Played this piece in college on euphonium and when we got to the half time choral at the end we added pipe organ to it fully maxed out on all the stops and volume pedals. It was glorious.
the truth of performing this music, especially movement 2, is that if you are simply "following and playing," you will be left in the dust. a musician performing this must 100% be following the conductor, and rarely the music around them, as it is rarely timely. An incredible performance by the Banda Sinfónica do Exército!
you prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a method to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any help you can give me.
@Dayton Maurice i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I’m playing this piece in my high school wind ensemble as a piccolo player and I absolutely love this piece. One of my favorite pieces I’ve played in band.
Played this beautiful piece during my junior year of high school and now I’m in my first year of Grad school. The chills I have 😅 also sitting next to the piano player during movement 2 always had my adrenaline going ❤️I miss playing this and will never forget it !
i wish i could've had closure with this piece. i was meant to play timpani for this piece last march with an honors wind ensemble in my area and the concert got cancelled the day of the performance and now that group doesn't even do rehearsals anymore. so sad :(
I feel so lucky as I have had the opportunity to play this on timpani for two separate bands. It's an incredibly satisfying piece and I'm sure you'll get your opportunity.
Just played my final concert under the direction of Christopher Cicconi who's getting a new opportunity elsewhere. This was the first piece he ever conducted at this institution and it was tonight's closer. I've never played with more raw emotion than I have with this piece tonight, 6:24 is where it especially made me break. This piece is forever cemented in my heart as one of the greatest pieces I've played in my musical career. Thank you Maslanka and thank you Cicconi.
Congrats, amazing performance of a suberb piece!!! I think Felix Hauswirth is getting the best out of this composition. Didn't find anything that compares to this on youtube. Had the pleasure to perform this piece in the Swiss Army Orchestra with him.
It is they had us use it for auditions for our Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band and i accidentally got into both, now I have way too much music to practice including this. This is why you should NOT over prepare for auditions 😂😂
Good luck and have fun! I played this with the NJMEA central region wind ensemble in my senior year and it was such an incredible feeling to finish the piece and watch the audience immediately jump to their feet.
@@JaneCMusic1 I’m a flutist too 😊 as for second movement, all I can say is practice with a metronome, start slow and work your way up to the tempo your director plans on going. Ask them for a tempo marking so you know the end goal. Other than that, practice all your scales, major, minor, augmented, as well as arpeggios. The exercise book by Marcel Moyse is my favorite for that. Do it until you have them memorized.
Respectfully, I think there should have been at least one more flutist on both the 1st and 2nd parts. There are places where they have the melody that I could hardly hear because they are covered up.
@@diegoflorez-saavedra816 I mean the second part, especially those tutti with high pitched woodwind & percussion, such as 10:00 & 12:55. I know how hard allignment is since my school choose this for ensemble contest haha!

"How to die by piccolo and oboe notes" by David Maslanka. Never played such a loud piece in all my life.
Yup gotta wear earplugs for sure. I didn't even play the 3rd octave stuff until concert day. 😅
Reminds me of when I did one year exchange in America. I joined a wind ensemble and played this beautiful music as a pianist. Such a good memory.

I got to play timpani on this piece last month at Carnegie hall. I will always have a strong emotional connection to this piece.
@@connersigrist Hi SHS Wind Symphony person
I played this piece when I was with Portland State University's symphonic band. Best performance of my life.
Thank you very much.

same but i ain’t a high schooler yet
Same lol as a freshman
Same but in my schools advanced band. Though last year, before I joined, they played Armenian Dances perfectly in front of judges.

playing this now in 9th grade as a French horn and damn this is a fun piece
Holy shit! Must be a great 9th grade band. If you can make that sound half way good that would be impressive
I played this last year as a horn too. I played second horn and damn, it really gives your chops a workout.

Military band instrumentation is almost always 2 flutes plus piccolo. That's how many spots they fill so there's no additional flutists available.
