- Former Fugees member Pras stopped by VladTV to talk about what is was like creating his first solo album after the splitting with the Fugees, how Ol' Dirty Bastard winded up on his single "Ghetto Superstar", and much more.
In regards to his first solo album, Pras let us know his primary goal was to create, coming off of a huge roller coaster with The Fugees Pras made it a point not to get distracted, and continue to make good music. His album, "Ghetto Superstar" had a hit single entitled "Ghetto Superstar," featuring Mya, and Ol' Dirty Bastard. "It was one of those situations where he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, heard the beat, fell in love with it, and was like let me hop on it... he walked in my session by mistake," Pras explained. "I don't know if he was drunk, but I know he didn't know the state he was in... I was in California, but he thought he was in New York." "The music is looped in the background, and he's like yo what's that?... S**t's hot I need to get on that." Pras planned on erasing it, but he kept it because it came out hot. It only took one take for ODB to lay down his verse.
Pras talked about what it was like to get a number 1 record on his own. "It was like going to work... Your success you knew what it was, there was no theatrics, no illusion.. sitting back, reflecting years later it's like wow, okay."
Check out the full video above.
i can almost guarantee you if ODB wasn't on that track, it would had not been as hot as it was
thereallifez your right ODB made that song hot it would have gotten ignored
And I are probably right!!!!!🤘🤘🤘😄
Facts.
100%...
Mya did hold her own tho.
"I was in california and he thought he was in New York"." That sounds like ODB allright😂
Lol ✊
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
🙏🙏🙏🙏😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
👍. Rip OBD
O.D.B probably walked into that elevator in the N.Y studio and walked out into the L.A studio where Pras was. That kinda shit was possible to happen with the Osiris.
WallKenshiro 👍🏾👍🏾
WallKenshiro damn fr God !
Faxx
Man you got me dying 😂😂😂😂
WallKenshiro 😂😂😂😂
I love how Pras doesn't allow Vlad to goof on real shit or disrespect a niggas memory.
I seen that. Wanna be all giggly when he about to show the Old Dirty Jr. interview where he talks about his father's death. Vlad sounds maniacal at times.
+Xion Brown Sounds...IS maniacal.
Unc Tay good observation
I like how Pras defended ODB's reputation by not saying he was drunk. He didn't wanna give giggling ass Vlad no satisfaction. Solid
100%. Pras is a real good dude.
Vlad is a piece of work… Pras a real dude. Respectful .
But He also added He didnt know what He had He just didnt know what state He was on, like Its not worse lol stop it bois
Nah he was basically saying with out saying he was high not drunk he not speaking on behalf of dirty
Y’all real miserable and always complaining ODB known for being drunk and doing drugs. What’s the satisfaction in that y’all too emotional and defensive about nothing
Dirt Dawg is a fucking LEGEND!!! God sent him to record this session... He didn't have to know what state he was in. Just a man traveling the world leaving his mark on us all.
Vanilla Theis fucin facxx
Help Mariah get over the Tommy Matola wave too
Definitely a man
🎉👌🏼👏🏼👍🏼
on god!
This is a legendary ODB story. The man was in Cali.. thought he was in NYC.. and made a legendary feature. RIP ODB
The deadpanned and totally unamused way Pras tells the ODB story is hilarious.
"He was at the wrong place at the wrong time" 🤣
"I don't know if he was drunk, maybe he was just tired..."
Cmon now, we all know ODB was high af.
He’s not disrespectful or that type of person to put anything like that out regardless of what we all know.
@@ciaa8387 agree.
ODB Will Spit Raw 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
R.I.P Big Baby Jesus
Show was
So ODB rolls into the wrong studio, lifted, and dropped the hotness. RESPECT.
Pras is pure trash compared to Dirty. The whole track should have been ODB and Mya.
Notice he didnt want ODB there at first but he still let him recordTranslation: He was too scared to kick him out, lmao
or just being respectful
Man you have to be high as HELL to think your in NY when your in California
Grindahz Studio you must be high as HELL to use "your" instead of "you're*"....
