Aisha Rta was 19 years old the hadith is weak because it comes form only one man. Evidence The Quran states in several places events and occurrences which allow us to triangulate the age of many of the characters. Some facts about Aisha 1. She was born before “The Call” and The Prophet became engaged to her ten years after “the Call” upon the death of his first wife, Khadija. It is stated that her parents were companions of The Prophet before “The Call” and that her father had already promised her to another man previously. This may have happened when she was six. 2. After she was betrothed it was five years before she was married, this is evidenced where it explains she was betrothed two years before the hijra to Medina, which took three years and she was married the year after the hijra took place. 3. Aisha is said to have died at the age of 66 years old at 58 AH, this means at the time of the call she was eight years old. If she was only engaged after the call (even by a year) she must have been nine and as her marriage was three years later she would have been a minimum of 12. 4. However, Aisha’s sister Asma is stated to have been ten years older than Aisha and is listed as being 28 years old in the first year of the call. This makes Aisha 18 years old at the time and then 19 at time of marriage. Clearly these two factors contradict each other, added to the problem is that the Hadith were traditionally passed on verbally and as stated Aisha’s age (unlike legal hadith) was not really a matter for discussion. 5. Aisha was reported to have taken part in battles alongside The Prophet, riding a camel providing water for others. Muhammand prohibited children from fighting and taking part in battles in any way, meaning she must have been reckoned as an adult. 6. Finally, The Prophet forbid marriages to take place unless both parties independently agreed as adults to it. As a nine year old, Aisha would not have been considered an adult and as a result could not have given permission for the marriage. Fathers are not allowed to force children to marry under the Prophet’s decrees. There is further discussion about contextual inconsistencies here: Marriage and Consent - perennial Reasons for confusion (opinion) It is mentioned that Aisha herself stated she was 6, however this neglects to mention that it was not Aisha herself speaking, but the reciter of the Hadith (Chinese whispers anyone?) who as mentioned was not subjected to the same rigour as other followers of the prophet. Virginity was sacred to the tribes-people. Fathers and girls would often relate their age as being less because it alleviated suspicion that the girl might have had relations with others. They had no choice but to flee Mecca in the 5th year of Islam. This indicates that by the 5th year, Aisha was at least 7 or 8 years old. If she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over 2 years after Hijra, then she must have been at least 18 when it happened. 2- In Bukhari, Kitab Tafseer-ul-Quran, it is narrated that Aisha (RA) said: لقد أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة وإني لجارية ألعب بل الساعة موعدهم والساعة أدهى وأمر “It was revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) in Mecca, while I was a still playing as a child, the ayah [from surat al-Qamar]: “The last hour is the time when they shall truly meet their fate; and that last hour will be most calamitous, and most bitter”(Quran 54:46). So Aisha was conscious enough to understand the verses of the Quran and remember their meaning. Surat al-Qamar was revealed in the 6th year of the Prophet’s mission as Qurtubi mentioned. Now how old Aisha must have been at the time? At least 8 or 9 I would say. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she was at least 15 or 16 at the time, which puts her at the age of 17 or 18 when she got married. 3- Imam Ahmad narrates the circumstances of Aisha’s marriage to the Prophet (pbuh). He says that al-Mut’am b. A’dy proposed to her for his son Jubayr. When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) approached Abu-Bakr asking for her hand in marriage, he told him that another family already approached him about the same thing and that he had to honor that. Later, Abu Bakr met al-Mut’am and his wife. He sensed hesitate from the mother of Jubayr. She said: “أخشى أن تُصبأ عائشةُ جبيرا” or “I worry Aisha would convert my son Jubayr to Islam". Abu Bakr asked the father about it, and he said that he had a similar concern as his wife. The marriage was called off and Abu Bakr told the Prophet (pbuh) That Aisha was available. How old must she have been in order to have this kind of influence? She must have been a charismatic, eloquent adult for Jubayr’s family to be concerned that she might convert their son to Islam. She definitely was not a child. 4- Muhammad b. Is’haaq, the great historian and biographer of Islam, and the teacher of ibn-Hishaam and Tabari, created a list of the first people that accepted Islam in his book as-Seera an-Nabawiyyah. He places Aisha at #19. Since the first 20 conversions must have happened in the first year, then Aisha was at least 5 years old to have that kind of consciousness (she was probably older). If she was at least 5 in the first year, then at Hijra she was at least 18 right? Which puts her at the age of 20 when she got married to the Prophet (pbuh) two years later. 5- Historians agree that Asmaa’, Aisha’s sister، was at least 27 during Hijra, as referenced by the great historian and biographer ibn-ul Atheer in his book Ussd-ul-Ghaba. Since Asmaa’ was at most 10 years older than her sister (as ibn Abdel Barr said in his book al-Istee’aab fy Ma’rifat il-Asshaab), that puts Aisha at the age of 17 at the time of Hijra, which makes her at least 19 at the time she married the Prophet (pbuh).

