We had to darkside my buddy's Yamaha Stratoliner in an emergency on my New England Loop ride last fall. It definitely slowed the handling and "pushed" the bike. That alone is enough reason for me never to darkside, but there are others... Good luck with your's.
I've heard that insurance companies are aware of darksiding and that in the case of an accident that happens with a car tire on a motorcycle they will deny any claims.
Put a Arroyo grand 2. 205 50 17 on my Yamaha warrior . I checked the diameter against the Bridgestone and perilli I had on previously. That gives rotations per mile. Arroyo was fewer so uses less ram. Stock was 200 50 17. Didnt want to go bigger as that could cause clearance problems. Not on sides because I've got lots of clearance but didn't want to hit fender on bumps when shocks bottom out. If I could have I'd prefer a 225 50 17 for even fewer revs. Tire weighs only about 6. Or 7 pounds more than bike tire so on a cruiser it doesn't matter. Stops better handles almost the same as bike tire and after getting used to it no big deal. Some crappy bike tires handle worse. No worse than stock Bridgestone. I run 41 psi. Cushy ride and good on corners. 3 to 4 times the contact patch so brakes much better. It always bothered me at stop signs an lights because 2 inch patch would slide even with little brake applied especially in the wet. Just make sure to use the right tire. No squared off edges or really cheap tires because the rubber is cheap and doesn't grip. I read about Arroyo grand 2 and it was rated good on wet and dry. Good handling and few complaints. Even some expensive tires aren't good in rain etc. Long mileage usually have harder rubber and less traction. Same with bike tires. Read reviews like I did and go from there. I'm satisfied with the ride and after 4000 miles and a worn out perilli I'm looking forward to many miles
The ignorance of how free markets work in a capitalist economy is astounding! The President has no influence over prices. Petroleum (gasoline) prices are set in free markets. Geopolitical forces, OPEC production limits (especially) in combination with other market forces determine prices. Did you know oil company profits have been at record levels for several years? How? Companies set the prices without political influence. Give it a rest guys. Bullshit draws flies.

Sorry but recommending this is totally insane. Car tire/wheel beads is totally different from M/C tire/wheel beads, car tires sidewalls are designed thinner. The motorcycle tires have a lot more weight, stiffer sidewalls and a bead actually designed for MC wheels. It's going to corner like an old Goodyear SpeedGrip in the sharp mountain curves...which is deadly IME..Try coming down the mountain in Cherokee at 60-75 mph and see if you still like it. .Fact: You're asking for trouble, especially if you ever experience a flat tire with that car tire. And if you have an accident, your insurance company is likely to deny your claim if they find out about the car tire on your bike. Good luck, you're going to need it.
Actually I was up that way a few weeks ago in the NC and TN mountains and it didn’t feel any different to me and for the past 12,000 miles it has seemed to work pretty good so I respectfully disagree but thank you for your post. @@fireball1322 Yes, there is a reason, but do you have darkside experience? Your family can work 4 generations for Dunlop, but that don't make somebody a daily rider with year off darkside experience. I follow every conversation and the answer is always the same: no experience, pure assumptions.
Dark side... yes it "works". There is no redundancy on the bead. In the corners you have to continuously countersteer so really the handling is shit. Also the number one problem is if (or when) you get into an accident and the insurance finds you were riding dark side. You are screwed. So if you want to put at risk your 40,000 + bike to save a little bit of money then go for it. Personally I will never put at risk my ride to save a small amount of money.

Got it done. Works well
@@rrkr3298ify awesome
Now go with a 160/60 on the front. It's AMAZING
Interesting thank you
commander 2 is a very good tire but 23000 miles i got to question that
First commended 2 I got 21,000 miles out of it. Blew my mind also. I get 12-13k on my softail max. Not sure why so much more on a heavier bagger
@@YogisCycleService got an 05 venture why yamaha put a 15" mini bike tire on the rear makes no sense going to try this car tire thing someday and see how it goes