*you're* as in "*you* fucking *are*".
@Lisa Surlie you are a whole bitch
Smoking cracks & weed
or.....just be ODB
Pras can drain the energy out of any story. smh
lmao
Fr😴😴
👍
👍
+BOX5 BASTARD 👍👍😄😀😀👌👍👍👍👍
Sounds like a typical ODB story, one of the greatest mistakes ever.
Another ODB story. I remember watching the VMAs when they played this song, and at the end a pyro was about to go off, and ODB was standing where it was about to go, and Pras came up and pulled him back. A friend of mine caught that, too, but I never heard anyone else talk about it. I figured Pras saving ODBs life in front of the world would have been big news, at least on MTV, haha.
The story from Violent Jay's autobiography about ODB is great. I wont spoil it. I'm sure you can find that section of the book. It's a great story and if you're an ODB fan, you'll love it!
World Wide Patriots asshole just say it. You his manager promoting his book or something ?
@@joeylatz7611 😂😂😂👍💯.
Pras needs to be GRATEFUL that ODB walked in because his presence on Ghetto Superstar is what made it a hit
Fuckin facts..I appreciate him being candid… but fr… Pras career based on luck.. his biggest hit was no different
Definitely one of the best ODB stories ever. Love how organically that record came together. That's real Hip Hop!
My favorite is when he recorded “Bitches” with Insane Clown Posse he just mumbled about Bitches the entire time and they made a song about it 😂
My favourite is when he recorded Fantasy with Mariah. That shit should be a whole movie 😂😂
Odb collab with Camron was him randomly walking in 😂
THESNEAKERADDICT yup lol
Hey bro protect your brand, you shouldn’t be commenting on random posts
That's hilarious but so ODB luv his uniqueness he was definitely one of a kind may he continue to RIP 🙏🙏🙏
I'm starting to wonder if this was a tactic of his now lol
@@geniasmith5791 Ason Unique is his original name 💯
odb made that shit hot, just think if he never stumbled in that session. shit wouldn't even be talked about twenty years later.
The God.
Truuuu
That hook was beautiful though.
Fax 📠
So did Mya!
Pras don't like interviews. Or maybe he doesn't like Vlad lol.
Says Who?
"You work for the C.I.A.?"
Top flight of the world haha!
+Sean Tyler lol
+Beeasy 617 lol
Vlad: "So you do Ghetto Superstar.." Pras: "Where you hear that?!?" Vlad: "um...Wikipedia."
lmfaooooo
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Vlad was shook when he asked him that lmaooooo
Roberto Hoyos lmao 😂
Roberto Hoyos CTFU!
The song was just meant too be..my favorite till this very day!! The spirit...is definitely going too move you....RIP ODB!!💪🤩🤩
This Ngga is a whole bedtime story
🤣
Turn the speed to 1.5
Hey yeah
Lololol
You damn right, ssssssshid
Or maybe ODB pretended to not know and ended up on the track... GENIUS... 😜😜😜
Its possible
I agree
ODB didn't need it though...especially THEN...dude was bat shit crazy kinda genius
Makes sense.
Lol
ODB will always be a legend. A truly amazing talent with a style that can't be replicated
He made that track hot
Pras' looking at Vlad between each question like he the feds. He ain't even smile once!
I absolutely love this interview. Pras legit pissed ODB didn't realize he didn't take an elevator to the studio, bahaha
I love how Pras is controlling the interview letting Vlad know he peeps his CIA interrogator ass.
I swear this whole time I thought that was ODB and Mya track. Gotta listen again
That’s not mya ?
🤡
@@bmwbmw8466 😂😂😂😂😂
turn the speed up to 1.25 your welcome
righter0o07 that was clutch
That was a masterstroke.👌
Thank you!!
