It's kinda crazy that there are like 3 of these episodes that are lost. Imagine having a semi-popular show with lost episodes due to failure to preserve.
It happens. Mystery Science Theater 3000 has at least two lost pieces of media, one being the 3rd episode that aired on KTMA-TV23 back in 1988 and another being an unused short for a canceled CD-ROM. The CD-ROM was to feaure two riffed shorts but to this day only one has been located.
I think the real problem is genuinely I don't think most people even realized the GameTap episodes were happening until after the service had been discontinued.
I do love announcing that "The home office in Grand Rapids sent me to (stop them from whatever). It's disrupting the morning show. You know the nutty bunch? Larry and Eric? They can't do their thing while you're up here".
I was thinking recently how much of western pop culture in the last 30 years has been an indirect result of this silly cartoon. Cartoon Network was literally reruns of Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo before this show, and Ted Turner didn't want to fund original programming, so some employees made a cheap pilot by cutting up old cartoons Ted Turner already owned. It was a hit, and eventually the creators were given the okay to acquire some foreign cartoons and do an action block. Toonami broke anime into the mainstream in the west. After that success, they were given a late night block for mature audiences. Not only did several AS originals become culturally significant works, but a number of Fox's mishandled cartoons were given a second life. Family Guy, Futurama, and King of the Hill owe a lot of their present place in the cultural lexicon to these goofballs.
@@AstronautLoveTriangle Yes! And this is the kind of situation that you really need to put it together in order to make sense. Like some Dan Brown DaVinci Code type shit. SGC2C is like Tesla in a world full of Edisons, lol.
What I want to see is the long lost first episode of the show. I've only seen really old screenshots the size of thumbnails from 90's internet websites.
Was the Spank Ray ever explained? How did it work? Did a ray come out and spank you, or did it just give you the impression of having been spanked? In any event, I'm glad SGC2C lasted as long as it did.
Y'know, I hope we do find the remaining GameTap episodes (if they haven't already been found yet), 'cause these have some great moments in them that are on-par with the normal length episodes of the previous seasons, atleast in my eyes!
"When GameTap was defunct in 2010, the episodes were considered lost media until the majority of them were found and uploaded to RUclips by Another Archive Channel, although a few episodes are still considered lost media to this day." From there someone uploaded them to Archive .org (/details/sgc2c-gametap-episodes), and then I took the funniest of the bunch and edited them slightly. Sadly they will likely never be officially released in high quality but on the plus side they aren't subject to the same copyright laws as the rest of the series thus I was able to share it without worrying about RUclips blocking it.
9:00 Yar... I recall a Rhonda (if I remember correctly) from the 9th, or maybe 7th level of Yar, but she was wearing some sort of cube or box so all I could see was her eyes. Who's this winged dude? I freaking miss this show. Seriously, we need a reboot
truly the finest late night talk show in basic cable history
I'd say just leave the show as it is. Knowing how things work, netflix would make some hyper-woke version and completely ruin it.
Croker's also gone (RIP), and George's voice isn't the same as it used to be. It wouldn't be the same.