The Bible doesn’t record Mary’s age at marriage, so stop acting like Allah gave you a revelation. As for Rebecca, it should be obvious by just reading when Issac’s servant met her, she was a mature woman already. She was carrying multiple loads of jars of water & running while proficiently conversing with the servant. What 3 year old you know can do that? Slavery was abolished through Islam, whilst it was encourage in Christianity. The hadith regarding the age being 9 is considered sahih (authentic) but scholars can look at other sources also. During those times, people used to calculate their age AFTER puberty. So if puberty started at 10 they would count after this. There is also a well known hadith where a companion led an army of soldiers to battle at the age of 7. The same applies to this hadith.

Aisha Rta was 19 years old the hadith is weak because it comes form only one man. Evidence The Quran states in several places events and occurrences which allow us to triangulate the age of many of the characters.
Some facts about Aisha
1. She was born before “The Call” and The Prophet became engaged to her ten years after “the Call” upon the death of his first wife, Khadija. It is stated that her parents were companions of The Prophet before “The Call” and that her father had already promised her to another man previously. This may have happened when she was six.
2. After she was betrothed it was five years before she was married, this is evidenced where it explains she was betrothed two years before the hijra to Medina, which took three years and she was married the year after the hijra took place.
3. Aisha is said to have died at the age of 66 years old at 58 AH, this means at the time of the call she was eight years old. If she was only engaged after the call (even by a year) she must have been nine and as her marriage was three years later she would have been a minimum of 12.
4. However, Aisha’s sister Asma is stated to have been ten years older than Aisha and is listed as being 28 years old in the first year of the call. This makes Aisha 18 years old at the time and then 19 at time of marriage. Clearly these two factors contradict each other, added to the problem is that the Hadith were traditionally passed on verbally and as stated Aisha’s age (unlike legal hadith) was not really a matter for discussion.
5. Aisha was reported to have taken part in battles alongside The Prophet, riding a camel providing water for others. Muhammand prohibited children from fighting and taking part in battles in any way, meaning she must have been reckoned as an adult.
6. Finally, The Prophet forbid marriages to take place unless both parties independently agreed as adults to it. As a nine year old, Aisha would not have been considered an adult and as a result could not have given permission for the marriage. Fathers are not allowed to force children to marry under the Prophet’s decrees. There is further discussion about contextual inconsistencies here: Marriage and Consent - perennial Reasons for confusion (opinion) It is mentioned that Aisha herself stated she was 6, however this neglects to mention that it was not Aisha herself speaking, but the reciter of the Hadith (Chinese whispers anyone?) who as mentioned was not subjected to the same rigour as other followers of the prophet. Virginity was sacred to the tribes-people. Fathers and girls would often relate their age as being less because it alleviated suspicion that the girl might have had relations with others. In Aisha’s case this would have been doubly important as her keen wit and confidence would have (just like it does sometimes today) led to her being labelled a tart or worse.

