  • Javier Milei has proven to be Argentina’s saviour.
Before the Libertarian leaders’ ascension to the top job, Argentina was battling record high inflation, widespread poverty and depleted morale.
But Milei has breathed new life into the struggling South American country, turning around its fortunes and renewing hope in the process.
Sky News All-Stars Rita Panahi, Paul Murray, and Rowan Dean take a deep dive into Argentina’s renewal.

@@astronemirThats what dems and government officials want you to think. Government is bloated and have way more people than we need, too big of salaries, and waste constant money so they get more funding the next year. Ask any state or federal worker, weve all seen the massive waste and useless employees around. This counts people in elected and non elected positions, military and civilian sector alike.

@@astronemir [Feel free to read this or not, I went on a rant and typed too much. I would understand if you didn't want to.] You heard the news. He accomplished having a surplus for the first time in ages. Saving money is just as much an accomplishment as earning money, just one is proactive and one is reactive. The US Government has shutdowns all the time as well, and nothing really changes because of it. Local governments are more useful and beneficial to their people, and the majority of people who would feel the pain of big government missing would be the ones that rely on them for sustainability or subsidies (heard of or remember the term "Too big to fail"?).
For states and counties, and likewise for European and Asian territories, the local governments are more than capable of providing for their people as needed. Yes, this may impact those who are incapable of work due to medical issues or conditions, but more often than not it impacts those who refuse to work and just want to take tax payer money, can't maintain a stable job due to personality disorders or bad attitudes, people with useless educations that do not provide some sort of beneficial public service or skill, criminals that abuse the systems put in place to help those who actually need it... The list goes on.
There was a point in time when people were labelled as "undesirable", and no I don't mean because of ethnicity or anything of the like. I mean there was a point in time when we didn't tolerate those who didn't at least attempt to provide for themselves. He who does not work shall not eat. Even Vladimir Lenin believed that this stance was essential amidst a socialist ideology. And as much as I know people would love to convince everyone that is hateful and wrong, it comes down to a mixture of civilization and survival instincts. A civilized person will work for their keep and that of their loved ones, while someone only interested in their own survival will steal or take from those who have what they have not.
In this brave new world of "moral ambiguity" we are all faced with choices to make that drive who we become. The hard part is trying to balance your desire for survival with the motivation to work for it, and persistence to keep looking for something better, while hoping you find a fair company. Honestly, that is REALLY hard to hit all 4 of those points, and sometimes you have to settle for sacrifice in one form or another to achieve the other 2 or 3. I know I slaved away at a thankless job for over a decade until my savings dried up because they never gave me a raise and cost of living went up twice. I was pushed to look for something better, as 25 cent ramen packages were just not enough anymore, and was lucky enough to find it.
The key point is to stop at this minor socialist stage and not advance further as Lenin did into Communism. A healthy blend of multiple ideologies would be beneficial, but the problem comes when you need to stop those in power from reaching for more, or for those in power to take from others to give to those who did not earn it. Social assistance should be kept to an absolute minimum necessary.
Our energy would be better spent putting an end to investment as a business which only pushes businesses to take more for their work from the public/customers to provide to the those who are already wealthy to begin with. The stock market as well which basically generates wealth from nothing for those who have the secrets (or are keen to the world around them), and takes from those who are bad with money or simply unlucky. About 25-40% of all houses nation-wide in the US are owned by investors, driving up the values and creating artificial scarcity when people who need to live in them can't buy them for an affordable price, and are forced to rent for a ridiculous amount. The house my grandmother and grandfather bought in the late 60s for less than $15,000 sold last year for $735,000 for a mere $580 per square foot. That's insane. A 1,250ish sqft house for nearly 3/4 of a million dollars.
Anyway, sorry for the rant and length of this response. If you read it, thanks for listening. The long and short of it is that shutting down major government functions often doesn't have as much impact as people think so long as local communities are willing to take care of their own properties and people. I have seen private companies pay for their road repairs, heck I have seen just normal people do it themselves because the city wouldn't. We just need to go back to smaller communities and people supporting each other instead of relying on some national-sponsored pseudo-parent figures to provide for us by taking from others.

And the great majority of germans who came from nazi germany where common good folk who didn't agree with Hitler so they came here to escape nazism. Argentina had one of the world's best economy back then. People with nazi heritage in Argentina are very little, in fact is more common to find them in USA due to Operation Paperclip. Im not of german heritage (my ancestors came from Ireland, italy, spain, england and france. Yeah im that mix) but i know many people with german surnames here, all good people and none with a nazi great father.

I'm living in Argentina; I was born here, and my family came to this country escaping from the Second World War, hoping for a new beginning. Many times, my country has brought me to tears, knowing what we were and what we have become through years of populism. I've made my life comfortable enough to pursue and compete in the global IT market, knowing that my country alone is not enough. Although I've never physically left my country, I found a way to work from home. Some time ago, a Canadian friend asked me why I don't leave if I have opportunities to do so. I simply answered, 'What will happen to my country if good people just leave and don't fight for the future?' This is the first time in my 45 years of life that I have hope.

It’s worse than “do nothing”. They actually do something. Government has one tool; violence and the threat of violence.
Other words, the power to destroy. Every time a government bureaucrat does something, away from the only job of government; protecting people from force. They destroy and crush economic prosperity.
Government has one power. To crack down on criminals. When they want to do something. They create a law and use it as a hammer.
It’s why I don’t seek promotion at work. I don’t want to pay 40% tax on my income. Add all the other taxes. I end up working for the government like a slave and they keep most of my income, which is my time.

Not really, most people i've met who complain are the ones who say he ruined us because "he got rid of most subsidies and price regulations". They've gotten used to 20+ years of the regulations that led us to such advanced levels of poverty. They've been brainwashed into thinking we were having a relatively good time because everything was subsidized and nobody had to negotiate their pay, as the unions would raise the minimum pay once or twice a year for these past 24 years. People have grown complacent and dependent of the government and all the corrupt union and politicians ruining our economy. People were seriously complaining about the price of public transport! They just couldn't comprehend everything else went up 1000 times in the last 24 years, but the bus, train and subway tickets only went up by 100 times. "I won't be able to ride the public transport to work anymore!" They still after everything that's been said, demonstrated and lived, they still refuse to see the reality of groceries being 1000 times more expensive than 20 years ago, but the minimum wage has only gone up 140 times. Their brains just can't comprehend the crude reality that we're living and they want to go back to the previous model that was leading us to bankrupcy, another crash worse than 2002 because this time there wasn't enough money in the banks to seize and pay all our debts.
People over here are absolutely fucking retarded.

So, to be clear. Argentina is running at 276.2% inflation and 100% interest rates (as of February) Buses, trains, banks, hospitals, and other public sector workers are engaged in a general strike as there wages aren’t keeping up with this massive inflation and I expect in the next few years will stop working altogether. Presumably the aim is to privatise these institutions.
I’m not saying his policies won’t work, what I am saying, is we haven’t given it enough time to see if they work, and so far they’ve hurt a lot of people and services. This is the trade off when trying to make a sudden shock shift in economic policy.

What's gonna happen next? The Argentinians won't be able to afford imported food, medicine & goods (computers, phones, agricultural equipment..) Argentinian food producers (meat) may prefer exporting than selling locally.
Educated people (doctors, nurses, engineers,...) will emigrate abroad & might never return.
The country will suffer of a lack of qualified professionals.
Is that what you want for your own country?
Then may your wish be granted 🤞
