What is the weight on that axe, looks too light for you
I think it’s about a 5 or 7.5 lb maul
What about a knotted one about the size of the one you're putting them on top of?
Those are the worst, sometimes takes all my wedges and is a pain to keep upright

Knotted big leaf maple is tuff.
Oh yeah, definitely not a huge fan. It’s a good workout though
