Go to the Bermagui boat ramp and use some Striped Tuna if you want to catch a big Luderick

I found the hairy stringy weed to be more effective n use the cabbage weed for burley. Good fun and quite simple to do. How we kept the hairy weed was between sheets of newspaper in a dark cool area.

Sad I couldn't join you for another luderick jaunt.
    Work got in the way.
However I will go down and see if I can catch at least twice as many as you in a couple of weeks 😉

Nice session Sammy! It’s so interesting to see how effective that berley was hey 👌
The only time I’ve ever chased Ludes was actually with your old man The Phantom, I couldn’t believe how hard they go! 🎣

Used to fish for them with my grandfather. He always threw his burley out the upstream side of the boat to keep them closer. We used quill floats and when he got a down he would put the rod down and roll a smoke (15 seconds or so) to let the slack go out of the line and give the fish a chance to swallow the bait. He never missed a fish using this method. He was always up me for striking to early and missing a lot of fish. We used the stringy creek weed and kept it laid out between damp sheets of newspaper and rolled up in a hessian bag. Would last at least a week that way. Hope that helps.

awesome video man. its pretty cool to use a different bait to help target specific species. i still remember the sensation wen i saw the rod going crazy from using the weed for bait to get those fish

Awesome session Sammy! Saw some whole Luderik in the grocery store the other day, was tempted to but because I have seen you catch them. Tinny success! Keep the episodes coming.
I have a video idea - it would be awesome to see you and Robert Fields (from field trips) do an episode or two on each others RUclips channels. He is USA based buy comes to NZ once or twice a year.

Might have hung on to those other two with the longer, softer wand 😉

My only advice, particularly if you’re in heavily fished areas or when the fishing is slow, is to use significantly less weed. Only use enough to just cover the hook 🤙

  • @buddajoseph
    @buddajoseph Год назад +1

In that strong current have more water mixed with your sand to make it denser and compress it harder to make it sink lower in the water column.
Throw your burley upstream so it works close to the boat.
Less time drifting and fighting fish when they are close to the boat where your burley's working,

Not sure if its the same weed though.

I heard that sea grass beds as the best to drift over. Wading is good too!

40 years ago - the Short and Tiger Mullet spots were wall to wall in season. It's a long term affair once you catch the bug!! Every few years the Alvey ballbearing centrepin (that sidecasts too) still gets a run in northern NSW! And no - you can't have my weed spots too!!😅
