The P-38 went faster than 414 knts. It went through several improvement and in the process (particularity H variant jump to J were it gained a 10% improvement in all categories .. speed, roll rate, turn rate, climb rate, dive rate, etc...). What is more the max speed is different at different altitudes (for any fighter, not just the P-38.) Both the P-38 J and L, the most numerous variants, had a Maximum Speed of: 414-426 mph, (666 km/h, 360 kn) on Military Power. The J-25 and L variant could turn with a Zero down to it's stalling speed (catch was... the stalling speed of a Zero was lower than a 38 and if you kept 'turning and burning' you would stall out before the Zero... unwise decision!
I was always under the impression that the US and USSR knew nothing about jet aircraft before the Second World War ended, and got the technology from defeated Germany. Also, I feel that it is inevitable that the US military will bring back the F-22 Raptor into production and reinduct it into service. The Raptor is better than the F-35 in its combat functions, and there seems no plan to induct a new fifth generation fighter by the US military authorities. Perhaps, the US authorities are reticent about the F-22 because it is just an interceptor, and more expensive to build, and perhaps to operate than the F-35. However, the F-22 could perhaps be more relevant now to the US, than it would have been before.
7 of the 9 were built and developed by LOCKHEED. Martin had nothing to do with them. Yes they mod the F-16, F-35, and F-22. That's it, nothing more. As for AR-4 Fighting Hawk the original design is the A-4 Skyhawk built by McDonnell Douglas. All the AR-4's were modified by Lockheed- Palmdale. Again Martin Had nothing to do with these aircraft. The F-16 is General Dynamic built. All Martin ever did was buy the names and take the credit.
Those issues as you have stated were the Germans and Italians trying to make it a fighter bomber. It was a pure interceptor. Hanging bombs on it made it over weight and a very hard aircraft to fly.
@@Carrierbuilder406 Kelly Johnson designed the Starfighter as an air superiority fighter, not as an interceptor. The Germans didn't have to "try" and make it a fighter-bomber; the USAF F-104C was already a multi-role fighter-bomber. Yes, the NATO "G" model was 1,000 pounds heavier and was certainly a bit more challenging to fly.
The F-22 is the most beautiful aircraft in history. The F-35 is the cute chubby younger sister. You can have your Spitfire love but this a different century entirely.
Lets say you have a son who is a fighter pilot in the USAF. Lets hope he is flying the F-22 because that is his best chance to come home after the fight. We did a test of 2 F-22's against 8 F-15's The F-22 smoked all 8 F-15's. The F-15 never picked up the F-22 on radar and never sighted it visually. The only thing they heard was the range master telling them they were dead. We did it multiple times. So you really don't know what you are talking about.

The F404 engine definitely burns fuel. It just does not use an afterburner and its exhaust is mixed with cooler air to reduce its heat signature.

Wow the F-22 is quite rare, very few produced compared to, say, the F-16 😩

F117 has no fighter capability, should not be on list. It is a great Attack plane though.

F117 is not a fighter aircraft and I definitely wouldn't consider the f104 one of the best considering all the issues it had.
