- APOPHIS WASN'T JUST THE FIRST villain on Stargate SG-1 - he was clearly one of the greatest of all time. Played with aplomb by Jamaican actor Peter Williams, Apophis was the SG-1 team's chief antagonist for more than four years.
We caught up with Peter at this year's Gatecon: The Celebration fan event in Vancouver, British Columbia for a live sit-down! Peter talks about the early years of the show, his character's surprise return in Season 3, and a very special episode in Season 2's "Serpent's Song." We also made sure to ask him about his appearance in THE EXPANSE!

Peter Williams really has a presence even in an Interview. You did very well letting him take the conversation and giving us a tour of the topics, a very rare talent indeed.
So true, cool guy for sure. 💫💥💫
It's amazing how well he remembers the show. Not all actors do that. I think the show meant a lot to him.
It's so weird seeing him out of character.
But really cool that our niche little community does stuff like this. Thanks Apophis! AKA hardest to kill Goa'uld in the show
his voice is almost the same though lol
What's weird to me is thinking of him as anything other than Pin in Neon Rider. It's the only show I've ever seen him in, and I got curious about him so that lead me to this video.
I don't even know what Stargate is. Soudns like a science fiction show?? Sounds like Star Treck. 100 percent not my thing, I do not like sc fi at all.
But I do like the chance to see this guy interviewed, so thanks.
Also Neon Rider is the BEST show ever. AND filmed here in beautiful Canada. AND has the sexy and talented Winston Rekert in it.
Although it's very odd hearing him here....where is his Jamacian accent?? I can hardly hear it, if at all. In Neon Rider it's very there, very obvious. Hmm. Maybe he lost it, over time. People do lose their accents, sometimes.
It was lovely that he mentioned Share/Vaitiare Bandera actor.
What a great actor. I ALWAYS google the list of episodes with Apophis. I hope you live a long life brother!
I want more Stargate in the future, please come back as Apophis 🙏
We never saw him die so as far as I'm concerned, Apophis is still alive and kicking!
He was killed by the replicators
@@jackphillips4305
Like I said, we didn't see him die.
@@RhinoBarbarian His personal shield and ship were overrun with them, and theres a distant shot of his ship crashing into some planet. That slimy snake is long gone.
@@jackphillips4305
How many times did he die before that?
ı dont forget the line "tealc this is your god apophis" :D
All those Stargate SG1 actors, they never get old.
What a great Interview,... Thanks #PeterWilliams
I flew from Australia for this event and had absolutely the best time. I do hope there is another one in the future.
absolute legend and was a pleasure to watch, Thank you from a UK fan
Met Peter at cal-mah 2 in England.. crazy surreal moment shaking hands with GOD 😆 super nice dude
oooo i havent really seen the actor outside the show was cool seeing him in this video seem like a cool dude.
I really liked Apophis. He went from one of the top dogs to losing everything, coming back and then losing everything again. He was a stubborn, manipulative and egotistical Goauld but what worm isn't? He just keeps getting back up. Also I finished all of 10 SG1 seasons and even Universe. I can't wait to get my hands on Atlantis.
I love that he’s doing well out there.
Such a wholesome guy! One of my favorites bad guys in Stargate next to Ba'al!
I really like him, he seems so kind but really crushed it as a villain. The first baddie from the TV series.
What a nice guy.
OMFG i ve been waiting 4 this for a very long looong time for this ! It s actually rather good ! Im curious ... did you plan on saying this when you came in ,or was it just o the topof your head ?
What a fantastic actor, and human being. 👏🏼
I think it's so cool, that you are able to do all these amazing interviews! I know so little about how these shows were made and who these people are beyond the roles they play. Thank you so much for this amazing channel!
Thank you for watching!
What an amazing actor and human being.
He sure played a megalomaniac extremely well! ha!
0:20 OMFG he hasnt aged on iota ,how did he do it ? Even Sam aged
He is a god.
What a gentleman!
