A needlebinding video, if enough of you think that we should make a tutorial about this maybe we will :) It's a lot of work to make a good tutorial. But search for other videos as well to get a broader picture

Adorable. What a beautiful relationship with his animals and wife. Very touching. Absolutely gorgeous!
Yes please for needle binding tutorial, it looks amazing.
Then we will make one of course! :D
Your chickens look like a moving piece of artwork. One big WOW! 🌿🍃🟢🍃🌿
New(ish) sub here catching up, Tova's needlebinding is so pretty and so interesting to watch her; you two are like watching a couple from hundreds of years ago, your lifestyle, the cabin, the natural textures and setting, the low-candlelight. I hope you succeed on your quest to make your homestead and life all that you imagine and work so hard to sustain. Much love ❤️
I enjoyed hearing about the needle binding. Very interesting. You are both so well educated. I’m enjoying your channel so much!
I would love a tutorial!! I've been knitting and crocheting on and off for years but it's really hard on my hands because I have arthritis, this seems like something my hands could handle though. It's also gorgeous
Then we will make one, I hope its a technique that are nice to your hands! And you are right, its really beautiful and easy when you get a hang of it :) /Tova
I loved to learn about that needling technique! I'm a knitter and it looks like it will make a lovely fabric! The method to connect two strands of yarn together is called 'spit splicing' but the action is to 'felt' the yarns together
Thank you so much! We will definitely do a needle binding video as soon as we are able, need to find some facts and write down a good script first :D
turning the bag inside out to dry the wood,
ive never heard of this before,
my father late was old school shipright he would have known,
i should have taken more notice. but joined the army instead.
many thanks for this information
I got hooked to this channel! It's so relaxing. Keep up with the good work!
Yes please a tutorial about the needle work, that would be great. Selling stuff from your farm made by you would be a great idea. You'll get there, I'm sure. All the best👍
Then we will make a tutorial for sure! :D We will certainly think further on that idea, some day! :D
@@Talasbuan I just recently knitted the Bobble Sheep Pillow (pattern is free on purlsoho site) and was getting my knitted sheep tail shape from your sheep. .... Lol! Every time I watch your vids I see all that wool walking around, ready to be pulled and veggie dyed for great things....lol! If you learn how to do the knit stitch and the purl stitch in knitting you will be able to do any knitting pattern your heart desires. With youtube and Ravelry anything is possible. My hubby made me a nalbinding needle out of a thorn off of the thorn trees that grow wild here. You inspire me to use it to learn the art. Love the coloring of your little intro squirrel....we don't have such vibrant red squirrels in East Texas. Lov your vids and your wood carvings...excellent.
@@Talasbuan "felting" is the term in English for the technique of using friction with moisture to bind the wool fibres of the yarn - its the same thing that happens to the matted wool you clipped from your sheep and used in making boiled-wool slippers, hats vests that Alpine cultures wear
@@clarekrishan1597 I learned that when joining yarns like she did, it is called wet (or spit) splicing, and I just learned last week that I can do it with plied yarn, not just single yarn.
Felt the wool together. 😊
Looking forward to next vlog..Love the things you make.Yes its tough not getting a permanent work.Hope you get lots more of Patreons. But dont stress it will only get better.Enjoy the snow.
Thank you so much Tessa, it can be hard to find work you want where I live, its kind of a limited offering, we are keeping our heads up! Have a lovely weekend!
Funny to see you walking a ram with a leash!
I call it felting the two ends of yarn together.
Put some apple cider vinegar in water to stop it freezing as much
Filming wildlife, without a hide for your competition, ive just recived a waterproof growbag,
it has a oppening to poke a lense through,
getting good shots of robbins at the moment
The method to join animal fiber strands is called Spit Splicing in North America
Would you consider making a tutorial about that type of knotmaking? I would love to watch and learn.
