Dude. Sorry for calling you dude... I've been dreaming of playing this ever since I first heard it ('70 something). You are the first source for this song that actually makes me believe it is possible! Thank you for being so thorough and slow! Some were born rock thousands in an arena, some were born to dream about it (like me), some were born to be gifted enough to replicate perfection and share it to dreamers like me. I'll check your other stuff out, but for now you have hit the mark! Thank you so much for sharing your talent!!!!!!!!
When I was in high school , I heard this song for the first time. Imagining how amazing it would be to be able to play such a beautiful song , (or any song) , I assumed it would never be possible for me. It's 36 years later now , and because of you , I can now play this song like a pro. Thank you for sharing this.
One of the 1st songs I learned when I started finger picking! Whenever I feel like I've hit a brickwall on guitar I tune to C6 and it makes me feel like a guitarist again. But a beautiful melody.
I drove past the route to Bron-Yr-Aur the other day as it's quite close to my house and I realised I'd never gotten round to learning it, great lesson as usual!
Hey Carl! Great breakdown of the most beautiful piece Pagey ever wrote. I did not know what alternate or chord open strings tunings for a few years as a beginner around 1979-1982, so I tried to figure it out with the basic EADGBE 440 tuning. Some parts were possible and others just did not make sense and I was stuck. Around 1984 I knew and I went right to Bron-y-Aur and figured it out. A couple small parts were nagging me so I just played thru it. After watching you, I am pissed at myself for the lack of patience I had as a young teen, cuz I now see it was right there in my face the whole time. You ROCK Carl ! I think we are the same age, and we both did the old "play, stop, rewind repeat!" stuff in the 80`s with no tab or anyone to guide you. Teachers sucked back then. The 2 guys I tried cuz they came by thru friends who claimed they were great. Not so much. Theory and making me learn "Rebel Rebel" by Bowie ....that type of stuff. Sorry for the long comment but that you for a great service to others Carl.
When I was 13 in 1977 and just learning this was a "holy grail" song to me and my buddies (along with songs like Mood For a Day, Rain Song, etc). If you were lucky a dude down the street who could play or watching some cover band at a party up close was the only way to get tips on tough songs. Today youtube lessons have blown it all apart, and its awesome. A few years ago I decided to truly learn my "bucket list songs" (instead of faking them) and its been great. Thanks, Carl, for an excellent tutorial. And I didnt even need to turn you on to a quarter lid for showing me!
I speak welsh, (think as the alphabet as being Ah, Beh, Keh, Deh, Eh, Fu, etc)How it's pronounced is Bron = B -on- [brrr on] -- Yr {like how you say um but drop the 'm' and add a -- Aur = ah( ee ... so > Brrr-on// errr //Ah-eer
Once I learned the correct tuning for this song(back in H.S.) from my teacher/friend Mike, I was astonished at how easy it was to play. When I first heard it, I imagined that it would be incredibly difficult to learn. I tried to play it in standard tuning, and got my fingers twisted like a pretzel. A few years later I met Mike, and he showed me the tuning and we took it from there. Within a week I was playing it non-stop, it is so beautiful. I cannot imagine what it would have been like with You Tube when I learned to play! You young people are lucky, but , us oplder players from the 80`s learned by ear and trial and error. I believe that is a vital part of learning to play. Your Ear!!! Feel the groove and hear it. It sure takes longer , but when you nail something, man what a feeling of accomplishment.
I have learnt this thanks to you Carl and I hope I am gonna still play this when I am 60 with my wife/friends somewhere in the mountains all together. Love you Carl
Very clear, no-nonsense instruction. I remember picking this song up on the guitar during a summer holiday in France when I was eighteen, which was 28 years ago. I decided to try my hand at it again yesterday but discovered that (a) I had forgotten which tuning to use and (b) I had zero muscle memory for this song, probably because I didn't play it for long since my guitar needed to be in standard tuning shortly afterwards. This video helped get me quickly back on track. Thanks so much!
I first played my version one of this in standard tuning when I was a kid obsessed with it. I first heard it while watching the Song Remains the Same movie. The scene is; the band leaves their private jet and walk to the limo on the tarmac. Jimmy is filmed ducking into the limo as the instrumental begins. I had several iterations of Bron-yr-Aur in standard for many years, then I figured out he was in an alternate tuning. I first began messing with drop D which led me to other tunings including this one. I can now play this note for note and end up close to 'on time' on the stop watch. I went to a studio last year and recorded it. Two movie producers are using my studio version in their films for free. In that same inspirational tuning I created another instrumental last year and recorded it as well. Now both songs are being used in the films. In 2010 I created two smart phone apps for Jason Bonham's lead singer in his cover band JBLZE. Got back stage a dozen times, met Jason twice and once in a while we communicate in social media. At the university where I built those apps, we were offered a $100 award to make a video about the program plan we were in. I filmed myself playing Bron-yr-Aur on my acoustic with a scroll on the bottom speaking to the bacheloreat I was earning. I won. It's somewhere on RUclips and I sent it to JBLZE where I had applied to be lead singer James' guitar tech. They liked it too. In 2008 I befriended a youtuber musician back when we could still message privately, and told him his covers of the Beatles and Zeppelin were uncanny and that he would be a famous singer. Within