) haha
I've never heard of the brand, thanks for the tour, I'll have to keep a look out for the brand. Here locally Stanley and Starrette has the market.
Awesome video. Too bad you were there on their day off. Just ordered a 48" and 16" 196 and can't wait to get them!
Great Video Brother! the Vintage Levels are Dope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for Sharing!
Yes they were
Best levels made . I've had my heavy duty 1000mm and my 1800mm levels for over a decade and still bang on .
Very cool! I’ve always wondered how they align the bubble with the aluminum extrusion. Guess I’ll never know! Lol. But I think you’ve sold me on stabila the next time I get a level
You have no idea how much I want a bucket full of tiny levels like that XD
Thanks for being on the level.
I have the 4’ smart level for percentages on some drainage lines. Best of the best!
Excellent as usual!!!
As you like woodpack, Yes i also love shed thanks for your sharing with us
Just like someone else mentioned below, I would also like to know "Why the manufactures do not decrease the space between the lines and the bubble"? It is only easier to check for level if you don't have to waste as much time trying to visualize if the spacing is equal.
Totally guessing here, but people use levels for slope to so I imagine when the bubble is touching one line and not the other it means it's a certain angle. So you need a bit of space to gauge it in that scenario. Totally guessing though.
@@johnny6071 There are levels with pitch on the market.
Heat changes the size of the bubble it’s designed for -20 C to +50 C
Stabila is a great level, and I've had mine for more than 15 year. They are extremely durable and can last forever, but there is one big problem that needs to be fixed, which will make them god. The lines that separate the eye in the meedle are to far apart, which take a lot of time to hit it dead centre. I am an installer and for me accuracy and speed is of great importance, and if Stabila looks at how Sola's eye is made, with such a small a margin between the eye and the lines, and implement that ratio in their level, Stabila will become THE best level on the market..! You were there, so please share this with them if possible. Cheers from Bulgaria.
Mate i am bulgarian and i use only sola levels i have 1 stabila level i can say the same but sola have the opposite problem the buble is dead on the lines when perfectly leveled and its sometimes so hard to read the vial without crossing your eyes
Nice visit for you I'm from Romania but live in UK lovely video
"Level of detail"..good 1!
Love my four foot bought it at a benefit auction for 10.00 yes that cheap love it it is the best.
Pretty impressive - I must say, though I'm not really surprised the way you seem. They're serious business, and have been for decades... I would say a trip to Sweden could probably be equally impressive, maybe not in numbers, but definitely in quality. Hultafors is no joke either. Far from it. Antistatic vials that will stay fluid and keep the bubble together from -20°C to +50°C - the more you're willing to invest, the flatter the curve in the vials. Precision stuff! Have a look at the Libella 2000 or the MST 180 for some really serious stuff.
Like factory tours & seeing the inner working of how things are made.....stuff we use daily & really don’t think what it actually “takes” to make those tools. Pretty cool 😎
Cheers✌🏼
Why does no level company make one with a horizontal vial at the very end? Say you're on a ladder working alone and you need to transfer a point from a distance. From your vantage point you can't see the center vial. I'm talking about using an 8' level.
move the ladder
@@micahlecourias Not always possible
If I were you and this is something you encounter quite often, I'd get an aluminum straight edge and a shorter high precision level, so you can put/tape it on the end, where you need it. Done it several times. The Hultafors Libella2000 is very suitable for this, although it might not be widely available in your neck of the woods. It should be possible to find another brand though. As mentioned in the video, setting of the vial is essential, as well as the radius on the inside of the vial - the shallower and more accurate the radius, the more accurate the level will be.
@@martinpoulsen6564 or!... You could just make them have the extra vial. Lol
@@shindanu you could, but it'd still be fixed then. A separate level goes on whereever is suited for the particular situation.
hope you enjoyed your trip !!! best greetings from Germany :)
Had a great time
Returned the LAX300G for repair after it wouldn’t calibrate.
They covered all shipping and when it returned the enclosed letter read, “We guarantee any our products for life.” Amazing.
Note - the lasers is assembled in China. 😉
There you go
I used a long Stabila level to "level" the working table of my cnc router over the absolutely not planar floor of my lab.
I'm quite satisfied of the result. I was below 0.3 mm of planarity error.
All levels are definitely not the same ... Stabila are the best ...nice vid as always
All Stabilas are not the same either... There are other ones available out there for top$ to match.
Thanks for talking me in to spending the extra money!.lol
Straightline tiling australia .recommends checking any levels when perchising new .by find a level surface
mark the end then spin it to opersite ends & check.i have been caught one to many times
Awesome experience!
The level he picked up at the start of the video, i still use one that's likely its sister. Indeed, quality is above norm.
I appreciate the this old house music! Great video Kyle
Great video Kyle
This episode in on another level
That was very interesting! I wouldn’t use anything else!
Dropped mine from the 5th floor still perfectly level 💪🏼
This video was on another level
I have probably set more than a hundred thousand square feet of ceramic tile, porcelain, travertine, and granite using Stabila levels. They are by far the very best.
They are a total class act !
Got me a 4’ and a 2’ hanging off the gun rack in the back window of the truck. Wicked good levels
Great level of detail,haha.
For some reason, tools day reminded me of Tool Time!
Crick wooden levels are my favorite with stabila box beam level. Being my second choice
There is nothing wrong with promoting a product you really stand by. Every guy has his favourite brand of tools for specific tasks.