In USA employers stay far far away from words such as " permanent" and "guarantee" and they love the words "cross-sell" and "at-will" which means they can fire you at any time for no reason. Both of the phase words have literally robbed the workforce of any motivation and drive to perform good customer service.
That sounds so sad and awfully uncertain! :/ We at least have a lot of rules in Sweden regarding work but of course many employers find a way to sneak around them too.
actually shoveling a full shovel of snow is more time consuming and backbreaking..just peck at it a little at a time and it will remove the snow alot faster just keep at it.
I want one of your hats . Need to put some up for sale. 👍🏻👍🏻
Im glad you like them, we will think about how to best approach it :D
Just discovered your channel. Instantly subbed. 😀
How sweet of you! Welcome!
Oh god....snow..snow
Very interested please!!! I would love to make me and my family one!!!!
salary or celery? lmao great video. screw "the man" you are talented and own your soul it will all work out in sure
did you guys make a video about how to needlebind? i couldnt find any on youtube. i love it!!!!! i know how to knit . i love those wooden bowls and spoons! he should sell those. id love to buy some. lol i just noticed the pictures in the background. are those various breast in different colors?
We are planning on making such a video as sson as we can. Yes, I bought some prints from an artist here in Sweden who paint breasts in watercolour, they are lovely! 😊 /Tova
If you decide to make and sale those caps let me know. I’d love to be your first Scandinavian/American customer.
Thank you, we will let you know ;)
Please do you're beautiful sweaters and clothing or a link to where we can purchase them so you can receive part of the profits. I am very eager to own the clothing you wear especially your sweaters or Ivar's clothing
I have a question not trying to be disrespectful but I watch both of you give lots of affection to your sheep and rams as well as rabbits. And you give them names. It doesn’t bother you when you butcher them for meat and their pelts? In the USA if a farmer has cattle or sheep or even pigs he or she does not give a name of any type of affection to their animals especially when he will be sending them to the slaughter house. If they do give them a name then the animal becomes a pet only and not livestock. I know I couldn’t kill a sheep if I gave a name and I showed a lot of love and affection. Just couldn’t do it.
I love listening to the back and forth from English to Swedish. Hearing such a beautiful language is amazing.
😅😮 is
Love the sheep kisses!!
Yeah, they are such lovely creatures!
It would be cool to watch some videos of you guys speaking swedish.. subtitled in english. Keep up with the great job
Such a lovely friendly sheep. I love the pace of your vlogs, it's a nice change from the majority of RUclips fast paced vlogs.
Thank you so much!
Treating animals with love and respect says much about a persons good character. God bless animal lovers and off grid people. Your videos are inspiring and rank number one in my book. Keep up the good work.
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Moses Ivan instablaster ;)
@Iker Alfonso I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Iker Alfonso It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Moses Ivan glad I could help =)
Steve with the ladies was so funny. They didn't look impressed :-)
In English the felting (joining) of two ends of wool is called spit-splicing! Nettle fibre is very, very soft and silky, quite strong, but almost as soft as silk. I made some once and am really pleased to see that it is having a revival.
Lastly, I wanted to say that I have been following your vlog almost since you started. Lately I have been unwell with some depression and re-watching all your vlogs has been part of my evening ritual to take care of myself. I grew up on a small holding (homestead) but now live in a huge city. Watching your vlogs reminds me that I need to grow things and make things and be with animals to be a healthy human. So thank you for your work, for me it has been almost life-saving x
Yeah, Stig didn't impress them in the beginning, but they seem to like him better now :D Im so happy that our vlog can give you some peace and memories, we know how it is to feel unwell in depression or fatigue and its hard. I hope that you will recover soon! Thank you so much for your kind words. Wish you a bright and sunny weekend! /Tova
Cant wait to see all the babies next year. Sheep and human 😄 God bless ❤
Its gonna be a busy spring ;D
There is a Hungarian folk tale where a girl has to make twelve shirts out of nettles, in order to save her brothers turned into birds.