a year he started the Virtual Zeppelin Band where none of the players ever met in person yet the Japanese producer/lead guitarist splices and split screened 5 Zep covers, their very best cover is 10 Years Gone. Turns out Jason was watching those VZ videos too. He secretly hired my RUclips musician singer friend to fly to Florida to try out for Jason's new band and got the gig. But he couldn't tell me. Sworn to secrecy. Then one day I bought tickets to see Jason and saw my friend on stage singing Zeppelin tunes with Jason. Mind blown. That band began in 2010 and is still touring today. When John passed in 1980, Zep cancelled 30 shows and broke up. In 2007 Jason played in place of his dad at the 02 Arena in London and was inaugurated as the 5th member of Led Zeppelin and by 2010 had the approval of his dad's old friends to go for it. JBLZE completed those 30 canceled shows and more, in honor of his father John.
That's cool, man. I used to play a sort of version of Bron Yr Aur on the piano when I was younger. It's one of my favourite all time compositions. Nothing spectacular, but I was happy last night when I started messing with this that I remembered that I did play it in the key of C. So your friend was sworn to secrecy. Probably more than sworn. It was probably an official non disclosure agreement. And people wonder why stories about Boleskine House or the secret studio work Jimmy Page may have done is not discussed. Not to mention Beatle Bill. Cheers!
When it comes to the final sequence of the tune, you can play 7-5-0-0 on EACH group of 4 strings instead of playing 5-5-0-0 (19:14) on the D-G-B-E strings (standard tuning name). I can't tell which version is "right", both sounding good to my ears. Anyway, I always wanted to play this correctly, so thanks a lot for this lesson !
Tuned my guitar the other day to open C6 to learn another song (Talk by Phish), wanted to learn more songs in that tuning, now I’ve learned two of my favorite Led Zep songs (this one and Friends) in the same week. Thanks, Carl!
I can't even begin to give enough thanks for this amazing tutorial. I have to play this for a wedding this weekend and I waited til the last minute to learn this: you saved me entirely! This is so much fun to play and your lesson was absolutely perfect, in my very humble opinion. Thank you so much again!
Carl, thank you for all your great lessons, this is the forth piece Ive learned from your videos. You are, without a doubt, the best video instructor I've seen. The best music portrayed in a detailed, accurate way. I've been playing for decades but still learning, your vids allow me to pick up a new song quickly and I know its accurate.
You do an Outstanding job of doing what ya do. This song has great meaning for me. To hear it coming from my fingers thanks to you means more than words can say. You know that rush of which I speak. It’s why we play. Thank You! 🤙🤙
Great display, now I have a great finger picking song. N most people don't know who Zeppelin is or was . (so now I can play this song). Which few people know now,.. so thanks for the tutorial
One beautifully taught lesson my friend. Your approach and detail are unparalleled amongst some superb YT tutor rivals. You have many fans here in England.
I watch all of your videos but I'm afraid some of this is played differently by Mr. Page. You should try using your thumb for that cool slide part. I find it easier and that's how Page played it. Also the initial slide on the A string is actually three notes, open A then the slide from the second fret to the third fret. (so three quick notes.)
Great song, great lesson. Does anyone here heard Swan Song, a fantastic demo song that never made a Zepp album( should have been also on PG album)..Cheers Zepp fans out there!!
Every other version on YT is slower than Page's. I wonder what he was on, and/or what drove him. You can't standardize what Jimmy played in '74. I can't imagine he planned hammer-ons and slides precisely for the Physical Graffiti rendition. It had to be one of those flow things, where you have a lot of skill under the belt, and are excited about a new tune, and rip it up in the studio. The clipped notes make for a whole different descending arpeggio. We all would tend to play it smoother. Very good lesson. If you get the 2 main sections and outro down, you've got the song.
thank you so much for posting this - it took a few months but I've got this song down now and I love to play it. I just wish I knew more songs than this and "Friends" in this tuning
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I am obsessed with this song and need to do this one next for my channel. Your lessons are great and save me a ton of time figuring songs out :)
Ace lesson...thanks a lot. I was up and playing the song after watching the video...Robert Plant pronounces the cottage Bron-Yr-Aur in Wales where they worked on those tracks as Bronee..Ror.
I really like your teaching style. I have just learned the Led Zeppelin song "Bron-Yr- Aur" with your help. The song sounds just like it does on the album. You must have a great ear! I wanted to know if you have a lesson for the song "Little Martha" by the Allman Brothers band. If not, this would be a great song to add to your list. I have subscribed to your RUclips channel and am looking forward to learning some new songs from you!! Thanks Jack
One of the most beautiful songs ever composed as long as the rain song. Thank God for alternate tunings
Learn English
@@keremstoyshop8734 You'll find it's Welsh!
Thank you for this comment, I've never heard of The Rain Song before this, now I'm absolutely obsessed with it :)
And yet we teach in music specific tunings as stone set maffuckas i love messing with tuning but hate writing in a tuning you just made then you cant replay the somg cause you forgot what you had it at and ya gotta ear it out
Agreed without a doubt! Timeless, Genius, Endless Masterpiece! Good Call! (On Both songs as well) 👏🏼👏🏼
The most beautiful acoustic melody of all time, probably the soundtrack to heaven
The " Best " acoustic song I've ever heard . . 🪕 🎸

