If you don't hold it, you don't own it. It's that simple.

What do central banks hold? Currency? No. Bitcoin? No. Silver? No. Only gold bullion.

Why would gold be a base for money ... today that is a completely arbitrary choice. The more natural choice today for currency in a modern society is to be based on oil. Which the dollar currently is based on. Cash can be taken away from people very easily by the government - all they have to do is to create an hyperinflation and make money worthless. There is no security in either cash or gold. However I agree that digital money is way more easy to manipulate.

Andras Libal The problem with oil is that the average person can’t just keep enough barrels stored as their wealth of cash fails and people lose confidence. Gold can do this in much smaller and transferable amounts.

The next digital cash is bitcoin, and it is better than cold at rarity and money properties.

How will individuals hold garage sales outside of cash, or even sell something outside of cash, ie person sells his automobile to private party for less than $10,000, or even buy Girl Scout cookies?

Governments do things slowly over decades if they removed cash overnight they would have a revolution to deal with.
There is still time before we are completly cashless that means their hand in our pocket whenever they like.
I dont know if gold will be of any use in the cashless world but i am stacking gold anyway.

MICHAEL LUTHER-DAVIES wow. You posted this 4 years ago, and today it is very relevant. Retail margins have increased because of demand. It’s crazy out there. You purchased smartly.
