Those complaining about the environment impact are just a bunch of hypocrites. Those “environmentalists” did nothing when all the touristic infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, etc.) was initiated many years ago, devastating so much of the jungle; now even some stretches of rivers and some “cenotes” are in private properties. The gringo company “Vulcan materials” (CALICA) destroyed for many years a large portion of jungle, even using dynamite, and nobody said anything about it. In Europe, the main means of transportation is by train, and obviously it had environmental impact. Yes, the infrastructure was over the initial budget allocation but in some cases was due to changes (more stations, change of route, etc.). Can you mention any project of infrastructure, in the whole world, was built within the budget? Over the budget projects has been the norm in all projects in Mexico since so many decades ago.

We never heard of the environmentalists when the corrupt politicians were in power, but now, all of a sudden, they came out of hiding.

I am indeed with this video. I am a mexican from southern specifically from Merida. And I can tell you for sure the government is investing a lot, a lot on many projects around the world and this region is having a huge transforming. AMLO also finally raise the mexican middle class to 52%, becoming a middle class country. The poverty is declining, the minimum wage is getting higher, the inflation is on of the lowest in all the world. This is the best president this country ever had. He is making Mexico a real wealthy country and better he's making Mexico a superpower. We almost become the largest economy in Latin surpassing Brazil with the double of population of Mexico
    BRAZIL GDP 2.1 k
    MEXICO GDP 1.81k.
Sooner Mexico will have another face in less than years, remember those words.

They should add the train and then take out a bunch of the highways. Then things would balance out ideally.

This concept of this project is a good one, but the execution has been terrible. The project was handed over to the military because AMLO didn't want the project slowed down by environmental reviews and local input. My giving the project to the military, it becomes a national defense peoject that can be exempt from environmental revuew or local concerns. Resulting in last minute changes to one of the sections to favor large existing resorts that support AMLO even though the changes were more harmful to the environment than the original route.

The involvement of the military minimized corruption and poor workmanship.

Se tuvo que hacer de esa manera porque se sabía que iban a venir los amparos para detener la obra y así fue. Más de 800 amparos y si no hubiera sido por este movimiento la obra nunca se hubiera hecho.

LOL! It's *not* a "bullet train, more like a pop-gun train. It currently goes from 25 MPH to 60+-MPH. I saw that the top speed it could do is 99 MPH. But it's really highly unlikely to go that fast. That thing is half-ass built, not even fully completed when it opened. That's what less developed countries do. They build without any environmental/feasibility studies. And I have read that it went a *little* over budget. Currently 28 billion U.S. bucks.

Exactly right. This vanity project was rushed through so it could be finished before AMLO leaves office in 2024. Much like the ugly horribly located new airport in Santa Lucia that no one wants to use.
