Love Samson François' playing, but he sometimes did "erreurs de lecture" (I don't know how to say this in English, but basically it means he made an error reading the score, and does not play what is written in the score). In "Oiseaux Tristes" for instance, at the beginning, instead of playing [sol/re/fa/mi/si--mi/la], he skips the first "mi," and plays [sol/re/fa/si--mi/la], and this absent "mi" makes a world of difference! Grandiose musique, par un plus grands interprètes de l’histoire ! Ravel par François, c’est en fin de compte un peu comme Chopin par Rubinstein, Beethoven par Schnabel, Rameau par Meyer ou Richard Strauss par Karajan. Autrement dit, c’est l’interprète idéal ! Une sonorité magnifique au service d’une œuvre géniale. On pourrait cependant aussi parler de Vlado Perlemuter dans Ravel, ou de Marcelle Meyer, deux pianistes dans leur élément.
Pour RAVEL par Samson FRANCOIS,je suis ,avec enthousiasme,d'accord avec vous !Beaucoup moins pour Chopin par RUBINSTEIN! Mais c'était une autre époque, et,c'est difficilement comparable! ...I'd listened to a fair number of classical players over a period of many years before being aware of Francois. He was not much known in the US for a very long time, but once you've heard Francois play him, it's pretty hard to think of Chopin the same way ever again. I've never heard his Ravel before. Thanks a million for posting this...
Another great upload, for which many thanks. Listening to Samson François playing Ravel was of the happiest part of my childhood, discs long lost, so extraordinary to encounter his subtle and sensitive playing again.
Certainly on the slower side, much slower than most of other artists, but that being said (even Ravel himself, assuming those recording titled "Ravel plays Ravel" on RUclips are truly Ravel himself). However, slow is not a necessarily a bad thing, and that reveals a lot of nuances that you don't find at a faster tempo. Sublime!

L'inspiration de chaque instant, sans fin. Les articulations, les couleurs. "chaque doigt doit chanter" disait-il au sujet du jeu idéal. J'aime beaucoup aussi l'agencement des œuvres dans ce anthologie, qui témoigne d'une réelle compréhension du caractère, des atmosphères. Un cadeau du ciel.
Nice, interesting interpretations. However, in "Ma Mère l’Oye", "Laideronnette, impératrice des pagodes", at 2:15:40, the tinkling upper piano part clearly rushes slightly ahead of the lower.

Ravelのピアノ曲は全部大好きですが特に好きなのはクープランの墓です！聴いていて何故か涙が出てきます。沢山のピアニストが演奏しますが、やはりRavelの演奏はフランソワでないとと思います。ペダルの使い方やスタッカートがとても歯切れがよく耳に残る音が聞いた後もひびいています。是非動画が見たいです！アップしていただきありがとうございました！

生粋のフランス人（ベロフもアントルモンもそうですが...）が弾くラヴェルは、まさに日本人が唄う民謡のようなもので、フランスのエスプリを感じる最高のラヴェル弾きだと思います！
A maravilhosa arte de Ravel, lugar de refúgio.
Certainly on the slower side, much slower than most of other artists, but that being said (even Ravel himself, assuming those recording titled "Ravel plays Ravel" on RUclips are truly Ravel himself). However, slow is not a necessarily a bad thing, and that reveals a lot of nuances that you don't find at a faster tempo. Sublime!

Un monument de la discographie. Pour chaque œuvre-clef du répertoire ravelien pour piano, une interprétation définitive, livrée par l'artiste unique qu'était Samson François.
L'inspiration de chaque instant, sans fin. Les articulations, les couleurs. "chaque doigt doit chanter" disait-il au sujet du jeu idéal.
J'aime beaucoup aussi l'agencement des œuvres dans ce anthologie, qui témoigne d'une réelle compréhension du caractère, des atmosphères.

Nice, interesting interpretations. However, in "Ma Mère l’Oye", "Laideronnette, impératrice des pagodes", at 2:15:40, the tinkling upper piano part clearly rushes slightly ahead of the lower.
