Tanto, whose real name is Kris Paranto, was on the Shawn Ryan Show. If you're interested it's an almost 5 hour long interview, episode 153. Those long format interviews really get into some personal stuff. There's a few things they had to change for the movie but as a whole, it sounds like the movie is very accurate.

Great reaction Biss like always. I was stationed in Afghanistan when this happen, as a Veteran im still pissed over this!!!! They abandoned them!!!!
A lot of people involved in the American political spectrum did not want this movie to be released and went on the attack on it as soon as it was.
There was a lot of heat in particular to the stand down order shown in the film. The actual Tanto responded to this with, "We were told to 'stand down'. Those words were used verbatim-100 percent. If the truth of it affects someone's political career? Well, I'm sorry. It happens."
When Congress interviewed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, they asked her what she did. She said she went home. The congressman asked "alone?" She laughed and said yes alone! These were her people under attack!
Scary how many people value their careers over lives.

In hindsight, are there some things the Obama Administration and Clinton could have done differently? Sure. For example, the State Department denied funding for increased security at the compounds previously. Did this event need TEN different investigations, six by GOP committees? No. That was largely done for political theater, and keep this "scandal" in the news.

Basically from what I've read, it was systemic incompetence on the part of the US State Dept. that prevented those assets being sent, right? Correct, pertinent information wasn't processed quickly and intelligently, or sent upstairs by key personnel in the State Department?
To add, were those key State Department officials/employees fired? Were they career employees or political appointees? I'm genuinely curious, as I'm not an American and I couldn't find any information about the corrective measures implemented after the incident.

If you want to know more about this, check out Mark Geist 'Oz', Kris Paronto 'Tanto', and Sarah Adam's interview on the Shawn Ryan Show Podcast. Oz and Tanto generally talk about what happened before, during and immediately after the incident and also delve into the failures and lack of accountability of the State Dept, Govt and CIA in particular. Sarah meanwhile is more focused on the intelligence aspect and shares some details about how she is working independently to hunt down the perpetrators (which no administration has done effectively in her words).
Kris has been an acquaintance of mine for a while. While we have never personally met (which is a pity), I have talked online with Kris a bit about the entire incident. He's a cool guy IMO, very laid back, wellspoken and pretty open about his experience in Benghazi.

This is BS, Obama was in DC on Sep 11 2012, he visited the Pentagon for a 9/11 Memorial Observance in the morning, then went to Walter Reed to visit Wounded Warriors and their families and had a late afternoon meeting with Leon Panetta in the Oval Office. On Sep 12th he gave a Rose Garden speech on the attack before flying to Las Vegas for a previously scheduled campaign event and he didn't meet up with Beyoncé until Sep 18th in NYC. Now you can certainly question why he was not in the situation room during the events in Benghazi or why he traveled for a campaign event the next day but lying about what he did is just dumb.

      @@lvrplfc4l ... IndyStar
      12:22PM May 8, 2014.
Former National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor made news when he recently told Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier, “Dude, this was like two years ago.” Vietor’s juvenile comment regarding the Benghazi terrorist attack plunged jaws from coast to coast.
With somewhat less fanfare, Vietor also revealed that “I was in the Situation Room that night.” Asked if Obama were there, too, Vietor replied: “No.” He then challenged Baier saying, “The fact that your network at one time reported that he watched video feed of the attack as it was ongoing is part of what I think has been a pattern of inaccurate -”
Baier interrupted: “Where was the president?”
“In the White House,” Vietor said, but “not in the room I was in.” He added: “I don’t have a tracking device on him in the residence.”
So, where was Obama and what was he doing while al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists were busy killing four American public servants?
      Nobody knows.
“We’ve got no info. on the whereabouts of the president the night of the Benghazi attacks,” one top House staffer probing this matter told me. “Wish we did.”
“Over a year and a half has passed since the terrorist attacks, and the American people still do not have an accounting of your activities during the attack,” GOP senators Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and John McCain of Arizona wrote Obama on May 2. “Mr. President, can you now confirm that Mr. Vietor’s account of your absence in the White House Situation Room is accurate?”
One would expect that Obama followed the real-time drone images of the horrific onslaught as they poured into the Situation Room, just as he famously viewed live video of the Navy SEALs’ Osama bin Laden raid.
But beyond just watching, why was Obama not huddled with his advisors, organizing a robust counterattack, ordering a surgical rescue operation, or at least scrambling fighter jets to make noise and drop flares overhead? Perhaps the “spontaneous demonstrators” - who just happened to bring mortar launchers to the U.S. compound - might have had trouble fatally targeting their volleys against Americans if they also had to eye American military aircraft. Instead, these militant-Islamic killers calmly aimed their weapons at Americans and murdered them without the distraction of the U.S. armed forces.
As Jack Cashill recounted for AmericanThinker.com on May 5, then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and U.S. Army General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saw Obama at a White House meeting previously scheduled for 5:00 PM, about 80 minutes into the attack. They discussed the still-devolving calamity for 15 to 30 minutes. As Panetta later told a Senate hearing, Obama “directed both myself and General Dempsey to do everything we need to do to try to protect the lives” in Benghazi. They then returned to the Pentagon to handle the crisis.
According to the House Armed Services Committee’s February 2014 Majority Interim Report: Benghazi Investigation Update, Panetta and Dempsey “testified they had no further contact with the President, nor did Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ever communicate with them that evening.”
So, while al-Qaida-affiliated terrorists slaughtered U.S. ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service officer Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, Obama evidently failed to drop by the Situation Room - where even Tommy “Dude” Vietor knew to present himself. As the attack roared on until about 11:15 PM Washington time, neither Panetta nor Dempsey heard from Obama.
Aloof and detached, the commander-in-chief was elsewhere in the White House. Perhaps something was more pressing than preventing - or at least observing - the assassinations of four American government officials at the hands of al-Qaida franchisees.
With any luck, Congress’s brand-new select committee on Benghazi - chaired by tungsten-tough former federal prosecutor and current U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C. - will exhume the answer to this question: What did the president know and where the hell was he?

