  • The Massey Harris Pony was produced from 1947 to 1957 and was the smallest model the company built. It has a 4 cylinder gasoline Continental engine which could do 10 hp on the drawbar and 11hp on the belt. Paul and Rose share the story of their 1952 Massey Harris Pony and how they turned their passion for classic tractors into a full time restoration business.Visit classictractors... today to learn more about Classic Tractor Fever!

my Dad worked for Massey-Harris in Brantford, Ontario in 1947 and was part of the Pony design team, he had just graduated in 1947 from the University of Saskatchewan, was 22, they unveiled the Pony at a plowing match in Burlington, Ontario, have a photo with all the management team and engineering group including the President of Massey-Harris, my Dad was there as he was experienced in plowing and setting things up.

For 10 years my family used a small Massey-Harris Pony tractor on our small farm in Denmark.
It had a SIMCA Aronde 8 engine, three speed gearbox and hand operated lift for a 12'' Fraugde plow, a 9 toothed stub cultivator and a two-row beet cleaner.
On the draw bar we pulled a four rubber wheeled farm wagon and various other horse-drawn farm tools. We could also mount a small box on the draw-bar on which there could be transported three 40 litters milk bins.
From the age of 12 to 17 I have spent many hours in the seat on it to harrow and plow our fields :-)

Beautiful restoration. My dad owned a Pony in the 1960's and it was a very reliable and useful workhorse.

Yes, Rose does remind me of Sally Field from Smokey and the Bandit. In looks and accent. When I was growing up on a farm in Iowa, we had a neighbor that had a Massey Harris Pony. His had a small Massey Harris manure loader on it. He used it to clean out his dairy barn. That was in the days before skid-steer loaders. This neighbor also had a Massey Harris 44. He loved them both. Massey Harris's were not common in our area, but the few people that had them, loved them.

My dada pony had two plows. one left and one right.
He also has cultivator attachment. and a drag harrow.
One of my bros did his best to blow the engine with a string to the carb to over ride the governor.
I don't remember when it was sold off.
The pony replace a David Bradly walk behind tractor
THe machinery helped feed us for many years.

My grandfather bought the first Massey Harris tractor sold at the dealership in Lowell Michigan, a 1947 Pony with a plow, cultivator and hay mower. Before that they used horses and a doodlebug made out of a 1936 Chevrolet truck.

    I love this !
The Pony was manufactured in my hometown of Woodstock Ontario Canada. As a young boy growning up in dairy farming country I was obsessed with tractors mostly a nice Massey "30" that I got to drive.
    Thanks for the memory. www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/004/7/0/4700-massey-harris-pony-11.html
