      As an owner of a 2021 MT I agree 100%. It looks good in videos but when you see it in person its a lot more aggressive and the paint really pops. The round VW body lines are not nearly as attractive and the Civic SI is a great car, but not even in the same league as the VN. I grew up on VW cars and was a big fanboi, but if you take an objective look at all 3 cars in this review, the only thing that holds the Veloster N back is the Hyundai branding. Its the best car hands down. Unreal handling and acceleration. Hyundai clearly gave this car their very best and it shows. Light clutch, nice, slick shifter. Surprising amounts of low end torque for a 2L engine. VERY surprising. You can just about drive it like a diesel, which is rather nice for the daily driver situation. And that fancy limited slip when you REALLY try to find the limits, not the 7/10ths driving going on here, makes a world of difference. If you were to truly try to find the limits of adhesion around a corner in these cars, while on the throttle, you might see where a real difference has been made with the GTI.

Sold it. Got a 2015 Mercedes C400 3.0L Twin Turbo, 329HP, 354ft/lbs torque, 4Matic AWD, 0-60mph 4.7s, much quieter on highway and everyday driving, ECO and Comfort modes get up to 29mpg. Good prices on used and certified cars. No major problems in 2.5 years now. Yes, maintenance can be high after warranty expires but there's a price to pay for everyday satisfaction at all levels.

    Surprised you found the Civic to have the best ride of the bunch, I would have guessed GTI all day. I had an Mk7 R with the 6 speed, and loved it. Replaced the boat anchor 19" blingy Cadiz wheels with some lightweight 18s and Pilot Super Sports, and it was great. Definitely my favorite-looking car of the bunch as well, but the Velostar would be my pick for sure for something "fun". I've driven the Focus and Fiesta ST and they're both a blast, with the smaller Fiesta being by far the best of the two.
    But, how is the Velostar "only a little more money" than the Civic? That sounds like the logic I'd use-- "If I wanted to save money, I wouldn't be buying a car at all". But from a consumer advice standpoint, $4k on such an inexpensive car is a lot of money-- 16% is nothing to sneeze at.

    • @spencerlorrigan
      @spencerlorrigan 3 года назад +1

      I agree. But then again, the N is about the same price as the Golf. They just couldn't use the civic Type R because it would be too much, so they went with the lower priced SI instead. But if you were just comparing the two, the Veloster turbo would make more sense.

    Never driven a Si or N, but own a Autobahn DSG GTi ( Outside Sales - 18K mi/yr commute) for the last 5 years. Added stage one cobb tune to dsg and motor and I'm plenty happy with how this thing comes alive when I want to thrash it around through some canyons on my way home ( Pre Pandemic) or running around late at night. Getting close to 100k mi on odo so looking for next commuter beast...feels like a waste getting a new GTi or R...maybe I'll just keep it going. MK7 platform with zero major issues so far. Just a new battery and top off the coolant once on top of routine dsg maintenance and oil changes.

    Of course it makes sense to compare stock to stock for these videos, but the VW does have warranty keeping tuning available from APR that dealerships will support and/or install. It's called APR+ and milder than a typical "stage 1" tune. It puts the power more on par with the Veloster. I don't think Honda or Hyundai have that.

      Hyundai seems to not care about simple piggybacks and very simple bolt ons like intakes and exhausts.
      Plus, they have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on the car.
