As a Brit / European, I will try to explain to Americans. Football is steeped in history and tradition, these teams were created by the working class from within their cities hundreds of years ago. Families and generations of people grew up supporting their local teams, it is not just a team but almost a religion. During the years, teams would have rivals from other teams in the same city or neighbouring cities, sometimes something completely different. This gives bragging rights to the team who beats the other. Usually, these are called "Derbies", the biggest ones around the world are Liverpool vs Man United, (The Northwest Derby) Arsenal vs Tottenham (North London Derby) AC Milan vs Inter Milan (Milan Derby) Real Madrid vs Barcelona (El Clasico) Bayern vs Dortmund (Der Klassiker) Celtic vs Rangers (The Old Firm Derby) Boca Juniors vs River Plate (The Superclásico)..and more. The home crowds are sometimes referred to as the "12th Man" (matches are 11vs11) because they can have an influence in the game by creating a hostile atmosphere for the opposition team to make them nervous. But also chanting aka war chants and songs are a way of showing support for your team and lifting them up. Sadly, I think this is hard for the MLS because my understanding most teams are franchises? They are missing the core and heart of what makes a football club.
Bayern vs Dortmund is NOT a Derby. The so called "Klassiker" is just an invented marketing slogan by the DFL (League association). Relevant Derbies of the two mentioned teams would be Bayern vs 1860 or Dortmund vs Schalke
Real football is a different breed, 100s of years of history in the same town/city playing the same teams building rivalries around the world. More than a game!
I've always been struck with how many Americans believe that they are the only ones who have pride I their teams and country , yet around the world people walk the walk. they don't have to tell you how they feel, they show you.

Napoli or Naples in English - Incredibly well supported club however have not been successful trophy wise in their history they were at their best when Diego Maradona( one of the best players of all time) played for them and they won a few trophies, Naples as a city has a bad reputation for crime (Mafia) and is seen by the North of Italy (where all the wealth is ) as either the last city of the first world or the first city of the third world, it’s not uncommon for Napoli supporters to be welcomed with signs that say things like “Welcome to Italy” when playing northern teams , they don’t really lean anyway politically. 4. PSG- they have been dominant in recent times due to Middle Eastern owners pumping lots of money in however they were always well supported as they don’t really lean either way politically compared to other Paris teams who’s fan bases tend to heavily right and left. 5.Boca Juniors- they were singing about River plate their arch rivals and fellow Buenos Aires based team , Boca being mostly Left Wing and River being to the Right. 6. San Lorenzo- Formed by a Catholic priest who when seeing some young lads playing football in the street saw one almost knocked over by a tram and told them they could play in the church grounds if they came to Sunday Mass, like Boca juniors and River plate they are also located in Buenos Aires and are also the club the Pope supports! . You don't have to travel to Europe to get wonderful chants. South America has some of the best fans and chants. "Oh San Lorenzo" is probably the best one there. Sadly the US is the ONLY country that has NO chants that can make any list. Too scared to sing songs in case someone gets offended or its too loud. Not sure IF USA is actually FREE!

Marsaille's "Aux armes" is a reference to the Marsaillaise, the french national anthem. It was written as a marching song for the volunteers from the region during the French Revolution, and yes, it is quite bloodthirsty. It begins with the line "aux armes, citoyens" ("to arms, citizens"). The chant has been adapted by a few other left-leaning clubs, like St. Pauli from Germany.

I get up at like 4-5am most weekends and travel to a british pub that shows the rangers games, it's filled with UK ex-pats and tourists and the atmosphere is usually excellent. In case no one said anything Ultras are insane passionate fans that follow around the team where ever they go. They are basically like a club. In England for example they usually inhabit a single or maybe two pubs before matches and they march to the stadium together. The MLS is starting to get on board especially the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, and LAFC.

Check out the South American Ultras. They are mind blowing. A little explanation: football clubs have been around for a very long time in South America and Europe so people are born into supporting a certain club. Getting together and celebrating or cheering on your club is like a tribal thing - it's a feeling of belonging to something bigger than you.

Cabj is Boca Junior. River plate vs Boca junior is famous all over the world with the name of superclasico. This is the most heartfelt match in all of Buenos Aires, and is also seen here in Europe. Often there are clashes with deaths between the two fans

@@KingBoomer I second that. Basketball fans are another level of wild. Specially in the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. You said it's like a tribal chant, but it's not _like_ one, it _is_ a tribal chant! Football is like a bit of a special zone in society where people can act in those kinds of ways that would be frowned upon in the rest of life. And there will be some times when people overstep the mark and have clashes with the opposition fans, but so long as everyone stays the right side of the line it's a good way of people letting off steam and getting it out of their system. It serves a useful social purpose. ('Ultras' is the word for the hard-core gangs who support particular teams by the way. Well, nominally support, in that they turn up primarily for the violence to fight the ultras from the other team, and the football is just an excuse for them! Only a very small percentage of fans, but some teams are more notorious than others.)

