This is my first “archery documentary” for this channel and I include in it a full explanation of what my archery art is , I am answering with this one video all the questions that I have been asked all this time by my fellow archers who watch my work .

i was just 10 yr.s and my neighbor in his 80s, who witnessed comanche and apache attacks in south tx. by the boarder of the rio grande, and he describe the skill which he saw, on a mounted horse, shooting five arrows before the settlers would take a shot and mind you the archer was shoting under the horses neck , while he held to the mane with his teeth

In 1990 I met a 75 yo man in Houston Tx. area selling produce. From Rio Grande City,Tx. He told me about Poncho Villa coming across to U.S. side. The Village fed the men. My grandfather from Canada joined the American Army Calvary. He patrolled the southern Rio Grande River area during the campaign against Poncho Villa.

I met someone in Kerrville,Tx. that transported furniture/house hold appliances.
At a residence in the Mountain Home area is a portrait that a man inherited. Villa is in the photo. He worked at the ranch training hires. This was before the revolution. Villa was a known horseman. He was also a calvary guinius.
Who would not want to study under this young man? The grace with which he loads and fires is astounding like a ballet of the bow.

@@PanSaltzCaballeratos I came into possession of a smallish compound bow and I was wondering if it is possible to set it up for use with traditional methods by changing the arrow rest setup and such.
@@mkshffr4936 if everything is compatible then change what you need to make it comfortable and usable, I've never had the pleasure of seeing a traditional style compound bow but they do exist
This archery video is second only to "A New Level of Archery", and it's criminally underrated. I keep coming back to it every now and then. Archery had its place in every culture through history. I'm glad to see you are keeping this sacred knowledge alive for your people and for the world.

As you say, it may not be historically accurate, but it is an honest representation of what might have been and likely what was practical archery of history. This is such a specific skill. His shots are often not well placed. His ability to get off shots so quick is really amazing. I do believe this young man is on to something. As an older man and young in archery working both fine shots and long accurate shots his skills make me think. The balance of speed and accuracy is always important. His way of working his quiver to a better advantage is very instructive. I'm impressed and will try his way.
Thank you for your words! My main advice is always the following , forget what you already know and re-discover the art as if you are the first archer on earth. This makes each individual obtain a way of shooting that fits their unique body. This type of freedom makes any person seek to achieve the actual goal instead of making "a technique right". If you want the perfect balance of speed accuracy and versatility, I advise looking into Mongolian horse archers. Theirs was the largest empire in history for a reason.
I'm not an archer, but I see a good strategy here in being able fire off rapidly. In a hypothetical fight, it is very important to not only hit the target but to also lay down covering firing as effectively as possible. Whether in a defensive retreat, cover fire for wounded, or simply wanting to give the attackers multiple worries, a cover fire strategy is always important.

There is an old saying, "It's Not the crooked arrow, it's the Indian shooting it."
Correct! Even crooked arrows spin in such a way that makes them fly straight if shot in the right way.

As someone who's main goal was to reach war bow draw weights, I've recently had issues with my joints and never had interest in lower draw weight bows, this is inspiring, and I think I'm going to get into this kind of bow after seeing this. Thanks for the inspiration!

His technique is amazing. Not only the speed and accuracy but how he is punching right through targets with only a 30 pound draw weight.

I love seeing advanced archery techniques and the nuances between archery in different cultures. For anyone looking for further research material I suggest you look up egyptian archery, the jarmakee from horse archery and the writings of the anonymous french master archer.
I thought I can handle any situation with my gun, as a shooting instructor, only to be humbled by this fast warrior.
His look can be deceiving, large guy as he is, but look how fast and comfortable he is, running and shooting the bow!!

It's an art deeply rooted in our humanity. I believe that it awakens more inner things as you practice it.
I'm still waiting for you to write your archery manual. This is an interesting quote, "...Another trick was to fletch the arrows in such a way that there would be no spin in flight. War arrows would be horizontal in relation to the notch at the end of the arrow that fit onto the bowstring. Hunting arrows would be vertical in relation to the notch. Thus a war arrow could pass between the horizontal ribs of a human, while a hunting arrow passed between the vertical ribs of an animal. Fun fact all boys were givin a boy as soon as he can walk. I know my cherokee ancestors told their boys that they couldn't eat untill they shot the target and the target would move farther away everyday.

This video has inspired me I had to create a bundle bow so I did from fiberglass rod from the orange driveway markers my cane is to young and needs more time to yield bows,blow pipes, arrows and darts. Thank you very much! You are correct about the distance and situations. It's a guerrilla fight for ambushes. Especially if after the first rapid shots, the tomahawk comes out and the battle becomes melee.

Great skill, sustainable, accurate, functional. The accuracy he is getting while moving is about what is expected with most people moving and shooting a modern firearms at similar distances. Pretty impressive.

