Hey folks! Got another Super Metroid-styled original in the books today. This time we're wondering the ancient ruins of the bygone Thoha tribe on Zebes! With the last track (Heart of the Grove) being Upper Brinstar inspired, I naturally moved my focus to making some equivalent track for Lower Brinstar. I found a sine-esque sound in Super Metroid's samples that reminded me of Torvus Bog a lot. I took that Torvus Bog melody idea, but could never really get an "aquatic" feel going. The more I thought on the track, the more my mind wandered to FF7's Desert Wasteland. That track shares a whistley, somber melody line with Torvus, so that's neat! The more I thought, the more "dusty old ruins" identity the track took. I kept the Lower Brinstar inspired choir hits, as they sort of matched other Metroid tracks like Bryyo and NEStroid's Norfair. The bass line and timpani seemed to fall in naturally. I'll admit there may be some subconscious inspiration from Octopath Traveler 2's Osvald's Theme, but it was definitely unintentional! Add in some of those classic Super Metroid SFX (again, more Lower Brinstar inspiration) and voila! As for the "SPC700-like" description, I didn't have high quality versions of about half of the Super Metroid samples used here. I took some liberties and either used some other Metroid classic samples (such as the Metroid Prime choir), or did some heavy sound design efforts to get the sounds close to the original samples. Dusty old ruins are definitely not the damp submerged vibe of Lower Brinstar, but hey. Inspiration is inspiration lol. Hope y'all enjoy!
