The Philosophy Of Style In French New Wave Cinema | Icons & Fashion Impact

- In this video, I will be covering the fashion of The New Wave or La Nouvelle Vague, a French art film movement created by a group of young intellectuals and film critics in Paris during the late 1950-60s. This movement did not only change how films are made, but the editing, visual style, narratives, experience, and look of cinema. The stylization of film did not mean visuals over substance, but rather acknowledging that style by its very nature is a form of substance that is very influential and powerful.
In relation, I'll be covering the iconic looks of these films and by extension the fashion icons in hand with their characters who came out of this movement- such as Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot, and Anna Karina or for men Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon. With an understanding of the origin and style, I'll explain the impact on high fashion design/media as well as the timeless influence on personal style.

Isn’t the Belle Vivier from Roger Vivier and not YSL?
For the film ‘Belle de Jour’ Yves Saint Laurent (the fashion house) created an entire wardrobe for Catherine Deneuve. Roger Vivier made this shoe for YSL on this project. I didn’t mean Yves created and made this specific garment. Often the head of the house does not make every garment- sorry for not being more clear!

The narrator has a very irritating voice,as if she had just woken up and to run in and do the voice over because it had to be given to the distributor in the next 48 hours.
I make these videos entirely myself. I just do my best, no one is perfect at everything
