When you don't push, your muscles relax, then it makes it easier for the baby to come out because to opens up, so it won't hurt much.

Test pushing during labor and during contractions can actually absorb pain and help you ride them out easier.. that was my experience with my second baby.. my midwives thought I was at ten when I was probably more at 6 or 7 .. cervix can be super thin and feel like it’s not there when it really is .. my current midwife made the same mistake in another labor and knows now how that can be mistaken..
That being said I knew my body wasn’t ready so I didn’t go into that level of pushing but test pushing during contractions really helped with pain management..

If the baby's head is not engaged correctly, or in the position to give birth. Then you should not push because it will cause cervical swelling which makes it harder for the baby to pass through the cervix
