Yes do build one and I suggest the PMF over the foam and instead of wood use old plastic cutting boards for attachment points that way it never rots. And if you do fiber glass it needs to be at least 1/4 inch thick other wise it will get cracked time to time, but it is easy to fix. I was gonna do the same setup on my trailer but was worried that the two crossbars would only be 5ft apart with a 12ft yak. I used the green sewer pipe for my runners for the bottom kayak. What are your thoughts?
My cross bars are only 5 ft apart and no issues and I keep 2 kayaks on the top one is a heavy old town and the other is a off brand and then the other old town on the bottom
set screws are a hassle to me. so tiny, and as you mentioned, easy to lose. the rack works well on your trailer. could a lockable plastic storage box work, such as Rubbermaid Action Packer, or do you need a toolbox? Home Depot has the Husky brand.