This needs more views

Stuck up nigga, without ODB on that track it would have never been a hit
I dont think he was stuck up i dont think he witnessed odb genius.
he's not stuck up. Not everyone tell stories in a joking matter
+phillyrick nigga pras was trash... Weakest link in the fugers
+phillyrick yup
phillyrick correct he was a abstract poet. Kinda like q tip.
Pras was not laughing with Vlad about the ODB situation.
*uncomfortable*
Drug addiction ain't funny
Or any situation
Classic ODB story! We need more ODB stories from artists. I think they'll be just as entertaining as all the DMX stories we hear. Lol!
Told from a better story teller. I'd rather listen to a story from a parrot than Pras. He deadpan
"I heard about this story". Vlad gettin the Pras death stare again.
Werd like nigga you sound too hype n I'ma 90s nigga don't catch a buck 50 nj drive style.
I was thinking Pras is showing no emotions and not responding to vlad correctly the tone is off, then I realised Vlad is not Interviewing him because Vlads voice is dubbed over the interview So Pras Emotions are off
because he's not responding to Vlads tone.
+eLEVATEDHAIRBYTIFF 😭😭😭😭
+MANGO ZOO nigga vlad is sitting right across from him
Stunna BadAzz I could be wrong.
Pras don't like this story one bit and I know why.
ODB came in high as hell and dropped a better verse than him on his own damn song. lol
Shit gotta be embarrassing. lol
pac7025
Ha you're right! There are three things people remember about this song 1) Mya 2) ODB 3) Halle Berry in tha music video
@@compteprivefr exactly!!!
@Lisa Surlie whatchu tryna say?
@@juliorojas4384 i think he saying ODB is a wayyyyy better rapper than Pras!
Back in '95 or '96 I was leaving my doctors appointment and went to get on the elevator, next thing I know I'm standing side by side next to ODB. We rode the elevator together in complete silence. I just pretended like I didn't recognize him.
The seriousness on his face makes this story even more funny 😆
Pras is that one friend that starts telling a story and you say Damn That's Crazy after he finishes 🤣🤣. Great story tho after I taped my eyelids open.
Pray you should do voice over on the CALM APP😉
🤣... I gotta boomerang a "damn that's crazy" @you for Pras's sake tho🤣🤣
ODB did his thing on Ghetto Superstar......whenever that beat drops i turn it up!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #classic
pras one serious cat he only smiles once in this interview
well if you're considered as one of the wackiest rappers of all time that got lucky ..you wouldn't be smiling either ..
Pras is a G. Much respect.
No. I've always respected him. He seems to never be associated with sucker shit, unlike most rappers.
SUNKAPRODUCTIONS real talk
He went undercover and lived on skid row. I don't expect to see any smiles, lol.
No stories like this can be linked to any other rappers. He get a verse on one of the biggest tracks of the 90s by inviting his drunk ass. The realest.
I was thinking Pras is showing no emotions and not responding to vlad correctly the tone is off, then I realised Vlad is not Interviewing him because Vlads voice is dubbed over the interview So Pras Emotions are off
because he's not responding to Vlads tone.
It's making Pras look crazy, he's not even in the room.
exactly
No shit? Thanks for that I didn't realise he does that fugazi shite
Yeah forreal I thought the man was having an off day or something. Now I know what's really up.
How did you know? How can you tell? Aside from his reactions not matching the conversation lol
I can't believe I missed that!
"I don't know if he was drunk, but I know he aint know what state he was in." 😂 RIP ODB, on of a kind.
Pras isn’t snitching on anyone. Lol.
This guy seems like a blast to hang out with. Does he have a sense of humor or know how to smile at all?
I like how precise he is in answering Vlad’s questions; he doesn’t let any words get put in his mouth.
ODB was ahead of his time lol.
He was original for real :-) smh
Odb knew where he was. He heard a great beat and had to get on it.
Pras needs to lighten up a little. All these years later and he can’t find the humor in all of it still.
