The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I wonder how many coloraturas maintain such flexibility and lightness of voice at age 58. Not so many I would think. I find her performance absolutely stunning, considering her age.

@@bauchmann9971 She obviously maintained proper technique and did not abuse her voice.
The point is, today a coloratura of this age simply doesn't exist-they stop long before or try to be somtehing more "dramatic" which rarely works well!

That coluratura aria is from Leo Delibes' India-set opera LAKME. (The show's other famous number is the Flower Duet.)

Voices continue to improve for a quite a while, unlike other body parts...
You loose flexibility and height with age this is normal, but other things may improve like volume f. ex., not to forget the artistic expression....
She had her high notes at 70 also.
@@b_uppy...mens voices fare better because of the vocal mutation which makes the vocal cords longer thicker and harder. High women's voices don't fare as well with age after menopause.....

What a great voice. What a total lack of expression, terrible rhythm, phrasing. No wonder they made fun of her, especially Bernstein with his Glitter and be Gay.
Oh, and the lousy acting.

She is less agile than when she was younger, but that makes it not that bad!!
No one ever made fun of Lily Pons. When your voice range is that wide and your tone is that even....all you have to do is sing. We bask in her unequivocal glory....