@@YogisCycleService ok
Man I don't understand how anyone could possibly get 20,000 + miles on a rear tire. I get consistently around 6,000 on rear
I have a 2019 FLHTK (ultra limited ) ride on average 10-15k per year I run a tire till it’s completely wore out and get anywhere between 17k -22k on my rear tire
@@silverfoxstacker1588 I get about the same mileage (13-17k) running Dunlop 402 on my 92 FLHTC. The original Dunlops in 92 only last 10k. Going to try the elites next time.
I wish u would have tried hard breaking to see how well it slowed down.
It performs as a normal tire. I have 10,000 miles roughly on it now and it’s fine
CT's stop shorter distance than MC tires.
My question is if a Michelin last 23-25k and a car tire with a compound that is of a sport type gets around 30-32k why take the chance. Anyone running a hard rubber 50-60k mileage tire on a bike is crazy imho. I guess if one was running just interstate highways no curves maybe but still a no go for me.🤣
22 to25 i would love to see that try 15 to 17 miles not km
Good luck
We had to darkside my buddy's Yamaha Stratoliner in an emergency on my New England Loop ride last fall. It definitely slowed the handling and "pushed" the bike. That alone is enough reason for me never to darkside, but there are others... Good luck with your's.
Did you have a run flat tire they have a heavier side wall.
William Klump 😂😂😂😂😂
I've heard that insurance companies are aware of darksiding and that in the case of an accident that happens with a car tire on a motorcycle they will deny any claims.
You heard wrong. As long as it's a DOT approved tire then it does not matter.
Before Biden. Look at those gas prices.
Lol very true
The ignorance of how free markets work in a capitalist economy is astounding! The President has no influence over prices.
Petroleum (gasoline) prices are set in free markets. Geopolitical forces, OPEC production limits (especially) in combination with other market forces determine prices. Did you know oil company profits have been at record levels for several years? How? Companies set the prices without political influence.
Give it a rest guys. Bullshit draws flies.
So you want to tell me there was no shortage of fuel after February of 2022 which was the result of political decisions being made were the president actually had a pretty big say
@genegarrett4172 then went gas prices came down a little why was he giving a speech taking credit for it ?
@@genegarrett4172 drill and refine oil in our country its cheaper. Stop drilling and outsource oil it goes up. Print so much money it devalues our dollar worth, this causes inflation. To corporations profit is profit. Whether its 50 cents out of $2 a gallon or 50 cents out of $5 a gallon..
The government controls every other aspect of our lives. They didn't stop at fuel prices.
I dark sided my scooter with a wheelbarrow tyre
😂🤣 nice
I'll follow you down the Sidewinder out of Kingman on my Road king... Lets see how that works out... Videos like this are dangerous and cause people to try going dark side. Yeah I did once on a VTX1800 I had back in 2003, because of a similar video I watched.
took it right back off after a week. I used a Yokhama Advan track racing tire so as to have maximum grip. Yeah it has plenty of traction but you always feel like you're coming out of a rut when turning and while going straight the ruts will move you around way more on the freeway. If you don't feel any difference then you are not one with your bike. Road feel to me is very important. Car tires belong on cars and motorcycles need motorcycle tires...
Um ok. Where is the sidewinder? This summer?
Arizona?
This would probably only good to ride in Florida where the roads are straight as can be. Terrible idea.
Terrible assumption.
See Yellow Wolf ride Deals Gap and get back to me:
ruclips.net/video/37XLJNLpzxQ/видео.html
Darkside is fine for these bikes since they don't lean enough for it to be dangerous.
There is a video of a Goldwing 1800 running at Deals Gap that proves you wrong.
Harley riders have been running car tires on the rear since after the war. Nothing to see here folks.
You know, I have always agreed with your videos until now. A motorcycle and a car tire are 2 different animals. Cars steer totally different from motorcycles. As I notice the chicken strips on your back tire, you may get away with it. Praying it doesn't bite you.
My man I appreciate your input I really do. Good news is I have 10,000 miles on it so far and it’s working out pretty well
Hey we have to be controversial every now and then don’t we? Lol
@@YogisCycleService some times. I really believe the most important piece of safety equipment on a bike is your tires. I may ride with a guy running a car tire but probably not next to him. :-) It's all good.
Steve Hill, do you have experience with darkside? Do you have wrenching/biking experience in general?
@@HellfighterSteve "not next to him" because you stay far behind.

Yeah I know, sorry. First video got taken down by RUclips. Apparently the clip I used was "unauthorized" and despite every effort I tried to make to point the source and even a link to it so the owner could get more views he wasnt happy and I got a copyright strike as a result. Live and learn

Rodney Barcus well I am happy to see you’re catching my vids as they come. Thank you for the support!!
It’s pronounced “Electraglide”
Auto tires on a bike = death wish
Do you have experience? Can you proof ONE darkside related accident? No? Ok, have a nice day.
Do you really need one month... and more?
Truth be told I was actually out running most all of my brothers with motorcycle tires both going up and down the mountain. Next time I will be sure to video that also
@@YogisCycleService But you cannot escape the fact that that car tires and wheel beads are totally different from motorcycle tire and wheel beads ..Please go to almost the very end of this video and see why it's not good .At least educate yourself on the subject. @@fireball1322 Another assumption mechanic. Do you have experience? If so, what kind? If the bead holds air, all is fine. Never had a bike rim/ct combimation theat failed. Did you ever took a CT off from a bike rim? Well, that is a hard job. You even can run flat and the CT will stay in place.

I also was into muscle cars and owned a 69 Chevelle SS 396 on which I made engine mods and also fully restored. My question to you is have you ever looked at the differences between car wheel tire beads and those on H-D rims (as well as other motorcycle wheels? There is a reason why they are different..
@@fireball1322 Yes, there is a reason, but do you have darkside experience? Your family can work 4 generations for Dunlop, but that don't make somebody a daily rider with year off darkside experience. I follow every conversation and the answer is always the same: no experience, pure assumptions.
Unfortunately most insurance companies are aware of people using car tires on motorcycles and are not honoring claims.

It's not clever to show the public it's ok to do a dangerous / illegal mod of fitting a car tyre to bike... Madness
I’d never do this on my goldwing, riding in straight line then turning for bend rider must feel the tyre balancing on the edge, scary,, proper scary.🤭
@@garyedwards8142 Funny assumption from somebody with zero knowledge or experience. Shame yourself.
Wow do you ever not know what you are talking about! Nothing you said was true. Nothing. Perhaps you are just one of those that enjoys making a fool of himself. That's pretty obvious even.
Putting a car tire on your motorcycle causes serious instability with handling and is not recommended by any manufacturer or safety organization. Its just stupid!
I find it just _hilarious_ how many ignorant people there are out there who have _never in their lives_ tried darksiding yet, astonishingly, they believe somehow that they are experts on the practice. Dissing something you know _absolutely nothing_ about is not just ignorant, it's just stupid!! 🤦♂
And if not what size tire would you dark side?
I've heard that insurance companies are aware of darksiding and that in the case of an accident that happens with a car tire on a motorcycle they will deny any claims.