This is why ODB is a true LEGEND and is my favourite one of my absolute favourite character people in not just hip hop, but in entertainment and in life period, he was such a funny and wild but real character and he just always seemed such a down to earth person, even when he was at the height of his fame and wealth, he stayed true to his roots, he had a spirit that couldn't be tamed, and is a real hip hop LEGEND
RIP absolute don Russell Jones ODB
Love interviews above all, fun to sit in circle time
ol d b is a rockstar and he was native American Indian, his grandfather sold Manhattan to the white man...under false pretenses of course
Vlad: "So, I see that you're wearing a gold watch here in our interview. But what most people don't know about *that* particular gold watch is that Slim J.. "
Pras: "Who told you I was wearing a gold watch?!"
....
Pras: "Who told you that?"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nigga u stupid 😂😂😂
lmaoooooo
lol
i bet thats howd he react too 😆
I ONCE READ ODB PISSED ON A L.L. COOL J. PLATINUM PLAQUE, AND PUT IT BACK ON THE WALL.
I think what people need to recognize is that ODB is basically Thelonious Monk born in NY during the hip hop era.
What comes of that is a distillation of pure awesome and pure insane.
Pras saved Dirty from getting fucked up on stage almost burned by pyro effects..
ODB will never be forgotten all 10 of my kids love OBD Ya it's 2017 still representing ODB like he never left much love OBD
Sounds like he thought he was at Quad studios in NY. (where Pac was shot)
Everytime I see pras I think of sitting 90 degrees under palm tree
Everybody wears a mask...
Young Zee and Paceone wrote almost all of Pras lines on the Fugees. Fact!
...leavin trails broken, flippin tokens to Hoboken...
Smokin beadies as I burn my calories 🤣
Im there brother...
Ghetto superstar is a classic track and then with Mya on the track even more amazing
His son look just like him. I bet Pras glad he didn't remove him from the track because it wouldn't have been nearly as hot without ODB..
He looks like Geno Smith from the New York Jets lol
This comment didn't age well.
Truth Seeker geno smith looks like him 🤣
I’ve heard so many versions of this story… Let me correct that. I’ve heard this same story several times, just with different characters involved…. The first time I heard this was from Mariah. She said that she was in the studio recording when ODB came stumbling in and started singing over the track, no questions asked!!
ODB was a great rapper. Genius level just like Pras said. Especially when he was up in a radio studio doing an interview… Endless rhymes, flows, hooks, you name it. Then he would top that with giving a great interview.
Mariah story different song. She got him for the song. So did Pras. They’re just liars.
That singing , ODB did at the end of Ghetto Super Star was genius !
ODB brought that song from a cup of coffee up to an 8ball of coke 4sure
Vlad messed up the story, he should have let Pras keep talking. He said ODB did his routune in layers, I wanted Pras to keep talking about that. But no Vlad had to cut away because he interviewed ODB son about ODB getting high in front of son. We know that story let the story we don't know play. Plus the ODB getting high in front of son didn't fit in this one.
We lost a real God in ODB. RIP.
Josh Mobery peace,lord
We all know that ODB was a blessing on the track. I don't know if it'd been as rotated if he wasn't on it.
Not gonna stand for the Pras disrespect. No, he may not have been the best emcee of the group, but he really stepped his game up from Blunted On Reality & the Nappy Heads/Vocab remixes to The Score. Salaam Remi is on record stating Pras was the business and pop music mastermind o The Fugees.. Lauryn was the soul. Wyclef was the mad musical scientist. Pras was the executive producer and the one whose decisions guided the group to superstardom.
Praz:how you heard of me? Vlad: you used to run with Wyclef
I had no idea that’s how ODB got on that track. Thanks Vlad!
Praz:why you wanna talk about a song i recorded 20 years ago? Vlad: cuz it's your only hit Praz:true!!!
😄😄😄😄😄
i never heard any other praz song and i for real thought it was odb and maya. i saw the music video and it said praz and i was like who the heck is praz? i only hear odb and maya.