Read a fantasy book with this story! /Tova
You have to do a video once of how to knit the viking way. It will be very interesting and many people will use it. Believe me. But make sure is a good video
Then we will try to do a good one, will start plan the script :D /Tova
Stieg was hilarious!! Only ONE thing on his mind!!
You guys are such sweet people!
Thank you so much! :D
This is the first of your videos I have watched. You have created a magical life for yourselves and all those around you and i can only wish the best to you. Going this path is not easy as it goes against the cultural norm. You are rich in life so you will make it through the short money times. Just continue to follow your hearts and it will always guide you to the right place.
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words!
I believe the word in English for joining the yarn tails together is felting - a felted join.
Yes it would be interesting to see a tutorial of that kind of knotting
Thank you for your lovely videos
Then we will try to make one :D
Really enjoyed this video. I'm a spinner, knitter, weaver, and have always wanted to learn Nålebinding and whittle some needles but I haven't had time yet. If you make a tutorial I would love to watch. In English when you felt the yarn together to make it stick it's called "fulling". Fulling is basically felting but with a spun or woven or knitted fabric to make the fibers bind together. The yellow + green is lovely!
In Canada, we call that kind of hat a "touque". I'd love to see a tutorial on nalbinding. Finding the nalbinding needles to do it here in North America is difficult (idea for wood working). I found out about you guys because of Lindsay at "The Wooden Nest". Hope that you win the contest!
Funny word, toque! We will make a tutorial for sure, and the needles are very easy to make either from wood or from preferably a bone, mine are made from bone from a moose, the front bone of the leg are the strongest! Thank you so much!
I LOVED the ending with the sheep! I want some sheep too! :)
They are funny creatures for sure ;D
I just bought the same carving knife to learn how to whittle. That would be a great video. A how to whittle.
Felting the yarn together is much easier if you spread out both end of yarn like a fan over lap them , fold it over each other then spit it up and roll. work with the characteristics of wool. Have you considered processing your own yarn? Yes, there are needlebinding videos but I am sticking with knitting and spinning. With cracked bowls, if it happens at the rim you can artfully make the crack into yarn ball bowl. Your whittling could make some gorgeous spindles both top and bottom whorl. I understand poverty,3yrs of fatigue and weakness not being able to work, doesn't look treatable . When I can't do what I used to do I do what I can with the cheapest things I already have. Good luck.
Yes, I split them some before wetting and rolling, this yarn is incredible easy to felt so it doesn't need much persuasion :D Mathias has started to comb our own wool and have dried some wood to make a spindle, so i guess we will try it as soon as the spindle are done :) I also want to make more felting with our wool, making blankets and such. Fatigue are a real big problem, I wish you health and calm, have a lovely weekend! /Tova
You have such a relaxed atmosphere... very pleasant! I very like your vlogs and blog! :)
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the great video.. Never knew about Nalbinding - So I watched some utubes on it, and this morning my hubby made me a needle/shuttle, and I will be trying my hand. Thanks for sharing.. Tova- Something new to me :) since I spin, It is much how spinning works.. (But I don't spit-LOL) I am excited. Winters are a find time to work on those kind of projects. Mathias, your carving project is beautiful as well. Thanks for sharing you Winter's Day..
Oh- Beautiful camera work... Love your "New Beginnings" video.. Your combination of homecrafting for the baby is lovely!. Nothing but the finest...
I love that you express gratitude to your new patrons in each vlog.
You guys are so self sufficient and really creative.
Hello from Melbourne, Australia , I love watching your beautiful winter vlogs when we are experiencing very hot weather (37 degrees/98.6 fahrenheit with a hot north wind today.
I knit and crochet and really enjoyed hearing about your wool and needle binding method, very interesting. A vlog on how to do it would be fabulous.
I also love the vlog A Wooden Nest, she dyes natural Fibres with nature dyes, her vlog like yours I find very relaxing.