My favorite thing about all these different styles and roots in archery is that, archery is almost never about hitting the target but more about the culture, technique and mind all being in balance. A pro archer never smiles or jumps for joy when they land a shot, because a master archer is emotionally, spiritually and physically composed to perfection because THAT is what gets your arrow on the target. You don't see that in football.

The bows look like toys..until they loose the arrow. My gosh, what skill. This is a true contribution to anthropology. How it mush have been for thousands of years.
Hehehe it's easy to underestimate these light weapons and yet they can prove to be EXCELLENT. Even now they can do enormous damage. They are light, silent, easy to make and they can hit at a range, they can also hit with a curve while you are hidden. Especially now where nobody comes out with a full plate armor.

Im disabled with nerve damage though so I need to find a bow with low Lb. draw. I am looking for a teacher nearby but no luck yet, still looking for teacher and to find a bow below 50Lb. draw.

Amazing how fast and accurate he is. While I was watching this, I was thinking how incredibly and absolutely razor sharp lethal, a band of say 10 skilled warriors must have been back in the day. Let alone hundreds on horseback. Basically unstoppable.

Thank you for sharing, I've only seen one other person, a Native American from the Shawnee demonstrate this sort of effortless speed and accuracy with a bow. I pray we don't lose ppl that keep this knowledge and skill alive. It's sad we think it's obsolete or a relic of the past. It need not be that way. At times what we call progress just dulls our minds and physical skills and makes us weaker as a species. There will be a time one day when progress is reset again, be it due to war, another asteroid or some other global disaster and ppl will wish we had not lost the skills of people such as Native Americans and the nomadic Steppe people from Easter EU, middle east and Asia . The dominance of walled empires isn't gonna last forever, it's a cycle. One day we will lose so much and become so weak we won't make it thru one of these cycles. Anyways, you have my admiration

@@PanSaltzCaballeratos hey I revisited this comment despite liking it back when you wrote it. I feel compelled to reinforce what you said about these skills will be needed again. This is true!!! Big time!!! I've submersed myself in history of mesopotamia specifically the time from summerian dynasty/empire thru to roman win over Persian empire. I'm also pretty aware of how the mongol thing played out on the Eurasian steppe as well as the westward expansion of the huns much later. Basically I have an interest in nomadic peoples and steppe tribes. The point I want to make is I have an overarching belief that the ushering in of the iron age, which was born of collapse and necessity not innovation, had destroyed the natural balance of steppe nomads keeping empires and sedentary city life in check. They were akin to a forest fire for civilization allowing fertility of the next iteration of city life. What we see today is this imbalance that occurred since walled cities permanently destroyed the nomads ability to force a rebuild. There are few exceptions in modern times, Iran is one and the fall of the shah and that whole modern empires dealing with the tribal nomads of the zagros mountains. What I'm saying is civilization needs these nomadic invasions of 'barbarians' because it holds in check the hubris of man in its city builder paradigm. I'm saying the tower of babel always needs to fall and be rebuilt and nomads provided this needed destruction. We've lost that balance. Walled cities and empires after thousands of years of balance(10k-600bc) won out. And off the rails we went .. what we see today is end staged agrarian society in reality. Why? Because agrarian life born around 10k bc bore ideas out of necessity in order for farming to be successful. These ideas consist of things like armies and mercs for protection from nomadic raids. Workers to irrigate etc etc inorder to make agriculture possible. It was agriculture that made empire inevitable because sedentary agrarian life requires these other inherently detrimental power structures to exist. Which to reiterate are kings, armies and the powers that form cartels of trade routes that eventually form cities, nations and empires and hegemonies.. the point I'm making is the natural state for humans is one without ideas like currency and private land. It is tribal it is nomadic and herding and hunting and keeping moving as to let the land rest . God and/or nature can take care of the human population. any idea and efforts we make regarding self preservation is born of hubris and ego, therefor unatural We are here to live within natures confines not done Nate it and carve out safe spaces that only serve to make us fat and stupid and egotistical
@@danielgeci4513 Your mindset is to view reality from ... literally outside of space and time. This is the only way to evade the illusion of this world and see the Whole. This Apocalypse is more special than ever. It has a permanent impact on this continuous cycle. This channel is one of the beacons for people like you. A point of attention that gathers "our troops". We definitely have a role to play and do our part. That is why you do not follow the "norms" of this world, that is why we are seen as foreign by the masses. That is why you have certain "codes" inside you that give you wisdom and very specific narratives that guide you. We are soldiers from above, awaiting "activation" for whatever is needed at the perfect timing.

@@firewaterforgeofarizona4304 I sure wish I can do such a project. If I can create a good team that lives close by so that we can work together on equipment (cameras, a strong pc for editing, technicians etc) then I will definitely make entire documentaries.
