I went to college for a year in long island, took on accounting because of influence from parents. i have always been passionate about film and realized I HAVE to do it. if i do an office job i will die. i am thinking of moving to community college in cali then switching to USC. i stopped everything with film but am picking it up again. i forget most things unfortunately but you are one of my biggest influences freddie and i just wanted to really thank you. I am finally purchasing a new camera and getting back into filming. havent had one since 7th grade. Im rusty on everything but this channel gives me hope and your passion inspires me. I love you freddie wong. :)
+Shutter Authority It's to help with the illusion. Having the actor actually pull something off and discard it means a lot less work for you and a more realistic end product.
Very interesting. You got the pace of the tutorial just right (I don't like slow tutorials ^^) ! I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and I'm glad I found it because I'm always interested in all things film making.
I'm going to be sailing around the world and want to do a documentary and was looking at editing programs so I am doing the trial for Premier Pro and this was in the tutorial. Cool stuff! I am a total n00b when it comes to all this stuff but unless we get sponsors, we won't be able to hire professional film editors. We may not be doing special effects, but I'll be checking out more of your videos just for the fun of it! ^_^
Thanks for sharing! It`s informative and entertaining at the same time... 7 dislikes from people who would never roto anything in their entire lives... ever.
Basically to do this; you need some kind of mask reference (latex mask) SAME ANGLE. LIKE SAME ANGLE NO CHANGES NO CAMERA MOVEMENT. CANVAS. Then you manually rotoscope because Automatic is lame (You can do it to make it easier but it lame) That's pretty much it. Then you use the head you want to replace for the new head (50% opacity to see compare motion; then 100% when done) that will be underneath that head which follows the actual mask and then utilizing the Puppet-Warp Tool while it is being manually tracked/parented/manually following the shape of the actual mask. With motion blur on for cleaner look.
Hi thank you for this tip, people don't understand it was a quick way to doing it and if you work a little more on it I'm sure you can get good results. I have question, what sort of mouse is it ? I want buy the same if it can help for video editing, rotoscoping etc ! someone have an idea ?
Great tutorial as always! May I ask what screen recording software you used? (I'm using Fraps, but it doesn't seem to properly support windows 10 desktop.)
Yeah pretty sure I found you through some post on reddit in blender or simulated or something. Just getting into learning Blender myself, so it's always great finding stuff that inspires you to buckle down and learn.
I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate rotoscoping with the passion that burns as hot as seven suns after whatever kind of crossfit training a sun might do.... oh but when I'm able to hire a minion to do all of my roto for me...
You should make the BTS for Mexican Standoff watchable again. It currently isn't working on your website, and it's totally missing from RUclips. Please? Pretty please? I want to watch it again...
If the mask that she is removing (the real latex one) is a latex mask of the actual target face it might make it easier to accomplish. But your method works great, so never mind! JW3HH
This by far the most relatable tutorial I've ever seen
That update tho
I swear that little huah he does after Lauren takes of the mask is amazing
+Jamershun lol
Wow. I just watched this 20 min vid without even knowing how to begin with this stuff. But still it was worth it.
+Ryan Stoffelen Its always good to learn new stuff.
It's quite easy
Mathias Lui just takes a long time
Same here. No idea how to do it, but fascinating nonetheless.
Step one, update After Effects. Got it.

