Assassin’s Creed Mirage begins in 9th century Baghdad, during the Islamic Golden Age. Players step into the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a young street thief with a mysterious past. Initially, Basim is introduced as a clever, agile, and resourceful individual, scraping by in the busy, bustling streets of the city. His life changes dramatically when he becomes entangled with the Hidden Ones, a precursor faction to the Assassins.
In this first part of the game, "A New Beginning", Basim’s journey from an ambitious young thief to a skilled member of the Hidden Ones unfolds. As he witnesses injustice and the suffering of the people around him, his desire for something greater pushes him toward the Assassin’s cause.
Throughout this segment, players explore the rich, detailed city of Baghdad, which serves as a backdrop for the unfolding narrative. The game emphasizes the urban environment, focusing on parkour, stealth, and close-quarter combat. Unlike its predecessors, Mirage returns to the series' roots with a strong emphasis on stealth, tactical approaches, and precise assassinations, offering a more intimate and story-driven experience.
The opening sequence introduces Basim’s transformation, guiding players through his early training and the trials that solidify his path toward becoming an Assassin.
