  • What is Hatha Yoga? This talk explores the question by unraveling the meaning of the Ashtanga Invocation and the image of Patanjali, the mythic author of the Yoga Sutras. It describes Hatha Yoga as an embodied meditation, which involves sustaining the delicate balance of prana and apana.
This is the first of four talks in prelude to my four season immersion in yoga philosophy, Into the Depths. The next round of the course begins May 28. Learn more here:

I find yoga mythology inspiring as it is now beginning to take presence during my hatha yoga practice. Thank you for all of your talks and tuitions.

Rhapsodize :-) I love how you’re able to use these words we all know but we really never tap into that vocabulary bank and incorporate these in our daily interactions. You have the capacity and creativity to do that. Always enjoying your storytelling. Thanks Ty

Thank you Ty for your immense generosity in sharing these talks. This one in particular has moved me. I'm curious about the story of burning of sati. Because I do not quite understand what happens when creative energy is supposed to flow but it doesn't. The part of the video that you talk about "that in ritual context shesha literally refers to the charred remains of the sacrificial objects, what's left over after you make the sacrificial offering that agni did not accept" what does it mean. What happens then with all those sacrificial objects that did not burn clearly. Again, thank you very much.
