I remember being at this show. I was a senior in high school and my girlfriend at the time had just begun attending NYU. I came to visit her and we went to the show. I was in the midst of pretty terrible drug addiction and our relationship was in disrepair. We left around the time Alex finished this song. I vividly remember that night and i feel like this version of the song really perfectly encapsulates that time in my life. I’ve been sober for over 5 years now and me and my ex are cool. But I’m glad this video exists because as hard as that time in my life was, there was also something beautiful about it.
This song seems to point towards a relationship strained by drug use. As with many of his song’s the title word appears once in the middle of the song at the center of a transition from flying/togetherness and weight and being alone w/out moving.
When alex rocks back and forth you know it's good
when he waddles