Congratulations on your news, how wonderful, Kathy xx
Hi Kathy, im glad if we can cool you down a bit with our videos! :D We will absolutely make a video about the needle binding technique, its such a fun way to make things! Thank you so much, its very exciting and unreal! /Tova
Lol the ladies want to be wined & dined 1st! 🤣, lol poor Steve, that’s what I’m calling him
So nice to have a stream close for water
I finally realized what I love about watching y'all! I get to actually WATCH y'all! I love when there is talk but it's so nice to just watch y'all do your activities! I never can really commit fully to channels cuz I get so tired of just hearing them talk so much! I think they just enjoy the sound of their voice🙄 Y'all are wonderful! Absolutely the best channel I'm subscribed to! Love from south Louisiana!❤️❤️
You inspire us to go back in the nature again. Love from UK
I hope you will win the competition.
I loved this video so much! Beautiful and artistic as always, but even in a more special way somehow. It is like we are becoming friends.
Thank you Cheryl
Cheryl, I had the very same feeling! Kept thinking "by far, this is my most favorite video!" Exception, of course, is the new 3 minute video announcement.
Would putting a tarp on top of your run help so you wouldn’t have to shovel snow inside and give the chickens a dry place to run around in? I enjoy your videos.
That is a good idea too, im not sure though if the fence would hold up very good in case of much snow, have to think about it! :D Thank you!
I'm an American born Swede my grandpa came here from Sweden as a child 🇸🇪 I've only just found your page by chance and I'm so glad i did! My hubby and I are getting caught up on all of your videos right now and we love it! This is actually the dream life we have been talking about for many years and we are learning a lot from your page and we have fun learning new things. My husband and I are both pretty well educated and experienced in many things so it's nice to see the many amazing things you both do. It seems like there's nothing you two can't do so far and is very impressive. It's such a breath of fresh air to see a young couple actually living and experiencing real life instead of listening to the fake and ignorant medias and news outlets spreading unnecessary fears and biases. I love that you both are so teachable and open to learning about things and how humble and grateful you both are. There's so much love and compassion and clearly so intelligent and i love that even more. It shows in your well behaved animals and your ability to be honest rather than try to boast about yourselves. Your animals are clearly well loved and cared for and when you are slaughtering for food it's done respectively and honorably. You both remind me of my husband and I so i feel very connected to you. I would love to see you make a dala horse to put abovev your farstu and i would purchase many of them from you if you start to make some! My grandpa used to but he's very old now and his rhumatoid arthritis is too bad now to make them but i have many i would love to buy genuine ones for as well as our own home too. Also my only critique i guess you could say is that i would love to either recommend or chat with you about the fascinating truth of plastics and the amazing microorganisms that eat them and break them down and what most plastics really are made of and the misconceptions about them. I guess that's not really a critique more like a comment about that lol. But it's a fascinating subject to me and so i think you might think so too if you know the right places to look where it's not biased and ridden with the money making lies usually being spitted out these days lol. Anyway wonderful vlog so far looking forward to seeing the rest and up to date! Thank you so much for not adding political opinions in your vlog too it's so nice to see and hear normal people just living life! I hope someday America can be normal like that too where everyone can just live their lives and become decent people. God bless! 🙏
Ahh, so sorry Tova on the job layoff. I hope everything works out for the best there.
It’s so fun watching you two work at the table with your projects. I would love to learn more about the needlebinding if you are up for making a video. It looks like it makes such a good, sturdy fabric. Beautiful texture, too.
