This movie was a masterpiece. One of the best movies ever made. Few movies have the power to change one's perspective on life, and this is one of those rare gems.
Never Cry Wold is my favorite movie EVER. I read the book in grade school then eventually watched the movie and I truly think it helped shape some of the ways I am today. They broke the mold when they did this one. Thank you!
And certainly not for everyone. It's a movie that basically has no middle ground. People either think it's great or they think it's boring. I've watched it so many times (8 or 10) that I can repeat the dialogue from memory.
Definitely one of my favorite movies. It certainly shaped how I look at nature and people and impacted my life forever. I am an avid hiker now and seek to be alone in the wilderness whenever I go out to Colorado, Utah, California, etc. Planning to hike in the Philippines soon and I can't wait to see what nature I find there. Carol Ballard is incredible. I never knew it took this long to make this film. Disney needs to re-release it in a high quality version on Blu-Ray and in 4K. I regularly search for it on Disney+ hoping they get the hint.
I just watched the DVD, and I'm surprised not only that Charles Martin Smith's nude scenes got in, but that the whole mouse-eating plot point made it into a film by a studio whose mascot is a mouse. It really is a beautifully shot film, and it showed the studio was still willing to take risks. Apparently, there was also a making-of special on TDC at the time the film was made, but it was not on either Disney's DVDs or Anchor Bay's. It's too bad none of those made the jump to DVD.
Christopher Sobieniak Perhaps the people in charge of making discs now just don't know what they have. All I do know is that they are actively pushing away from DVD extras with this latest decision to sell live-action catalog titles like OLD YELLER and POLLYANNA as bare-bones Disney Movie Club exclusives without even any menus, when they got feature-packed DVDs. They didn't even have to create new extras, just use what already exists in the vaults.
I always had an insane sexual and platonic crush on Charles Martin Smith for almost 40 years ago since i was a little child. I even tried to kill myself for him my father Luíz died. Charles Martin Smith was my first male sex symbol and my first platonic crush on Hollywood and the worldest cinema ever.

Pure filmmaking at its best. A classic picture.

Always seemed like such a ballsy movie for Disney to put out back then (if only for that one scene).

Attmay Sad they couldn't stick that on there.

Attmay Shame (let alone putting Old Yeller on dog food bags which I'll never understand).
I gotta admit, as a gay man myself, I totally love Charles Martin Smith's nude scene.
My favorite. 🌿
Indeed. In my top 5.
Which are the other four? :)
Charles Martin Smith made my heart beat so strong until today.
Too GREAT a man to make films of the fatuous scripts that anyone can make.

Great movie, one of my favorites.....complete BULLSHIT, but great entertainment.
