    thanks for the help. I'm using the feature to flat pattern, for a drawing dxf, a die cut gasket that will wrap around an ID surface in service.

    Why will we use flatten quilt when we have the option to work with sheet metal. i guess it is more realistic and practical

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  4 года назад

      In sheet metal mode you do not have the ability to create features like Boundary Blends, Style, and Sweep. If you want to flatten in sheet metal and you have curvature in more than one direction, you're going to have to define Deform Areas or some other kind of cheating.

      @@CADPLMGuy but is this even practical, do we have products like this and if yes, are they made from flat metal sheets?

      @@CADPLMGuy also getting different areas on selecting different points is not acceptable in industries. It should give the same value on selecting each defined points/vertex.

      @@vivekgupta9829 That is mathematically impossible. Unfortunately we're not in a position to dictate to math how we want it to work. For more perspective on this issue, see the Cartographer's Dilemma.

      @@vivekgupta9829 Yes this is practical, yes there are products like this, and they can be made out of a variety of materials. Composite materials for example could utilize this functionality and like I mentioned in the video, some companies use this for designing cloth coverings for their products. If you don't like this tool, though, no one is forcing you to use it.
