I had the honor of seeing Renee perform Thais at the Met and it was amazing! She is my idol and I would love to be able to have the presence and talent that she delivers on stage in all her roles. I study voice classically in hopes of one day being able to perform in roles such as this at the LA Opera and elsewhere. Keep on singing beautifully Renee! I'll always be listening. :)
I am finally starting to love Fleming. Her book The Inner Voice is giving me more insight into her. I love her voice in this SOOOO much more than in other pieces. :D Brava!!!
You prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the password. I would love any help you can give me
Just heard her in recital last night at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. She was subtle and gently wove the listener into her spell. To me, she will always be Rusalka.
Exquisite! THE best soprano, at least in the USA today, Her trills are perfect here. yes. love her...but.... what was "up" with her whole "thing" last year about how she kept saying she was "nervous" about singing the National Anthem at the Superbowl? PUH-LEEZE... was this a Pub. stunt gone bad or what? Personally, I could care less about football.. but tuned in to hear her. I laughed SO hard when the sportscasters in the booth said something to the effect about "wow, that lady can really sing! " uh-duh....ser-puh-RIZE!!! bwahahaha...p.s. THIS is positively beautiful. Brava Renee.
Most opera singers experience anxiety about performance at certain moments of their career. It's not necessarily that they won't get through it, but whether they will meet expectations.
Netrekko is going to her 40th birthday, very soon.. Renée sings everything well. her range is enormous she is a great artist, Angela has a emotional voice, great in Rondine, very good Anna may be better in bel canto, for now. l love all. They are beautiful women.
this is my roll out of bed aria. i lipsync to renee, leontyne, etc., while looking at the mirror dressing up. no wonder it takes two hours to get ready.
that's awesome! yeah, she's a goddes, I know haha, I saw her 3 days ago, 2 days ago again, yesterday I couldn't, but I'll see her again in a few days or maybe tomorrow, she's the best singer and an awesome person and if you know how to get deep to her she'l teach you a lot of important things!
Act II, Scene 1 of the French opera, Thaïs by Jules Massenet Libretto : Louis Gallet Role : Thaïs, a courtesan, Setting : Thaïs's house, Alexandria, Egypt, late 14th century Synopsis : Thaïs sits alone in her room at her mirror, gazing into it. She worries about getting old and asks her mirror to tell her that she is still beautiful and that she will be beautiful until the day she dies. Voice Part : soprano Fach : lyric soprano Range : D4 to D6. Tessitura : F4 to G5
@primohomme I agree. while any (trained) soprano should be able to vocalize a high D in a warm up (in fact, most will have high Fs and above), a spinto or dramatic soprano won't always have them in performance quality.

Sure I know Gheorghiu saw her live a few times and she has a beautiful voice. Nice Italian way of singing(great way to move public), but not the THE VOICE Renee has with full-bodied lyricism and also the high pianissimo singing. This full range is rare for a soprano, as you baritone426, being educated, surely know.Netrebco is impressive, but like you (17y?), a bit young, she's promising thu but not whatso ever ready for something like thais. Did you see the live recording here on youtube?
ummm....how about mariella devia's breath technique? she's a senior citizen who can still sing violetta, elvira, bolena very well. i believe she dropped lucia from her rep recently.
She isn't terrible. but she has a very closed sound to her voice. listening to her makes my throat hurt. I honestly don't know how she can sound like that. There are also a few seams in her voice. I don't think that her voice was meant to be great. She just doesn't have the natural beauty in her color. She works hard, and I can appreciate that. I just don't get all this Renee Fleming worship. She isn't anything spectacular. Not by any means. But of course, you are entitled to disagree.
@chaconazo7 She works very hard at making a big enough sound... This french stuff is fine for her, but Traviata... UH UH.. she just lacks enough voice .. and especially ease in the upper register to make that a role that is right for her.. I agree with you.. This is a lovely voice but lacks power.
she hits the note, but she lacks of power in her voice. I've heard her live and sadly you can't hear her unless she is singing in front a microphone. Nothing like the old school or german or european singers.
DIVINE RENEE FLEMING....THE INCARNATION OF CLASS AND TALENT...WHAT INTENSITY/FRAGILITY/EMOTION...RENEE FLYING HIGH...

Wonderful. One of the greatest opera singer ever. I love Miss Fleming!!!

beautiful as usual...even the prononciation is very good..and it is not easy ! great voice and artist..
ce timbre si pur, son élégance, la souplesse de cette voix et bien sûr, son mémorable aigu final, font de ce document un témoignage historique !
She, Reneé Fleming is the best Thais of all time !
Try Zeani.

oh then I'm sorry!
gosh I'm her huge fan too, I saw her these days in person and she's a goddess of music and as a person even more *__*
OMG, This is a new kind of beauty from her.. beautiful hair, haha.. and needless to say, scrumptious voice :)
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU--HER VOICE IS/was
SO LUSCIOUS--PERFECT FOR THIS !!!!
Just heard her in recital last night at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. She was subtle and gently wove the listener into her spell. To me, she will always be Rusalka.

I was actually replying to someone else's post. I'm a huge fan of Renee Fleming and of this recording.
It's ironic we're so led to say how beautiful she is. The title of this aria translates "Tell me that I'm beautiful."
l love both, they cannot be compared , so different.
Netrekko is going to her 40th birthday, very soon.. Renée sings everything well. her range is enormous she is a great artist, Angela has a emotional voice, great in Rondine, very good Anna may be better in bel canto, for now. l love all.
They are beautiful women.
Angela is a wonderful person. She has taken care of Alagna's daughter with a maternal care.
she's the best soprano at this moment and het Thais is SUPERB!
Belle talentueuse , fantastique , madame Fleming , je vous adore!!
Recordando una belleza
Maravillosa interpretación de Renée Fleming..¡¡
Non credo si possa fare meglio! Una thais indimenticabile.
She is beautiful.

Insuperable. Realment insuperable.
Written as an option at the end of the piece one may sing "b" flat or "D". Here, Ms. Fleming sings the "D"
beautiful Opera voice
magnifique!!
(cerise sur le gateau: dans un français parfait :) )
indeed!

ah i know! since i started voice lessons i can not stand to hear contemporary.
@baritone426 Angela.. cannot hold a candle to Renee.. Sorry.

Actually operatic technique is NOT based on opinion but cold facts. And Netrebko's technique is riddled with flaws.
Don't think so. Her voice is too dark for this piece. My opinion though
(The down thumbs was already there.)
Is that the critique to Renée? I mean the unaudibility?
ummm....how about mariella devia's breath technique? she's a senior citizen who can still sing violetta, elvira, bolena very well. i believe she dropped lucia from her rep recently.

Shut the f@#$ up dude! You sing the piece the way it's supposed to be. Let's see what you're voice is made up of!
... and the rest is crap?
wrong
I don't like Fleming at all and I don't know why...
@chaconazo7 She works very hard at making a big enough sound... This french stuff is fine for her, but Traviata... UH UH.. she just lacks enough voice .. and especially ease in the upper register to make that a role that is right for her.. I agree with you.. This is a lovely voice but lacks power.
Ah, but Renee is a Mezzo. CHristine is meant to be a dramatic coloratura.
she hits the note, but she lacks of power in her voice. I've heard her live and sadly you can't hear her unless she is singing in front a microphone. Nothing like the old school or german or european singers.
