Cross multiplying is fine but so is using LCD, it depends on the problem as to which method is easier. Take for instance 7/12 + 1/6. The LCD is just 12 which makes adding the fractions so much easier than cross multiplying. Conversely in the example in your video, cross multiplying is easier.

In 7/12+1/6 given, I use Butterfly Method since it is my favorite method and my answer is 27/36