Love this man
Beautiful man and so charismatic! It's so interesting though see him not as Apophis with his sharp eye make up:)
Glad to see he's looking well. Tbh i don't think it would even take much makeup for him to play Apophis again in a flashback or something.
I wonder what he sounds like as apophis without the soundeffect but in character
I was surprised to see him on the expanse piloting the weeping somnambulist, I would have liked a SG-1 little Easter egg...
It was only when I heard his natural voice that I realised he was of West Indian - Jamaican origin.
Is it Apophis?
As time passed, he (Apophis) also grew older.
I remember watching Stargate SG-1 and really enjoying it.
Is his name Peter?
I first saw him on video.
he looks good
crazy apophis haha
It's always kewl to see other major characters interviewed. I was shocked to hear Michael Shanks was married to the Sha'uri character. Unless I'm mistaken, he married both; the one from the original movie and then the one from the series.
Michael had a daughter with Vaitiare Bandera (who played Sha're in the series), though I don't think they were ever married. He later married Lexa Doig, who played Dr. Carolyn Lam on SG-1.
*Great, wonderful interview **#DarrenSumner**. And you have a **#SPAMMER** towards the bottom.* 😮 ❤ 👍🏼👍🏼

When they got rid of Apophis they left a sizable hole in the show. I never thought it was a good idea to kill him off before the end of the series.
So jealous of the girl up to her third season, I really wish that was me
*#Peter_Williams** is totally right, on the waking up after the pandemic **#Darren_Sumner**. And everyone have a **#Happy_Thanksgiving**.* 🦃 🍁 ❤ 👍🏼👍🏼 💕

Close the Iris !
This feeling is silly. But still I feel myself weird when I see him in normal human clothes. :D
How could one bring back Apiphis?
Apofis sige vivo 😱😱😱
One of the things i wish Stargate had done was just at least one episode where Apophis happens to be part of the SG1 team as a Jaffa and Teal'c would've been a Goa'uld System Lord in this case he would be Apophis.
Reversed roles, and somehow this alternated SG1 or our SG1 team would team up to fight Anubis or even the ORI somewhere at the end of the show.
This for me would have been one of the best episodes ever.
That's getting into some major fanfiction, alternate dimension stuff.
The only way this would be possible in canon was with the Mirror, which if I remember right got destroyed.
Otherwise it'd just be pure fanservice, and would have very little plot ramifications.
@@Atmatan Not really unless they decided to bring the mirror back and have more be created part of it, as if it were a form of allied weapon, just as the stones that were barely used in SG-1 became an actual thing to use in SGU..
So the mirror could just as easily become a thing, and fans of Aphophis wanted more of him back when he was killed but some wanted him gone earlier and bring him back differently but the two creators of the show had different disagreements with him, so he was let go at the time and had a quick death between 2 galaxies with replicators.
So yeah, reverse roles between Teacl and Aphophis would easily be possible than most other episodes
Even an Anubis being given a second chance to prove his worth against the Ori would actually be another thing that could be possible even if it was just an alternated reality.
Same for Daniel who had access to all the Goa'uld child turning evil and conquering the entire galaxy in new extra episode where they could or would meet another one just as when he blew up Russia and USA in his special episode with the Child.
@@SupremeLordEnki Daniel getting the genetic memories was one thing.
Call it a mirror episode and it can work, as I said.
Otherwise, keep it to your fanfics
@@Atmatan Ya bit rude aren't you?
@@SupremeLordEnki You like your own comments. Not sure I'm too worried about your opinions.
I have been trying to decide if it's possible to create a dead reckoning for the Destiny based off what we know? And if I am correct, the Destiny might not beyond rescue or seeing Earth again. How? We know that minus some zig-zags for fueling and data collection she appears to be heading in rather linear path. We know she can travel faster than light but not as fast as hyperspeed. The actual speed is not relevant as we can create a window based off this info. The minimum distance would be 1c or 65 million years or 65 million light years. We know she's further than that. But what's her max distance? I think we can actually get a pretty good idea based on the fact we know she can't travel at hyperspeed.
