Nixon - "When the president does it, that means it is not illegal"

- Thought the internet needed a better copy of this quote from the 1977 Nixon-Frost interviews. We've kept the video rolling after the quote for you to see the rest of Nixon's argument defending his statement.
Interesting to see how even in pre-internet 1977, Nixon eventually resorts to the Hitler meme.
For some reason I find his "just won't work!" at 0:39 very charming
Remember when presidents were held responsible?
Nixon never was. And his cronies were in the Trump White House.
@@ajrollo1437He was about to get impeached. He resigned before congress could do anything.
And even then he never faced any real consequences. Accountability in the White House is the most fanciful legend in recent human history
@@alonkatz4633 It doesn't matter, the actual crime of breaking into your political opponents offices was never punished, and never discouraged. Everyone involved is still actively in politics (if alive). Nixon died free, no criminal record, and no reason to regret anything. His cronies sure don't.
@@ajrollo1437 His cronies did get punished, and some went to prison. Nixon himself was investigated (and intervened in his own investigation several times as president), but was pardoned by president Ford. Needless to say, this move likely cost Ford the 1976 election.
The internet *did* need a better copy of this clip. Thank you. This clip also seems awful relevant right now. Did you buy the full interviews to get this?
What’s the red arrow for?
The DJT Doctrine
TDS
Don’t forget Obama offing that 16-year-old American-born citizen in Yemen , who was completely innocent from any wrongdoing.
Obama called his demise “collateral damage”.
So I call it the “Obama Doctrine”.
Feel free to challenge my claim ✌️
Now, the Supreme Court's literal opinion, and per the comment above you, that this is "TDS" - they'll all be sorry, eventually, to see it in action, but by then it'll be too late. Just like with Iraq, where most of them were saying anyone who was against it and said it would be a disaster, were "with the terrorists", only to pretend they were against it the whole time (this includes Trump himself of course).
George Washington doctrine. Any reasonable person would expect the haphazard withdrawal from Afghanistan would result in the deaths ofAmerican servicemen. Should Joe Biden stand trial for 16 counts of involuntary manslaughter? Same as a drunk driver doesn’t intend to kill someone but knows his actions will likely result in death.
1:20-2:23 He said it! This man has been vindicated in 2024 by the Supreme Court!
If you listen to him, he actually had a more limited view of the immunity than the vast sweep of what of US Supreme Court found.
What he ordered to do was not because of a National Security threat. Lol! 😂 It was his own crazy brain going bunkers.
Yeah, Nixon had a crazy brain which is why his foreign policy was so successful.
at the time of this original broadcast a vast majority of Americans did not agree with his sentiments. Now, 50% of the country agrees with his sentiments, but ONLY as long as the president making the judgment call is Trump. In other words, not a Nation of Laws, but a Nation of men. How far we have fallen.
On a personal note , I distinctly remember becoming nauseated when the Obama-loving lefties gave him full support when he initiated a drone strike against that innocent 16 year old American citizen in Yemen.
Hey wait !
Didn’t Obama’s administration precede the Donald’s? 🤔
All Presidents have had immunity for official constitutional acts...and questionable acts can be brought to court, nothing has changed. The current president coordinating prosecutions of his opponent being a prime example.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
It all sounds very similar to Trump excusing his actions on January 6th. Presidential immunity.

He's right you know
no he is most definitely not
@@rmw.4079 It depends on who they are and/or what they do, but most of the time, the president is given immunity.
@@JeffSkilling69 They shouldn’t the president should be under the same laws as everyone else. If he is not then he is a dictator and we need to revolt
No one is above the law not even the President of the United States