And yes! I had a feeling some of the folks from the knitting community would love your channel. Such beautiful work. I have no doubt you will be successful. 🖤
Thank you, its sad because the loss of income but at the same time I feel relieved because my bosses where terrible! I also like the prospect of not getting up at 4.40 am every morning ;) Im sadly not an early bird person. We will absolutely make a tutorial, just need to collect some information first so we can make it a good one! Such a wonderful technique ! Have a lovely week! /Tova
Hi more than 25 years ago had a jobtrip to sweeden .in autem.then we had a meeting with a company 200 km far from stockholm toward north in city was calked morgardshamer .our trip was held in highway throw a beautiful woods with each color that you guess.any way the company which invited me dispatch a beautiful room like off grid cabin in the jungle far from the city .every thing was made by wood espicially bathroom .temprature wasnt under zero but weather was so cool.in cabin wasnot fire place and the heating system was prepared by using electricity.the area was liked a motel with seperate room .i had a good time and stayed 2 nights.sweeden is one of the so beautiful country in the word with calm and respectd and high cultured peoples in the word.one of so wired thing that i saw in morgardhammer was couldnot find any policeman or sherife in this city .i think its population was more than 100000 but the peoples respect each other and law .
I love how relaxing this channel is. 💕
Thank you, im glad you like it!
Thanks for this great video ! I love the atmosphear ! ( not quite sure of the spelling ! 😉) and yes I see and know what a hell amont of work that is. I love the kindness you treat your animals with.
You are wonderful. Yesterday I discovered and hate your films, all. You have a very good energy, an atmosphere and an amazing beauty of nature but also yours as humans.
I’d love to learn how to make a hat like you’re making. I can relate to the shoveling, we get a lot of snow here in Canada❄️
Then we will make a video about it for sure! :D Yeah, and now when it got warm again it all fell off the roof, and that was real heavy to shovel away, the joys of winter huh?! ;D
All the Best !
If you build a box that your sheep water trough can fit Into and keep it filled with raw chicken and sheep manure under the bottom and around the sides of the water trough it should heat up from the composting process and keep your water thawed.
How he loves his sheep made me smile so big. Omgoodness
I would call the knit cap a toque, (rhymes with Luke).
I'm sorry your having a hard time finding work and money. Keep your chin up!
Beautiful video. I hope you win on the competition. It was a lovely video. 🤰🤱 Congratulations. How many chicken eggs do you gather per week? Thank you for your reply. I love your sheep. I would be very interested in buying your homemade merchandise. You can tell your heart is in each thing you create. Made with love. ❤
Thank you so much! Well for now our chicks have gone into their winter rest so unfortunately no eggs at all or maybe one egg if we are lucky in a day. Towards spring they will start up again :) We are seriously thinking about making and selling, so maybe one day :D Have a lovely weekend! /Tova
my hens don't lay eggs in winter at all
@@tetianatet7395 it depends a little on the weather for us. They haven't been laying anything for some weeks now. But a couple of days ago some of them seem to have started, so now we get one to four eggs a day.. It has been weirdly mild temperatures of plus degrees Celsius for some time now.
Always a pleasure to tune into one of your videos. Looks like winter has hit. Must be cold there. That snow looked light and fluffy. I just love the rabbit cages. Loved by all your animals. Just the way I like it. Have a great night and stay warm you two..
Thank you so much! Its not so cold right now, maybe -7 C or something, quite pleasant ! But it hit us early this year, so much snow! Have a wonderful weekend!
You guys are very humble: Words to Patrons, like "proud" and "thankful" speak volumes for your attitude and views. You guys are role models for creators, and will be very successful. Keep it up and thank you!
I think that you guys a little to often ask for money and that I do not like
would love to see a tutorial about that type of needle work I do loom weaving , if you make enough a lot of people would love to buy products from you , people loves handmade crafts and sheep skins let me know when you start selling I would love to get some things from you
Thank you so much Sandra, we will make a tutorial when i have prepared some and then we will put more thought into selling crafts! :D /Tova
love from Czech Republic
I have a couple questions .1 Does mailman bring mail to you? Or you have to drive to post office?
#2 Do you wash clothes by hand the old way or use washing machine? Thanks!
We dont have an actual adress so we get our mail to the village. So far we havent figured out the washing of clothes, so we wash in the village until we do! :)
I have been taught to start Nalbinding from the top of the hat. I spin, weave and crochet.