Your pronunciation tip for AJAX is not really helpful, because following your advice with „Eye Yax“ you will spell it with a heavy english accent, which is not even close to the correct dutch pronunciation.
- The first letter is an „A“ not an „E“ wich has a similar sound to the „A“ used by the pronunciation of „Arsenal FC“
- the second letter „J“ sounds also nothing like an English „J“ or „Y“ like in „eye“
Because Languages like Dutch, German, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and even Polish pronouncing some of the letters in the Alphabet way different compared to their English counterparts, for example letters like „i“, „e“, „g“ „ch“ „w“ „j“, „y“, „r“, „q“ and „z“ sound completely different than in English

4:15 these are flares.
4:43 is Paris Saint-Germain away in Manchester.
“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.” - Bill Shankly
8.40 is San lorenzo an argentine club, same kind of fans as boca juniors
4:12 That is Napoli club from Italy.. 5:39 Club Atlético Boca Juniors.. Argentina football club.. one of the best football clubs in South America .. produced a lot of talented players who are now playing in Europe clubs... i think their club went from division 1 to division 2 which is a lower division and the fans are not happy with that
No, their biggest rivals River Plate were relegated a few years ago, that´s what they referring to.
At 8:10 we have Panathanaikos, a Greek club (I can read Greek language)..
As a French guy, thank you for using the term "football" instead of soccer.
Just a comment to trick the YT algos ;)
But if you happen to come around Bordeaux, DM me, beers will be on me 😉😷
The thing with football is when fans clash they fight each other and was a way of life in 1980s and 90s and still happens today when fans meet
Hey man you NEED to check put the vid ultras our way of life its insane ✌
The first one you asked was in Argentina, the second one was in Greece I think
Also Liverpool fans singing You'll Never Walk Alone! Goosebumps!
True, but the one where they were facing Celtic, and they together sings YNWA together.
@@argantyr5154 *Bradford City* vs both of you.
*RIP the 56*
Liverpool fans are pretty overrated.
Cabj is Boca Junior. River plate vs Boca junior is famous all over the world with the name of superclasico. This is the most heartfelt match in all of Buenos Aires, and is also seen here in Europe. Often there are clashes with deaths between the two fans
The bit where it looks like they burning it down they are just using things called flares, they are banned at British matches
Come to Italy for a derby between inter-milan, you will love it.
8:19 It is a tribal chant.
Ultras our way of life. React
If you join a match, shoose wisely, so you don't end up in the wrong place we're it gets rough! 🤣
Ultras' are the top-level, hardcore fans of football and basketball in Europe and South America, many of the ultras, especially in Eastern Europe, attached to football clubs, have para military and political affiliations, they are the next level up from the football "hooligan"😎🏹🙏
Wait… basketball too?
@@KingBoomer yep basketball too, there's a cool video which I think is called "American vs European Basketball fans", it's quite eye-opening, I think you will enjoy it 😎🏹🙏
@@KingBoomer I second that. Basketball fans are another level of wild. Specially in the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. Back in the 80's they used to throw all sort of stuff to the ground, coins, screws, eventually the own arena chairs when things didn't go their way...they are not so savage nowadays but same passionate neverthless.
Ultra mean extremist, hard core, dedicated follower of their team!
We (parisians) were visiting in Madrid, that's why there's only this few of us
8:35 it's Panathinaikos, Greece
Football is Love !
Do more of these!

You gotta reacto to: Ultras our way of life.
Best ultras video is ultras our way of life
You said it's like a tribal chant, but it's not _like_ one, it _is_ a tribal chant!
Omg you need to watch a lot of UK football films, green Street an football factory for a start it's really good an then watch rise of a foot soldier lol you will like it
ultras do more to support their club than normal fans. but it can be dangerous to mess with them
the light blue "N" badge, is from Napoli, an italian team
the team after Celtic was Greek side panathinaikos. You need to check out some the tartan army clips,i would love to see your reaction to them.

Please react to Ultras- our way of life, it is about football fans
If you go to Scotland old firm derby that is one of the most violent matches in the world
So the smoke and fire your referring too is flares and smoke bombs. A lot of country in Europe and South America use them as they are allowed. In the uk where I am from these are banned from stadiums because of the trouble we have and what’s happened in the past. Same as like how’s fans in the uk can not sit with each other because of the trouble we have. Hope that helps
boca v river plate, is the one you asked about. boca are working class, river middle class. the clover badge is panathinaikos. gate 13 is an ultra group. check out both wydad and raja casablanca. insane fans