Fucking great!.

I’m so happy this piece of music exists, it’s like happiness being poured into your ears.
Love this description!!!
I like that . . Kinda . . Shakespearean . . 🎵 🎶

Me and my mate camped on yhe 'hill of gold' overlooking the house, playing some zeppelin on the guitars with the fire going. Beautiful song
NO WAY YOU MADE THIS IVE ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN THIS THANK YOU MUCH MAN
It's the same tuning that Friends is played in.

I do feel lucky. Thanks for Sharing your story. I like reading stories like these. You are also lucky to have experience them during their time.

Breech 123. It would be interesting if you published your version in standard tuning. Tmb anyone who has a score and can piblish.
When it comes to the final sequence of the tune, you can play 7-5-0-0 on EACH group of 4 strings instead of playing 5-5-0-0 (19:14) on the D-G-B-E strings (standard tuning name). This song simply touches my soul like nothing else! Jimmy Page is a master and my #1 guitar idol.
Carl, youre cool. I always forget to type that. And thanks for your tutorial. I have bad concentrtion, but your vids work the best. Peace.

Brilliant tuning, Jimmy. You are a master.

An absolutely perfect and detailed breakdown of this amazing piece. Another stellar effort Carl, thanks.
Great lesson, you are a great teacher…I’d drop that bass ‘E’ a tiny bit though.

This is such a good tutorial, from the production to the playing. I'm actually getting somewhere with this - thanks!
Thank you very much!!
As a kid I always tried to master these songs but very difficult. You really made it easy for me. Now im playing like Jimmy! Thanks so much!

What an amazing tutorial, thank you! Love the 3 camera angles. Very, very clear, and I'm most grateful. Thank you!
Great video format with the 3 screen split. I am not by any stretch a guitar whiz, but this format was easy for me to follow along. Great work.
I'm guessing you don't need me to send it to you any longer?
Love this song. Thanks so much for putting together this lesson. You are the best there is.
Thank you for teaching me this song. Excellent tutorial.

The same tuning as in 'Friends'
Beautiful,creative tuning
Very fun to play in..
With Carl teaching, it takes longer to learn to pronounce it than it does to learn to play it.
Ace lesson...thanks a lot. I was up and playing the song after watching the video...Robert Plant pronounces the cottage Bron-Yr-Aur in Wales where they worked on those tracks as Bronee..Ror.
Dude! Seriously, this was so easy to learn. Thank you for this video.
Thank you very much for this lesson. Explained very well , and easy to follow
What a beautiful song.
This is an excellent lesson! Thanks.
Beautiful music. Is it better I learn it using right ring finger as it's more natural for me as I was tought classical guitar 3 decades ago? 🇬🇧🏴
Great lesson Carl, enjoyed learning and playing this awesome tune.
Couldn't have been presented any better.
Thanks!
Your excellent detail of each note is very much appreciated. Jimmy would be pleased!
old video... it's still appreciated... very nice man =) ty
I've been mistakenly playing this in standard tuning for 40 years. Thanks for the lesson!
At 09:15, you don't have to take your finger off the e string because you aren't hitting it, right?
OMG THANK YOU!!! I can finally play that song because of you!
Thanks so much for your teaching. This was one I really wanted to learn. I'd love to learn more acutsic instrumentals. thanks againg

Great lesson,, you are the best at this stuff .
excellent walk through, well done!
very pleasant and precise/ C6 tuning associated with country Steel, e.g, Don Helms/Hank Williams classics. Thanks
Thanks
Jack
Great lesson. Sounds like the real thing