What are you fools talking about he has hits with fugees
The fact that he just randomly walked in the studio is fucking hilarious😂
I would believe 100% either of these statements:
1. ODB knew about the song before-hand and it was an elaborate ruse on his part, a genius' plans we'll never understand.
2. ODB was out of his mind, crazy and intoxicated, but that is how genius do; their plans we just never understand.
Underrated comment man, never let truth get in the way of a good yarn! R.I.P Dirt
Damn, all this time I thought that was
ODB 's song. Now I see why Pras was heated... "You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song."
I thought it was was Dirty's song too. Damn. Lol.
Salute to Pras but he ain't want that action with ODB
"I was tryna get him out....respectfully...."
lmao
ODB! Rocked that shit! Make it your own
Pras isn't strong with press but he is very knowledgeable. This man has aged with time well and can teach the old and young alike on music business.
Best part is he doesn't sound like a white collar sell out and always stayed true to himself.
A very good figure to represent those of color.
One of the best stories in history of music…
Odb "Brooklyn Zoo" is one of the most unique rap songs ever.
1:13 let me jump on it, I was like…WHAT? 😕😐🤔😂😂😂😂😂
I remember they were performing the song at some award show, might have been the MTV Music Awards and pyrotechnics were supposed to go off at the end. Everyone left the stage but ODB was still on standing right where the pyrotechnics were gonna go off. Pras ran back on stage grabbed him and pulled him from that spot. Right after that the pyrotechnics went off.
+daroyalgeneral Yeah that shit was crazy
Yep. That actually happened.
Love your video's Vlad. p.s I would never want to play poker with Pras.
I dont know if he was drunk, if he was tired.....
God bless his soul right now.
This a real nigga right here.
Killed the whole vibe anyone else would’ve been dying telling this story
He should thank God ODB came.He added flavor to that track
This story is not funny at all to Pras lmao
Kuz he's not a disrespectful clown
i started dying, he liked so mad about that
demikpre "He like lemme get on that track."
Pras- "what"
😂😂😂😂😂
QVEZO I know, he was thinking, "hell naw, you not just going to come in here and take over, nigga you didn't even ask me." 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I’m dead af serious ass
And ironically, the first words on ODB's verse was "my eyes are sore!"
Classic ODB, gotta luv him
I BET ITS A MILLION GREAT STORIES OUT THERE !!!! WE NEED MORE !!!!
Can you imagine being across America when you wake up ??🧐😂
Rest in peace ODB. 👊🏿
C'mon Pras...this coulda been a classic ODB story if it were told by someone else.
Nah, I like his serious delivery. It makes ODB's silliness that much more funny.
Pras sounds like the guy you hire for voice overs when James Earl Jones says naw I'm good
I remember seeing the music video on MTV when I was only 7 (in 1998), in Sweden. I didn't pay any particular attention to ODB at the time. Years later I found out about the Wu (and the rest of hiphop as a whole), and now ODB definitely stood out in the Wu and any song he featured on (let alone Big Daddy Kane's "Show & Prove").
This is wild. ODB will never be replicated. Impossible.
FYI I said this before hearing glad sat the same thing at end of video
Lmaoooooo. Man I would have loved to party with ODB.
You'd OD
Pras is a creative genius and a very intelligent business man
Honestly Dirty was the best part of the whole album. I don’t know why Pras played him down so much. Jealousy propably.
Man Pras better b glad odb stopped by and blessed his song and didn't ask for money. I'm sorry Pras was the most boring out of the fugees..sorry lol
I read about him getting high in front of his son in Rza's book, The Tao of Wu. He was certainly a troubled soul. Very sad.
Also, that book was one of the best I've ever read.
Same here
back then was a special time to live in
Yes it was!
No more interviews with Pras please. Thank you.
Old Dirty had the sickest voice. I really like when Dirt would spazzz out screaming on a track.
I remember when this song came out here in Iceland. It was a super hit on the radio stations. You could hear it everywhere for a long time. I was like 12 at the time, but this song always bring up good memories that are although hazy.