One of the many "military movies" a friend suggested for me... we still quote the "You see the drone? No? That's all right, becasue the drone sees you." sentences :D
Also, the cast was great, the action was quite good and the "near-desert-military-vibe" was really caught. I'd pick out Toby Stephens, (who played Glen Doherty). I really like him because of the show *Black Sails* - it's literally a 5 star show with EPIC story, and probably the only one in the pirate-genre with well written dialgoues and character developments. He also played a main character in the show *Lost In Space* .
Well said: "sad and beautiful". It's good to see something like this from Michael Bay - most people only know him because of the Transformers movies and the memes about explosions, but he created this movie and Black Sails too (with some other writers and directors).
It's not stereotypically "edgy" when it comes to military behaviour, and the characters are layered. It's not extremely rare in this genre, but it always took special actors and directors to create movies like this.
Edit: It's sad to realize one of the "worst truths"... that soldiers who are loyal to an ideology or country, are just "meat" for many governments. They are sent to somewhere with a task. They do their best, thinking that they are doing good and their bosses are politicans are behind them, providing support etc.
And in most cases it's not true. Those people who send others into war zones couldn't care less about them... and they never take responsibility for the lives lost during these missions.

Most people think the scene where the body is dropped from the roof is disrespectful and cold-blooded but tactically it's the only thing to do...either that or leave him behind (if you remember the Blackwater convoy that was ambushed in Fallujah in 2004 and how their bodies were treated by the enemy, dropping him once to not leave him behind is the more humane choice). In such a scenario every second counts, he was already dead his comrades were not and were still in the middle of fighting for their lives and the lives of all the people inside the building against an unrecognizable and unpredictable enemy.

49:38 thats not Aluminium foil its a mylar survival/emergency blanket and it basically reflects infrared heat coming from your body back towards your body to keep you warm and in that specific case its being used to keep his body warm so he doesn't going into shock from blood loss. It doesn't seem like something so thin would work but it does and its so good that you can actually use those to hide from thermal cameras like those used in military and civilian thermal sights and military drones and they're insanely cheap like less than $5 or about the cost of a energy drink.
And yeah blood loss makes you insanely cold, the short version is I lost a LOT of blood multiple times over the course of a couple weeks and it took months before I felt even remotely normal again and usually I feel hot even at room temp but after losing that blood I would go sit in my car when it was like 100f or maybe like 35-40c without the ac or anything in direct sunlight aka my car was about as hot as a sauna and I would do that regularly just to warm myself up for months after it happened.
Long version/backstory I had to have 3 surgeries in 1 on my nose to fix my ruptured eardrum (long story) and it involved basically cutting a bunch of stuff/muscle/Cartlidge/flesh out of my nose and sinus area and the doctor messed up and I lost a lot of blood during surgery then a week later when I was about to leave for the follow up appointment for him to remove the brace inside my nose (plastic thing the size of a pinky finger and really thin - those sucked) I was mid conversation and felt something drip then looked down and my nose just started gushing to the point of freaking out the person I was talking to and by the time I got to my car my hand was literally overflowing with blood and then I had to drive myself about 30 mins to the doctor while gushing everywhere and I lost at least 12oz/350ml/a beer can worth of blood by the time I got there and probably lost at least another half beer can while he attempted to stop it 3 different times...
The same thing happened again a week later when he removed the Rhino nose splint/stent thing (not the same brace as earlier) that was essentially a pinky finger size balloon with hemostatic (blood clotting agent) gauze wrapped around it and aired up to the point it was the worst pain I've ever felt by far and again I lived with it for a week and the painkillers didn't even touch the pain so I had to resort to taking 3x the normal dose of them plus a metric fuckton of kratom (basically legal opiate you can buy like tobacco) and smoking the ganja just to be able to sleep at all which still only happened when I literally passed out from exhaustion.
So yeah don't rupture your eardrum
And I'm also saying all that because that pain was nothing in comparison to what those dudes felt and had to fight through and its insane how tough those dudes are and I bet they didn't accept much if any painkillers because they needed clear heads to fight through it so again those dudes were of another caliber all together