Yes, you can do that also, im not sure why we always start from the bottom. You have a lot of knowledge then! :)
Hi Mathias, you should buy a cheap tractor with a loader so you can clear a path through the snow and many other important projects around the farm. I bought one for my farm and makes work so much easy. Just a suggestion, it’s a good investment
Yes, I guess we should. It is just that we never have any money..
Talasbuan oh it’s all good my friend. You do good with what you got. Love your videos
@@alfaman4113 Thanks! Some day we'll have a traktor! I would really like to have a semi sized one with a snowblower. The amount of snow we get is sometimes too much for small tractors unless you have the blower
Very sorry to hear about the job Tova... in the states we call that getting “layed-off”... not Fired! Fired for us is usually bad! U know when u dont show up or work poorly or smack the boss!! Yikes! We know u didnt do that!! Im just listing examples for being fired. Sometimes one can be re-hired if economy changes. I assume u both have health care, yes?
Aha, yeah, i guessed it was something like that but i didn't know the proper term, but i trust people here, like you did, knows what I mean anyway ;) In Sweden everyone has health care, depending on where you live better or worse. /Tova
Do you guys have a ETSY account . Another good place to sell on line. Spoons and bowls sell good hikeing sticks and self bows take a special buyer that understands how long it takes to carve thing's. So good to see some one young getting the old world tools to use again. I am a carver I use small knifes and gouges. Once in a while I use a electrical rotary tool tto remove the bulk of the background, always finish by hand. Love what both you are doing.
We have been thinking about getting a etsy account, someday :D Thank you!
Steve is the man and a handsome one at that!!
Your snow is very beautiful!!
hey, i'm from asia, i don't really understand how about the four seasons country, how do you meet all your electricity needs like for charging and others during winter?I always watch your every episode and I like it very much
I really appreciate you talking to us in English. I enjoy your channel so much, and he is a very handsome man with blonde hair!
Yes he is 😄 /Tova
I have just subscribed and I am loving your videos!! I live in Canada so understand winter and the work that goes along with animals. We too have chickens, ponies, dogs and cats. Our life is not as remote as your so I love watching how you cope with life in the winter with so many dark hours in such a tiny home. Blessing to you from canada❤️❤️🇨🇦❤️
I would absolutely LOVE a tutorial on how you make your hat...and rubbing wool together is Felting
Then we will make one :D /Tova
Your guys land is very beautiful very lucky to be living off the land. Good luck guys
I like this intimate video of your day outside and hanging out after talking , having drinks etc.. great video !
Thank you so much Joe, we are glad you liked it!
Always enjoy the videos! I would like to know what drone you used to have for all the amazing drone footage. I would like to help to replace it for you 😁 Good luck with the competition! I really hope you win! You all deserve it!
I believe you can use tarp above chicken shed ,the one you were cleaning at the beginning of the video.
Will help you a lot.
Steady work, maybe it’s meant for you to move on & grow!
Lovely video! Whats kombuscha in Swedish? Saft?
I think its called Kombucha everywhere, fermented tea. Saft is more like really sweet lemonade :)
Very very good video work keep it up you guys
Thank you so much!
That's some big balls...
Joining to ends of wool that way is felting. I am teaching my self Nalbinding.
I love you guys 🥰🥰
Aww, thank you!
Wow you make your own hats!! That's so awesome! I would love to see that technique. And whenever you make something with your own wool I'd love to see the process from your wool into a hat (for example).
I love your videos guys, you are really inspiring. It's my dream to have, one day, a farm with cows and chickens... Thank you so much for sharing your videos and experience!! Videoing and editing seems really hard but you guys are doing a really good job. Lots of love!!
Please dont get negative. You are both figters. We love you. I learn so much from you
As soon as i have money i will make a contibution every month. Sometimes the same and sometimes more depends on my income. In South Africa we work with Rand / $3 in my rand is R35.00
