      Hey Kipkay, I don't know too much about electronics but for the version that stays on, cant you just use a silicone controlled rectifier or SCR? With one of those in the circuit with the gate being the photoresister the beam being broken will set it off and keep it off. I believe that this will save space as well so why dont you use it?

      The downfall of your website is that people who are NOT subscribers cannot just go in and order a kit. Your missing out on tons of orders because of that. I personally hate subscription services..I think they are all bullshit, but I would buy a few kits from you for sure. Fix that and you have a new customer with zero money towards customer acquisition.

      sounds like a challenge, and yeah, I have enough small arms here to sacrifice one for the sake of science. I still am not a fan of jail time. It'd be a simple solenoid trigger instead of a speaker. And I'd have to anchor it down via some welding and such.

      You know well that's a god damn lie. The person that made the 3D printed gun never got arrested. They can't arrest you because you made your own gun. If that was true, all the gunsmith that had made their own gun and showed it off online would be in jail.

    • @walperstyle
      @walperstyle 10 лет назад

      In Canada if we have a barrel length of under 4 inches its illegal. I lose my gun license and maybe face jail time. If I did build something like this in my garage with a larger length barrel, such as my 10 gauge, I'd have to go to a certified range to test it out. Even so, its illegal. Printing an AR15 isn't illegal unless you print them to sell them in the US, but all AR15/M4 lowers are Restricted in Canada. I am to have mine locked away at all times, in a case, with a lock on the gun itself, ammo separate, and only allowed to bring it out to clean, and to fire at authorized ranges. ...now you have the facts.

    This is cool and all, but a much better and cheaper solution to get this to stay on, is to use an SCR (Silicon-Controlled Rectifier) as one way analog , toggle switch. SCR's are PNPN or NPNP devices really simple and easy to work with. I built a project using a laser tripwire, and it's a nifty little thing. Cheers!

  • @itube612
    @itube612 9 лет назад

    this is really cool. I love the idea, maybe I'll use it for my garage, but I'll need a different alarm, cause I often don't hear when I'm using power tools. Anyway, thanks for an awesome concept.

  • @Prence
    @Prence 10 лет назад +2

    This could be made better if you got a wireless audio transmitter so that you wouldn't have to have it sitting near your stereo. Maybe even hook it to your wifi router so that it could notify you over the internet that it's been tripped. Or you could go the silent rout and hook it to a cheap camera that takes a photo of the person that trips it. Could even set it up where it sends the photo to your cell phone when you aren't home.

    • @JackLee123
      @JackLee123 10 лет назад

      kill1 The thing is, if there was an intruder that tripped the alarm, they would probably kick the shit out of it. and its not really going to stop someone cause it probably isnt even that loud.

    • @kill1
      @kill1 10 лет назад

      Thats if you leave the set up as is and in a place they can find it. And again with the same logic as that what is to stop them from smashing the $500 system as well?? its right next to the door where they can find it. the fact that its sounded an alarm and they dont want to be caught. if you are trying to be quiet and not let anyone know you are robbing a place an alarm is a very bad thing. I have 6 $2 100 dB window alarms throughout the house that has stop 3 attempted break ins already.Just replace the crap speaker with a cheap 120 dB one and you are set to fuck up some ear drums and let people in your neighborhood know something isnt right.

    Amazing project Kip, but for your next variation (or a future separate project) you can use some cheap camera hooked up to the laser tripwire so when it is activated, the camera will take either multiple pictures or even a video! Why don't you try that, it doesn't seem to be that hard...

  • @gilsthefish
    @gilsthefish 10 лет назад +1

    Instead of an ardwino to keep it on just put a relay and wire it so once activated it's always on and with a momentary off button as a reset.

    Using this I've been able to make an alarm for me and my whole family. First my phone is put on a slanted board which when it vibrates should slide down. When it trips the laser a high pitched noise is emitted. Also it doubles as a safety tripwire because it is all mounted by my door.

    Cool. But the arduino is a bit overkill just to make the alarm stay on. That's also a bit of a cop-out to just say "use an arduino". Instead use a latching circuit (S/R Latch... that's much more elegant. You can even make one from a 555, which fits right in your design.

    I want to someday build my own house security system. It would be so much fun and hook everything upto a small server. When something break's it send's a signal to the server which could in turn text my phone and even send a few photos or video feed.
    It would be interesting to make some kind of window magnet thing that goes off when you open the window.

    • @Volvary
      @Volvary 10 лет назад

      For the window thing, you could use a magnetic switch and place it a few inches about the resting position of the magnet on the window. Then hook that switch through a second switch controlled by the server(On/OFF of the security system) and power that up so that if both switch are closed (The magnet is near the magnetic switch AND the protection is up) the server receives a signal and starts whatever action you want to relate to it.

    I know enough about soldering to feel confident actually making it, but I don't know anything about schematics or even circuitry to even consider making this. Plus it's useless if it turns off when the beam is back on the receiver.
    Please reply, Kip!
