Zoomers really are oblivious to the colonization of the internet. Using one single example does not suffice for an argument.
Twitter/X is definitely an exception that proves the rule, because it got bought by Elon Musk, who now uses it as a megaphone to promote his other businesses, at least one of which *is* public, and as a political cudgel to manipulate public opinion to enrich himself. It’s losing millions of dollars a day by itself, but it’s made the man who owns it *rich enough to buy the US government* Twitter didn’t stop being profitable, it simply became part of the Elon Musk brand, and its own profitability became irrelevant. If anything it’s the ultimate example of what Bo is talking about: every company is beholden to its shareholders at the cost of everything else. Twitter sacrificed literally everything for the benefit of one specific shareholder.