Travelling not only expands your view but also teaches you that there are proud craftsmen all around the world.
So true
Accuracy aside. My local tool shop had a bent 6ft stabile laying in the warranty return pile. Was clear the guy used it as a baseball bat but wanted a free one. It was so old they had to call Germany to look up in there old records from the companies original owners to see if it was even there’s. As soon as they found it in there old Catalogue they gave him a new one no questions asked. I was impressed.
..."to see if it was even THEIRS". Their level...is over...there...---->....there's the level.
they're annoyed with your abuse of Engleesh.
Broooooo. That would seriously be so amazing if someone got a level that wasn’t inspected properly and there was a spider inside. I would be so stoked!!!!!! It would be worth a lot more definitely one of a kind
Little late coming across this but so interesting
Do you guys have 'Sola' levels in the states? I like Sola because they feel heavy duty and reading the bubble is a lot easier than on Stabila.
I used a level to put up my kitchen cabinets, and after I was done, it looked odd, but the level said it was good. Then I flipped the level around and realized that it was off by 1.5 inches over 10 feet. I discarded it right away, and check levels when I get them now.
This channel.show all the good tools ive done 100s of metal rofs and dident know dewalt made a batery screw gun tell you we started using umpact guns and when we first went to batery power ill nedd to buy a screw gun
What's your thoughts about stabila tape measure tools? I have the fatmax 5m and I like it but it's very heavy.
Kyle, I watched the Perkins Brothers Builders video on them trying to get their 4ft Stabila repaired/replaced because one of the vials broke. Stabila denied them because they said the level was bent. If this level was bent it was only bent by a couple thousandths of an inch. I was so disappointed when I saw it.
It's all good having the vial set to .5mm /m but if the level bends, it's game over. Just today I checked a work mates 4' stabila and it was out 5mm. I prefer Stanley fatmax because the reinforcement around the middle vial, which is usually a weak spot on levels.
Dude have you seen the inside of a Stanley?? I have pics... that stabila doesn’t get bent unless it’s misused
i agree i am a uk brickie i only use stabila for decades
The level of detail in a level.
I have a heavy-duty Stabila level 1800mm and the level bubble and 1 of the plumb bubbles is out. Is it possible to calibrate them as it is a £100 level that i have had for building work for 10 years I used the strait edge now as that's all it's good for, for plasterboarding there is no bends in the body but the bubble is out
My friend is buyer for oldest hardware store in Oregon we build thing an he was always talking stabila levels so I got the set of three. This is what I've found to dislike about the famous yellow levels. I have several levels that horizontal bubble just touches the black level index marks! But stabila level's bubble sits in center of black index marks but there is a space between the bubble on each side of the bubble an mark. That makes me have to center for level by eye, not by the bubbles touching inside both index marks! Thanks, Tim
Awesome!
Kyle, can you do a Stabila 600 video on how electricians use it for electrical boxes, recess lighting using the halo thin led 6", etc?
My dad had one of the wooden ones, I believe it was walnut. Unfortunately, as he got older he neglected his tools and it was ruined.
do you think the digital version is better? I am thinking of just going for the one without.
Cool stuff
Are they manufacturing the Red, Green and Grey levels for other companies, I have never seen these Stabila colours, I cannot find reference to them anywhere, I want a Green Stabila ")
WoW this is cool :-)
great tool!
I have an old empire made in usa level still after 25 years reads 100 % I have stabila aswell and they are excellent
I've been a contractor for 26 years and just 2 years ago decided to drop a good bit of money for a set of these also the digital version and if you do any type work that requires a level BUY these levels you wont have a single regret if anything the problem with repeat customers is you'll most likely never need to buy another one these things are almost bullet proof
I figure you get one great dog , one love of your life and one good level. Stabili is my second good level. Actually two. The jammer set.
haha
So is their "level" of detail also square, or is that next level detail?
Anyone know how the Stabila 7- 12 foot plate level compares to thre new Milwaukee 78" - 12 foot plate level??
Wow very cool indeed
My first levels were stabila over twenty years ago and they have been abused over the years and still remain true. The end caps are all broken though.
The electronics module stopped working on my 196-2E and Stabila wanted a huge sum to replace it mostly because they did not have any more of the older modules so beware of the electronics which is nice while it works!
Cricks are my favorite quite nice levels
I love my Stabila Levels (Tile & Stone work), the only complaint is, most US dealers don't want to honor Stabilas lifetime warranty, telling me my trade is too abusive or some other BS. I've purchased two sets in over 25 years, so warranty or not, I'm still a satisfied customer.
I had an issue too. So I just put it on the salesman's desk and grabbed a new one off the shelf. It's why I bought it at our lumber yard is for the service. After lumber yard contacted the stabila rep it was no big deal. Lumber yard was lazy, stabila was easy. Next one is going straight to stabila rep at the trade show.
Love Stabila levels. In fact stabila is the only level we use . I tried to return a 6 foot level once that wasn’t reading true and my stabila level sales person told me not to bother . To be able to utilize the stabila warranty your level has to be in darn new perfect condition He has been a stabila levels seller for years and had only seen one accept back . I remember him asking me how long I had the level to which I replied 10 years and his reply was “ you got your moneys worth”. So the warranty is pretty much non existent.
The best money can buy. Great pry bar lol
