For the life of me, I cannot figure out how it's possible that I'm just discovering this gentleman and his music here in 2023... Damn this rock I've been living under. Well, better late than never as they say!
The man is simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. He is not just an outstanding musician, he is truly good people. I took my 1957 Gibson to a concert (VIP) passes. He hung out with the crow, had drinks, joked around and simply was one of us. In the end, he not only signed my guitar, but played it. It was the night of my life. His lyrics tell stories, family stories, relationship stories...The man is an open book with his life through his music....just plain as real as it gets. He's truly an inspiration.
About 15 years ago I was at my local library that provided CDs you could borrow. I wanted to listen to musicians I wasn't familiar with and Keb Mo was one I took home, listened to and then bought many additional ones of my own. Saw him at the EXPN music festival many years ago and as many times as possible; last time in Greenville, South Carolina in 2023. Always a total joy to hear!
first song I ever heard by Keb was "Better Man"....pulled me right up out a depression that had lasted for months...music IS magic...Keb Mo is one of a kind...accept no substitutes...;)
in 1997 to 1999, I was very fortunate to have lived on the beautiful island of Guam in the western Pacific. Whilst there, I heard this song being played on one of the many radio stations, and this song takes me back.....
Well I'm 36 years old and I completely agree with what you just said! Keb Mo in general is a Top 5 for me. But this is one of my favorite songs from him as well. Smooth!
I was leaving a Delbert McClinton concert, years ago, Keb Mo was sitting outside at he club next door asking people to come in and hear his music, I talked to him a little while, decided it was too late.........................................................didn't go,saw him on House of Blues about a week later, and rued my decision!!! hope I get another chance here in Houston. Barry
This song STILL kicks ass! I learnt this song 25 years ago, so that I could play drums and sing goodbye to a good friend of mine. Brought the house down! Thanks Keb!
Love this song by my childhood/church friend Kevin. My dad was the founder and pastor of the "Double Rock Baptist Church" that he mentions in the song, and I'm so glad he memorialized the church as part of his upbringing in our home town of Compton.
As a classmate and PK in a different ⛪ in the community, I relate too. I recognize those names and mothers mentioned in the lyrics. One of the most resonating aspects of this work is a magnificent musical 🎸 refutation of the novelist Tom Wolfe. Fabulous lyrics and that refrain is unforgettable🎶

Straight up, good feeling song. We need so much more of them
Lyrics-
Daddy came around every once in a while
But momma, she was there all the time
And summertime in Compton was not like TV
But we were right there where we needed to be
And the Thurmond Boys on Peach Street with only their dad
So proud of themselves and that old Pontiac they had
And Miss Brooks, her Bible and her three little boys
At the Double Rock Baptist Church makin' a joyful noise
There's more than one way home
Ain't no right way, ain't no wrong
And whatever road you might be on
You find your own way 'cause there's more than one way home
Got me a job at the grocery store
Workin' weekdays after school from 5 to 9
And Tommy, John and Charlie were the neighborhood stars
With their midsize homes and their big fancy cars
And when the eagle flied on Friday I'd go out to play
Wastin' time with Otis out on the dock of the bay
And my ticket to adventure was a ride on the bus
Different places, different faces but they were just like us
Well, there's more than one way home
Ain't no right way, ain't no wrong
And whatever road you might be on
You find your own way 'cause there's more than one way home
Well, there's more than one way home
Ain't no right way, ain't no wrong
Whatever road you might be on
You find your own way 'cause there's more than one way home
There's more than one way home
And there ain't no right way, ain't no wrong
Whatever road you might be on
You find your own way 'cause there's more than one way home
More than one way home
Ain't no right way, no wrong
Whatever road you might be on
You find your own way 'cause there's more than one way home