When does a child reach the age of consciousness? At least at the age of 5 or 6 right? Aisha was telling her memories, remembering the Prophet’s visits to her house when she was young. The trials of the Muslims started with the public pronouncement of Islam, which happened in the 3rd year of the Prophet’s mission. This precipitated a severe wave of persecution for the Muslims. They had no choice but to flee Mecca in the 5th year of Islam. This indicates that by the 5th year, Aisha was at least 7 or 8 years old. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she must have been at least 15 or 16. If she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over 2 years after Hijra, then she must have been at least 18 when it happened.
2- In Bukhari, Kitab Tafseer-ul-Quran, it is narrated that Aisha (RA) said:
لقد أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة وإني لجارية ألعب بل الساعة موعدهم والساعة أدهى وأمر
“It was revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) in Mecca, while I was a still playing as a child, the ayah [from surat al-Qamar]: “The last hour is the time when they shall truly meet their fate; and that last hour will be most calamitous, and most bitter”(Quran 54:46).
So Aisha was conscious enough to understand the verses of the Quran and remember their meaning. Surat al-Qamar was revealed in the 6th year of the Prophet’s mission as Qurtubi mentioned. Now how old Aisha must have been at the time? At least 8 or 9 I would say. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she was at least 15 or 16 at the time, which puts her at the age of 17 or 18 when she got married.
3- Imam Ahmad narrates the circumstances of Aisha’s marriage to the Prophet (pbuh). He says that al-Mut’am b. A’dy proposed to her for his son Jubayr. When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) approached Abu-Bakr asking for her hand in marriage, he told him that another family already approached him about the same thing and that he had to honor that. Later, Abu Bakr met al-Mut’am and his wife. He sensed hesitate from the mother of Jubayr. She said: “أخشى أن تُصبأ عائشةُ جبيرا” or “I worry Aisha would convert my son Jubayr to Islam". Abu Bakr asked the father about it, and he said that he had a similar concern as his wife. The marriage was called off and Abu Bakr told the Prophet (pbuh) That Aisha was available.
How old must she have been in order to have this kind of influence? She must have been a charismatic, eloquent adult for Jubayr’s family to be concerned that she might convert their son to Islam. She definitely was not a child.
4- Muhammad b. Is’haaq, the great historian and biographer of Islam, and the teacher of ibn-Hishaam and Tabari, created a list of the first people that accepted Islam in his book as-Seera an-Nabawiyyah. He places Aisha at #19. Since the first 20 conversions must have happened in the first year, then Aisha was at least 5 years old to have that kind of consciousness (she was probably older). If she was at least 5 in the first year, then at Hijra she was at least 18 right? Which puts her at the age of 20 when she got married to the Prophet (pbuh) two years later.
5- Historians agree that Asmaa’, Aisha’s sister، was at least 27 during Hijra, as referenced by the great historian and biographer ibn-ul Atheer in his book Ussd-ul-Ghaba. Since Asmaa’ was at most 10 years older than her sister (as ibn Abdel Barr said in his book al-Istee’aab fy Ma’rifat il-Asshaab), that puts Aisha at the age of 17 at the time of Hijra, which makes her at least 19 at the time she married the Prophet (pbuh).

It wasn't a question it was an accusation. There is no desire to learn and discuss he tried to have a gotcha moment. We are proud of being followers of the best of creation, God's last Messenger (saws). Christians that attack Islam on that account are hypocrites because all Christians married that young in the old days as per biblical instructions. Our mother Aisha (ra) was elevated to a very high status among all women and she is an important source of Islamic law and jurisprudence through what she thought us and she is a moral example in the way she lived her life and conducted herself. There are one thousand seven hundred million Muslims, not all of them believe that Mohammed PBUH, had sex with a 9 year old girl. Some believe Aisha RA was nineteen when she married the Prophet PBUH. The hadith regarding the age being 9 is considered sahih (authentic) but scholars can look at other sources also. During those times, people used to calculate their age AFTER puberty. So if puberty started at 10 they would count after this.
There is also a well known hadith where a companion led an army of soldiers to battle at the age of 7. The same applies to this hadith.
