    My thought on why some very old boards still command high prices is that they may be needed to keep running some vintage software used to as part of a CNC setup or process control. I know a friend had to seek out a machine happy to run XP with serial ports he needed to pass controls to his very expensive Swiss lathe. Just a guess though.

    I never understand some people on EBay when it comes to prices. There some items that just keep getting relisted over and over again at the same price. Then there are others that when the item doesn't sell actually put the price up! If it didn't sell for the lower price what makes them think it'll now go for a higher amount - madness! Interesting that you mention buses, back here in the UK the cost has actually gone down with the introduction of the £2 cap on single fares. A return trip that used to cost me £7.50 now only costs £4 as it's now cheaper to buy 2 singles fares at £2 each rather than use a return ticket.

    You have a microphone with permissions given to google or a browser or the like. That’s how it knew to show you Magnum PI. Thomas Magnum is super cool of course, but you and your boys should get together and be the A-Team, Mod Squad, Monty Python, or Not the 9 o’clock news. If you insist on playing Magnum, good luck wearing those short shorts!! Have fun and be safe!!

    I actually guessed the second one to be AMD, I also have the exact same P4 motherboard but with a 3,06Ghz cpu, it is a very good win98 performer

    G,day Richard from Sydney Australia.
    * Im surprised of the value; old 90s Pentium CPU tower
    * Open tower cabinet
    * Check RAM card
    * Take out card, isopropyl, brush and dry
    * Check spec on fan and replace or free propeller
    * Check caps for swelling (test for capacitance)
    * Boot up look at LCD codes and listen for tones.

    In the uk we have a cost of living crisis… all engineered by increases in energy costs with said energy companies making record profits & a government sponsored by said companies.

    • @NewbFixer

      We buy a lot of electricity from Germany and other countries daily and pump it into our grid to meet the demand as we dont generate enough power on our own. And they charge what they want. We are building another nuclear power station (madness) to keep up with the demand. It is a crisis as you say and hopefully will stabilise soon. Looking to the future i hope fusion works at ITER and this will help with our energy demands as they are growing and growing. Energy cost money and if you want to save money use less energy.

    I follow "Dave's Garage" on RUclips, I'd love to find one of his machines at a boot sale. His latest build has a 1000 watt processor inside! And he's got 3 of these monsters.

    Hi Richard; regarding the KADA 853/853B. I see it on AliExpress advertised as "220V / 110V" but when I go down to the technical description it says 220V with no mention of 110V, which is what I would need here in the U.S. Is there a way to allow it to function on the lower input voltage or is the description incorrect?

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  6 месяцев назад

      I've heard others say the same. Unfortunately as we have 220V here I can't really advise on that but I heard that US homes have both 110V and 220V as they have three wires (one is the 110V center tap) I googled this and found 'We do have 220V, but it is only for high-draw loads like electric stoves/dryers, etc with large plugs' so isn't a matter of plugging a 220V device into the correct sort of socket? I guess the KADA preheater kind of comes into the realm of stove/dryer. But that's just what google told me, I've never actually been to the USA

      @@LearnElectronicsRepair Thanks so much for the speedy reply, Richard - much appreciated! Electricity is fed into U.S. homes via two main wires which supply 220 Volts AC at 60 cycles. We have a local ground (earth) wire connected to the main circuit breaker box, forming a split configuration in the breaker box, so we end up with two separate feeds into our houses with 110 volts on each side. This allows the devices that consume that power to be balanced between both halves of the main feed. The standard 3-pin wall sockets in each room supply 110 volts on the "hot" lead which is the narrower of the two flat plug pins and uses a gold colored screw; with a "neutral" lead on the second (wider of the two flat plug pins and uses a silver colored screw) of the main electrical feed side, and a third round "ground" pin which uses a green colored screw. In actuality many of our homes receive more like 240 volts, so the split voltage is closer to 120 VAC. We do have 220/240 VAC sockets but only for specific large appliances like the clothes washer (often those are still 110/120 VAC), the clothes dryer, the kitchen oven, sometimes built-in kitchen microwaves, sometimes the heater, and external devices like swimming pool pumps, air conditioners etc. Those specific 220/240 VAC sockets are much larger than those for the 110/120 VAC and have a totally different pin configuration. Thus the standard electrical sockets in the rooms of our houses only supply 110/120 VAC, not 220/240, and typically are rated at 15 to 20 amps maximum on each circuit. The 220/240 VAC sockets are reserved for the high-current appliances. Back to my question then - it sounds from your answer that the KADA is only 220 VAC, not configurable - can you confirm that? If that is the case, then the description I saw for that item on AliExpress is incorrect.

    The high requested prices suggests a delusional outlook, especially when the actually achieved prices are much lower.
    The delusion could be forced as people are looking to maximize their return on investment, however, they refuse to see the real value of things in their lives.
    A pity really, but that's life.

    Inflation in UK compared to Spain. If Spanish government did what UK government has done there would be riots in the street. Spain did not have Liz Truss tank the economy. Spain is a fairer society and their public transport system is either nationalised or subsidised by the government. UK should learn from Spain and refuse to be shafted by their government.

    Hi Rich great video mate :) There is a direct relationship between population rate and inflation rate. When the population rate of a country increases overtime, this means that the demand of overall goods and services will increase also. This is when suppliers bump up the prices. When inflation is low, stable and predictable, it helps people and businesses to better plan their savings, spending and investment. That helps the economy to grow, in turn creating jobs and prosperity. I think some really small countries benefit from low inflation while the bigger countries need higher inflation to grow. If the suppliers didnt increase their prices of the products they provide they would become prolific and become valueless and society would become stagnant as everyone has everything and growth would stop. At that point is it worth making new services and products to make very little profit or break even. You need to reinvest into your business and grow and make new stuff. Its hard to do that with no excess money.

      Well I'm no expert but the statistics are that Gran Canaria had about 850,000 inhabitants in 2016 when we moved here and had around 864,000 inhabitants in 2023. Interestingly of the 864,000 residents, 287,000 are foreigners. So about 33% of the population are immigrants. That's about twice as high as the UK with 18% immigrants but it also seems strange that many in the UK complain there are too many but I never heard that sentiment here. The immigrants here are also concentrated in certain areas such as Las Palmas (the capital) and Maspalomas where I live. At the same time we get about 4 million tourists a year and most of those are also concentrated in Maspalomas. There are already plans (approved by the government) to provide free unlimited public transport to all residents of any age anywhere on the island and just let the tourists pay for it. I've no idea how that plays into the discussion regards inflation.

      ah buddy its crazy aint it :) if we understood it, it wouldnt be an issue. Its complicated for sure. The economists even struggle to understand it and disagree with each other all the time to whats going on and we end up in crisis when suppliers take the piss due to their greed. That being said if said supplier needs to pay more for an ingredient for example then the end product price goes up. (external influence) Its doesnt matter if its fuel for a bus route or bread, inflation will occur. So whats the answer if everyone worldwide is putting prices up? I have no idea buddy except keep paying and if you want to save money use less. Anyway politics and economics shouldnt be mixed with electronics fun and learning. Love ya buddy, no romance intended. :) @@LearnElectronicsRepair