I absolutely love this movie, but my God, it pisses me off. The way our leaders just abandoned those people, left them all to die, absolutely burns me up. This is the movie that radicalized me, showed me just how bad our American leaders really are. And my God, they are bad! Like, how does the most powerful country on Earth have such terrible leadership? It baffles the imagination.
BTW, your favorite character, Chris "Tanto" Paronto, came home and spoke a lot about everything that happened. Our politicians didn't like him very much because he exposed a lot of things they did not want the public to know about.

16:00 There are differing views on why Gaddafi hired only female guards also unofficially called the ‘Amazonian Guard’. Some say it was because he believed Arab men would find it hard to shoot at women or not fight them (because death at the hands of the women is like a disgrace or something. Same reason ISIS feared the Kurdish YPJ). Majority believe that he liked to surround himself with young women hence the female guards. There have been allegations that Gaddafi and even other powerful members of his regime regularly SA’ed the female guards and leading to them being also referred to as “Gaddafi’s Harem”.

Appreciate your comment that outsiders can't "save" and reform a country to be free and democratic and (traditional) western liberal if its people don't want that. Reminds me of trying to save an addict - they won't really change until THEY want to change. You can't force it on them.

Benghazi doesnt start to cool off until after October 1st usually. Likely it is not even as cold as 20°C.
Rather I’m thinking the foil blanket is more to help to regulate the body. With the tourniquet applied, you are limiting the circulatory system. Sure you can still be bleeding out but you dont want secondary complications like going into a further state of shock.
I'm sure a medic could explain this better. But your body will shut down functionality to try to preserve more critical organs. Keep the body artificially warmer than it can maintain is probably prolonging treatment.

Air support from US bases in Italy and US naval ships in the Mediterranean could have easily reached Benghazi during the attack, but Obama went to bed while the attack was still occurring because he had to get up early to go to a fundraiser the next morning. So, he left the US response to Hillary and Panetta to figure out. Hillary said she was going to get the Libyan government's permission to fly US aircraft in their airspace and then she disappeared for the rest of the night, and Panetta did nothing because he never heard back from Hillary. It was a typical display of incompetence by liberals when what they're supposed to doing really matters.

@47:44, even if they had mortars, the annex wouldnt have clear targets. They would be firing blind into the surrounding neighbourhood.
Maybe they would get lucky with a round or two but need to fire 100 or more before getting a hit on actual attackers.
Even when high altitude UAV can fire onto known high value targets (with an entire network of surveillance), the UAV' ‘precision’ ordnance often claims noncombatant lives. Maybe there are some figures (more as estimates) on how many accidental deaths happen. Yet UAV strikes in urban landscapes are not without risk.
Blind mortar launches would be well beyond gross negligence. A great way to recruit tomorrow’s terrorists.

You're 100% correct, there's an old saying, "Don't talk about politics & religion." especially with friends & even now more so with how toxic the internet is. I'm a proud American BUT I also acknowledge all the terrible things my country has done, especially in the beginning. Blindly following & hiding behind the flag is cowardice, we need to hold our leaders to a higher standard & remain accountable for our past & our future. All countries & all leaders need to be & do better, we're all in this together & the sooner everyone gets on board the better the world will be for everyone. It's just a movie, "loosely based" on a true story & many, many mistakes were made. But it's a solid film & just because you liked it doesn't mean you're taking sides.

@2:04 I'm fairly sensitive to how legible certain fonts are and times required to read. There is no shame to pause through text that doesnt seem to be thought out how and who are reading.
Intelligence is measured in several ways. Including reading at a different rates isn’t the only measure of you as a person. Surely the persons who selected font and timing didn’t really consider how accessible this would be in real time.
