  • Charles Guillemet is the Chief Technology Officer at Ledger and Ian Rogers is Chief Experience Officer at Ledger. In this interview, we discuss vulnerabilities and the foundations of secure Bitcoin wallet design, exploits and grey markets, secure silicon vs opensource, and building tools for the future of digital freedom.
    “The code that is running inside it, we know this is our code, there is no way for you to run malicious code…if you buy any other hardware wallet you have no guarantee…if you don’t have a secure element then maybe it’s a genuine device, maybe not.”
    - Charles Guillemet

    „security should be by design“. Indeed, private keys and seeds should never be able to leave the device, unlike on Ledger devices. Losing customer data doesn‘t help either.

    I think the guys are not consistent with their arguments. On the one hand they are claiming to have the most secured hardwallet and on the other hand they let slip value information and are now claiming that they have a more secure email provider. Trust me bro!

    I would love to see a simplified Ledger hardware wallet that was Bitcoin only, no Bluetooth, no Ledger Recover feature for a reduced attack surface. It could be called Ledger B Hardcore, disguised as a traditional USB hard drive that is extremely small smooth and narrow for easier transport, and it could be affordable. Basically a Ledger Nano S with Bitcoin only capability and no sharp edges.

    • @MystikNinja21
      @MystikNinja21 16 дней назад

      I don't understand this ask, to be honest. the Ledger Nano S is exactly what you asked for. No bluetooth, Ledger Recover is opt-in, and you only need to install the bitcoin "app" and be done with it. That would render the device a "Bitcoin only" device.
      Otherwise, as the others stated, another company's product may just be a better choice for you.

    I initially owned a Ledger. Didn’t like all their shenanigans. I’ve since switched to Blockstream Jade and couldn’t be happier.

    • @davecorley5514
      @davecorley5514 12 дней назад

      I have, too. But the Ledger Boys are causing me to re-think. The secure element on Jade is software (open source) and access is managed through a PIN server hosted at Blockstream. If the PIN server is out of commission, can’t log in from a helper app like Specter or Green.
      There are pluses and minuses for each solution. Pluses that I like about Jade are 1) Adam Back, 2) all the other stuff that Blockstream builds for enterprise solutions. If it’s not enterprise-grade security, no big company is gonna buy their stuff, including cold wallets.

    Please avoid featuring these guests on your podcast again. They come across as overly conceited and self-impressed. Instead of discussing Bitcoin technology, they used the platform to market their product. Although you asked some hard questions, their responses were inadequate.
    When the conversation shifted to shitcoins, they revealed themselves as not true Bitcoiners, even defending Ethereum, which was perplexing. Their defense of Ledger Recover is absurd, pretending that the potential transmission of private keys from the device is not an issue. They also downplayed the Ledger data leak as if it wasn't their fault.
    They boast that their "dungeon" can break any other hardware wallet-please invite other manufacturers to respond to this claim.

    • @nerkTV

      to be fair neither said that ethereum was digital id, nor that cryptocurrency was the future. they said that private key cryptography was the future of the human race, and that digital ownership allows for digital identity.
      edit: and re eth they said that it's a trustable decentralized computer. which I also disagree with lol
