Any Oingo Boingo fan who has scoured the internet for some lovely hidden nuggets may have come across a collection called Forbidden Boingo: a collection of unreleased tracks, demos, live songs, etc. that won't be found on any officially released compilation. The tracks weren't all great quality, but then again, they were bootlegs recorded from tapes, vinyl, cds and such, so what did you expect? This channel has done well to polish up those same tracks I came across back then, make them sound even better than before and reintroduce them for any Boingoloids (not sure if anyone is still using that term) to enjoy! Hats of to ya, guys! :)
It's unfortunate that the remasters coming for the early Oingo albums by Rubellan Remasters won't have these songs, they couldn't get permission to press the unreleased material :(
@@kalozalt There was already that problem with some of the "Best Of" compilations: Best O' Boingo was released by MCA and had all their stuff from 1984-1990, while Skeletons In The Closet was released by A&M and covered 1980-1983. Definitely not the first time we saw two different compilations for the same band. It happens.
That was me haha. I was part of this OB group a looooooooooooong time ago and i'd find uploaded demos of songs and such. I thought I had EVERYTHING but this channel proves me wrong lol
I really think that they should do what the Beatles did with there anthology albums, have officially released demo’s, unreleased stuff, live stuff, hell! Even old Mystic Nights stuff. Just basically take this entire Channel and make it an official album or box set or something. I feel like people would probably listen to that.
@@OingoBoingoTapes I would love if the masters were still around, but IIRC Oingo Boingo was one of the bands whose masters were housed in the UMG building and likely lost in the fire. There's always a chance someone else still has higher quality recordings than what's currently available though.
It was so gutting to read how their masters probably ended up. It would have affected all the unreleased studio songs for sure. But hopefully the demo tapes were spared, apparently Danny recorded most demos with the band at his home studio, on his own time, so here's hoping he still has those. And if we're really lucky copies of the master album tapes do survive.

You're both exactly right, I hadn't heard it that way before. Funny how just that little difference in the golden goose verse adds another hidden layer to the song, Danny was brilliant at that
I love both arrangements of this track. Good thing this earlier version floats around in better quality than some of their other demos/rough mixes, so it definitely gets a good amount of plays from me(the Only A Lad outtakes seem to have the most fortune when it comes to sound).

Neil has actually cited Oingo Boingo, DEVO, and XTC as inspirations

It's more about the loss of childhood innocence, or perhaps losing old friends to addictions and wars, or even how dark the original fairy tales were. Disney has really twisted the original tales into something wholesome and cheery, despite the source material being dark and morbid. But to say that this song is about a culture war makes no sense. I, and I assume most people, interpret this song as the protagonist unable to deal with world conflicts of that time and the loss of childhood innocence; your old friends have gotten addicted to drugs or are about to die in a war.
Love the raw energy of this version, something I always felt the '88 "Alive" version lacked.