We don't actually know the starting speeds or hyperspace travel, however, in SG1: Redemption Pt 2 we see the slowest canon hyperspeed when the X302 in one second travels 482,803,200 km ( 1461.46 c or Warp 9.15 for TNG Star Trek ). Just using this number, then the max distance Destiny could have traveled in 65 millions years is 104,679,900,000 light years. Now the standard speed for the BC304 is 60,874,610.4 c...and the BC304 with a ZPM is 273,951,525.6 c. At these speeds a BC304 would reach the max distance possible for the Destiny in 1,719.6 years and 382 years with a ZPM.
HOWEVER......there's a big factor we need to consider. Humans have access to Asgard engines. They didn't use them because when the Asgard core was active, the Ori were an issue. Now that the Ori are not a threat, they can use the Asgard engines. In SG1 Unnatural Selection we see the Asgard were able to travel 200 light years per second while towing, so they may have been able to go faster. 200 light years per second is 6311520000 c! It would only take about 16 years (13 if they can go 250 ly/sec and who knows if they could get a ZPM boost) for Asgard ship to reach the maximum possible distance the Destiny could be...not to mention, that in reality we know the Destiny isn't at the maximum possible distance because 1) the Destiny isn't always traveling in a straight line non-stop, 2) the ship wouldn't have reached this distance based off the show, 3) the ship has been operating a diminished capacity for a very long time, 4) the crew of the Destiny is now in control of the ship. They could turn her around or slow her down if they wanted.
I'm just saying that if we knew the direction, we might actually be able to get to them home in their lifetime. It would be a 20 year round trip for the rescuers or an unmanned ship....but....I think it is at least possible. And now that the crew has access to Destiny...they should be able to know the direction of Earth. They would have her flight plan....so there's another thing to consider. And for the record, I never accepted or believed that they would follow Rush's desire to finish the mission. That's bad writing to continue the show. Their mission was to get home at all costs. One man's idiotic plan to try and solve the secret of the universe that the most advanced race known couldn't solve on a broken ship....please. That's a death sentence for the crew and they wouldn't all go along with it.
Dennis Reynolds is looking different. :P
He was in rent the movie
And he has such a nice voice not the satan version of him as a goauld
When i saw this video i was like "what, didn't Apophis die recently?"
But maybe that was Ba'al idk
Yes, the great Cliff Simon (Baal) passed away last year.
Is his name Peter?
I want to know his last name
It's in the title.
Wonder how often he gets asked by fans to call them Shol'va.
oh man thanks youtube i forgot about apophis
Such a great badguy. I think they spent way too many times bringing him back to life. Not the character fault but writer fault. So many other badguys could have had more time. Seth is one of those...
👍🏿
Jheez, I wish I could have been there. Glad people had a great time. Reddit has a Stargate community. It is a very positive place. Take a look if time permits.
I loved his small appearance and full of flavor in the latest stargare movies.
Peter Williams sold it. Over and over. If I met him I’d probably be uneasy and remind myself hey actor. I hope he gets many more roles.
Peter looking good
Thanks for sharing your experiences with fans at Gatecon Peter
Cool maaan !! 🤙
Awesome interview, great video, thanks so much. 💫💥💫
Wait deh Apophis is a Jamaican. Wow learn something new every days.
"I'm used to dying."
'Apophis 2022
I was rewatching expanse and was like wait is that apophis.
Has it ever been explained why he has those ornate pieces of metal embedded in his face? I know he wore a crude metal mask to cover his deformities while on Netu but after taking over Sokar's forces he obviously had access to a sarcophagus, which should have healed simple flesh wounds. Something to remember his time in the underworld, perhaps?
Those weren't simple flesh wounds, he got hit by an explosion. He needed cybernetics to keep his body alive and wasn't able to get to a sarcophagus until after Sokars death.
Apophis is dead. A dead false god!