i love how his glasses are morphed away aswell in the begínning scene
the most simple way of doing it
*exhibits years of experience in rapid and sometimes improvised steps for 20 minutes*
It feels nice to have Freddie do a tutorial again, it made me so nostalgic xD
This was very good, informative and also entertaining throughout. Five Sandwiches out of Five.
Smith D. Murphy I'm hungry for a sandwich now... thanks a lot
Great effect! I'm would it be possible to do this without actually having a dummy mask? It's essentially for reference right?
+Shutter Authority It's to help with the illusion. Having the actor actually pull something off and discard it means a lot less work for you and a more realistic end product.
***** I understand. Thanks! btw I do a lot of vfx too. Would love some feedback.
Oh ok but i will do a tutorial video if you still dont have ae? Why dont you just use pr and do it right now essentially!!
do you need to be naked in front of the green screen to pull this off?
Not necessarily, no. But if you want to you can.
+RocketJump Film School Yeah... but with him naked... it's now even more, harder. ;)
+Lizzam Abdul Latiff having this video up allows him to easily convince hot chick extras that they need to be nude for any special FX
When you want to reply a 5 months ago comment but your fingers were like "NO"
we have same pfps lmao
So much work for 3 seconds - always amazed and feeling sorry for the hordes of roto artists out there 🙈
Very helpful. Great to watch you work in a real world way. Wasn't able to follow all of it but gave me a sense of what is involved. Daunting.
Very interesting. You got the pace of the tutorial just right (I don't like slow tutorials ^^) ! I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and I'm glad I found it because I'm always interested in all things film making.
I'm learning AE and its ok but better when you know how to make everything work. I'm overthinking it. Great video
I've been waiting for a tutorial like this forever
!
MORE ROTOSCOPING
Very interesting! I was curious how this specific effect was achieved when the original vid was first released! The sound also helps sell the effect.
I'm a simple guy, I see shirtless Freddie, I press like
I'm a complex guy, I see you, I exit this video.
+fire I'm an intermediate guy, I see you, I continue the video,
+fire I am the only guy here.
Awesome tutorial, going to try this out later this week! Keep them coming!
I'd love some more tutorials in this style!
+Sezze's Stuff same
He is good, because you can't even tell the difference between the two!! #MindBlowing
This gives the word 'masking' a whole new meaning! :D
fantastic video! I'm always amazed at people who are just learning
Cool to see Freddie doing a tutorial!
This was "THE BEST" tutorial i ever saw :)
I give this video 5/5 Freddies
I forgot that this happened! Key and Peele are the greatest ever.

You can use OBS also
Thanks man! Works great :)
Hey! You just reminded me that I haven't seen anything new on your channel in ages, lotsalote!
Thanks man! I'm flattered you'd say that! Haven't really got any projects of my own I'm able to share right now, but perhaps in the near future :)
Yeah pretty sure I found you through some post on reddit in blender or simulated or something. Just getting into learning Blender myself, so it's always great finding stuff that inspires you to buckle down and learn.
Lupin the III pulls off his clothes, and different body shape as well... do that next!
Great vid I've never used AE but it looks neat.
I loved this tutorials!
great tutorial, quick question though, wouldn't it have been a lot easier to shoot both on GS then add a BG plate?
you didnt clean up the last few frames as you said..
Dat laugh in the end xD
This would probably make more sense if I was more proficient with After Effects.
XD I really need to start learning it.
Was not expecting shirtless freddie
ためになる動画をありがとうございます!
日本語字幕もとても役に立ちました。
Thanks for sub-title in French !!
I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate rotoscoping with the passion that burns as hot as seven suns after whatever kind of crossfit training a sun might do.... oh but when I'm able to hire a minion to do all of my roto for me...
for future tutorials it would be great if you gave us the raw footage to follow along:D
+RocketJump Film School can you do the Deadpool eye effect like the CG eyes
I bought a trackball mouse a while back and never used it since. I noticed you were using it in the beginning. What benefit do you get from using it?
great tutorial Mr W,,
youre a funny and clever guy...:D
THERE REALLY NEEDS TO BE A SHADOW FROM THE HOODIE
big up my director
maybe if the actress with the mask also said the lines you said, the chest would move more convincingly before the mask is taken off?
you guys are so wonderful and cool ,i really love your work and all the videos i just subscribed ,can you tell me about the programme app
you have a new subscriber
About time.. :D
You should make the BTS for Mexican Standoff watchable again. It currently isn't working on your website, and it's totally missing from RUclips. Please? Pretty please? I want to watch it again...
+RocketJump Film School Can you please make a video on how to use Premiere Pro for complete beginners. Like myself. Thanks
That's a lot of work... How come my puny phone on apps like SnapChat can do an even better effect on the fly?
i love this, but the way u took the lecture was not understandable
Great video. please do more!
The 12th Day of VFX-mas finally I can rest in peace.
Hi, any reason you didnt use rotobrush? It's by no means perfect, but it's better than rotoscoping frame by frame. It's slower to render though.
This was pretty interesting actually. :P
hahahaha when you said "I think I need to install After Effects" I lost it!!!
thank you, great tutorial.
the KEY ti this is PEELing the mask off correctly
Can anyone tell me why he made the red solid??
//Louis
To get visual feedback on the mask, I suppose.

Some cool tricks you've got there! Care to show us some more? ;)
your effect is better then MI

I have seen you somewhere before, but I don't know where...
I hope I get as good and you and just as fast! Wow
Hilarious! Whats the trackball model?
