Works great ruclips.net/user/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.

      Im thinking about trying this out. Have you noticed any unusual wear on your saw because of cutting steel with it? Any gouges in the table or steel dust packed up in the guard? I would like to give this a try but im curious to know if i can use it in my nice cordless that i use as my primary go-to saw or if i should relegate an old backup saw for cutting steel.

    • @jasonprox700
      @jasonprox700 4 года назад

      Mark Doumert, nothing unusual. I do have a plastic chute for the dust that does start to get hot on long and thick cuts. I run this on a spare saw that I’ve never been happy with anyway, so if it dies, so be it. So far everything’s been working great!

    As someone who steel frames for a living. I believe I have the right experience to help you with this blade. Yes it will cut heavy steal. However DO NOT use on light gauge studs and track. These blades hate vibration of any kind. There fantastic on heavier gauge metals. But, they do not like the returns and flanges on light gauge metals. I do not recommend using it on 14 gauge or thinner.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      @@philsla if your reffering to like 16 ga decking, or that matel roof material then, then the answer is yes. I've used it to rip those type materials. But cross cut it worked fine however the blade didn't have enough depth of cut to make it through the materials. I'm sure it will do fine on roof top tin though.

      I’ve used them on light gauge studs quite successfully for years. You just have to support your work better so that it doesn’t vibrate. You also I have to avoid letting the blade get pinched by your material. Pinching the blade will knock your teeth off quite quickly.

    This blade changed the game for me as a Framer. I started my career as a traditional carpenter, first framing houses doing peice work, then framing and general construction on commercial projects when I joined the Union. Work for “Framers” eventually became extremely scarce and most guys I worked with, made the choice to do concrete form work since there was always a demand. I however, hate the monotony of concrete work, so I opted to switch to metal framing and drywall. I was so used to grabbing for my skill-saw to make cuts, and had to get used to always cutting on chop saws. This is fine but there a pain in the ass to carry and take time setup then move and setup again multiple times a day. This blade allowed me to use a skillsaw again to make all my cuts, and it’s made my productivity better and my job so much easier. Thank you DIABLO.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      Great story! This is an amazing blade that I always keep ready to go in my circ saw. It's quick and easy to do some metal cutting.

    • @frankvadnais3536
      @frankvadnais3536 3 года назад +1

      The company I work for does a lot of metal framing. The circular saw we prefer is a Milwaukee 6370-21. This saw is made for cutting metal. It contains the chips much better than a regular circular saw and therefore is much safer. We have cut anything between 25 gauge studs all the way up to half inch steel.
      If you do a lot of metal framing you should look into it.

  • @melgross
    @melgross 4 года назад +5

    I have one for my 14” saw. It works very well. I’ve made a lot of cuts with it. Even cutting some aluminum sometimes because I was too lazy to change the blade for one or two cuts, and then change it back again. But I don’t recommend that on a regular basis because the tooth shape captures the sticky aluminum, and then you have to spend time cleaning it off each tooth.
    I was wary about buying it at first because it costs half of what an Evolution or Fein stainless blade costs, which is around $135 for the 14” size.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 года назад

      I didn't realize that aluminum does that. Thanks for posting.

    • @melgross
      @melgross 4 года назад +3

      markthomasbuilder it’s the same problem for my mills and lathes. Aluminum is sticky. It smears and almost brazes itself to the metal. Aluminum cutting tools have a tooth shape that flings the metal off before it builds up, though some thin cutting fluid is still a good idea. Even some WD-40 works to prevent it from sticking.

    That thing cuts that 3/8 plate as fast as my skillsaw cuts 3/4 plywood. I've been looking at chop saws and possible blades to put in my miter saw 10", but the blades are too expensive for experimental use, lol and a new chopsaw is 242 dollars, so I'm buying that blade. because I know if you clamp a straight edge and hold the base of a skillsaw against it, you can make some long perfect cuts on ply wood, so yeah I'm pretty sure I can do what I want with a skill saw with that blade. Thanks for making this video, you just helped figure out how I'm going to go about cutting steel for now at least.

    This saw blade as you see if you are not perfectly running the saw blade straight which with these blade are hard to control with a power saw can wear one side more that the other. Which after that happens, will pull to the saw blade to the sharper side. Also if the blades aren’t tensioned properly, which can happen quite a lot with mass production. The blades can collapse which create a wobble.

    I've heard that you're not supposed to cut steel (angle iron) with a miter saw or a circular saw even with a TCT (tungsten carbide tip) saw because the RPM (3000 - 5000) is too fast and generates too much heat for steel. But a cold cut chop saw spins slower around 900-1500 RPM, so that's why it's the proper tool to use for cutting steel. Is this true?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Год назад

      I've been to a few events where the Diablo company showed their blades in a circular saw, so I'm sure they would be using them in tools rated for their blades. Their medium steel blade is rated for up to 5,800 rpms.

      From what I’ve read elsewhere, it really depends on the number of teeth and their shape.
      I *think* that it’s easier to make a metal cutting blade if it runs slower. Diablo has to put a lot of design work into making a blade that runs fast. Your choices of fast spinning metal blades are quite limited vs slow ones.

      Don’t use a steel blade on non-ferrous materials. Molten Aluminum can adhere to the blade and cause it to go out of balance, which can be very dangerous. It will also ruin your blade.
