« It was getting late. Well - we were late, back with Rana from another recording outside of town. The 4 dervishes were waiting in front of our hotel, ready to bring us to the 13th century Zazadin caravanserai for an improvised film. But we were missing a Ney player - how could we record in the legendary town of Rumi without his favorite flute instrument?
Then someone mentioned Mustafa. I didn’t know Mustafa was a great player, I only knew he was the busiest man in town at the moment, taking care of his own Hiçhane place, a hub for alternative everything during the Seb-I Arus week. In a magic twist, he got ready in 5 minutes, we all boarded the van without really having any clear ideas of what would happen, and off we went for a piece of Sufi cinema.
The light was disappearing quickly, we had chances only for one take - my favorite kind of cinema after all. In a strange way someone, maybe me, mentioned the ending sequence of Tarkovski’s Nosthalgia - the very long movement of the main character with a candle. Rana had a candle, there was an obvious choreography in the air, and we just had to catch it. Nasim, Rana’s cousin, joined on the Daf, and we started to roll. Rana, then the dervishes, then the entire space started to turn in a majestic twist of the divine. The candle was still lit, the ceremony was done. »

place was completely nothingness of the anatolian inner heart. was first trade center at seljuk empire. it because on the long way of silk road.
lots of memories lived thousand years. voices.
best place to ‘hear the voice’, which means ‘sema’;
actual meaning transformed it become 'whirling'/ 'spinning around' it was 'hear the voice' word of 'semi' coming from arabic,hear it. and mere deep maybe. not easy possible to hear voice. in this age and attitude. (talking myself)
but i believe so we changed/traded something with beautiful souls there. im hoping we are gonna hear one day all together.
it was necessary to be there. thank you my lovely dear vincent. 🫶🏽
