I can kinda see why people don’t like Verse as a character. I mean look at him. He looks like he came from a JRPG. But I can’t bring myself to hate him. I like the change in final boss type that KOF 14 did. Instead of being a humanoid that turns demon-like, he, or rather it, is already a demon. His design is awesome and his theme definitely comes to the greatness of other final boss themes in this series. I just like Verse, ok?
To think, Verse was born from Ash's decision to try to stop Saiki from returning to the past... and thus his soul along with who knows HOW MANY OTHERS are part of Verse's anger and destructive nature. And it isn't the first time either KOF has had mythical properties for a boss... so I don't see the problem with Verse.

Some of the endings in XIV hint of who gets brought back, like Orochi in Team Japan and Team Yagami's endings with Kyo, Iori, and Chizuru sealing Orochi away again, or Ash in Team Official Invitation due to Elizabeth hiring Kukri to find Verse so Ash could be saved from within him, etc.

I have an idea on how to improve this fight: If Verse is the amalgamation of the souls of characters who died in the events of previous games, wouldn’t it make sense for his moveset to be an amalgamation of their movesets? He could have moves like Orochi’s Shield-counter, Goenitz’s Wind pillar, Shermie’s Handstand-kick, Rugal’s Genocide Cutter, Ash’s Pin+ Flame to the face, Igniz’s Blue and Red Noahs, even some sword moves from Mizuki. And so on.
He's pretty weak for a kof boss. I killed him pretty easily even in maximum difficultly. I guess fighting with Magaki all the time in 8 difficulty made him too easy for me.
Oh. I had to ask because while bosses have been playable sometimes in the past, Dark Ash and Saiki's boss forms weren't. Is he balanced at all for competitive play, or ... ?
I am not sure, myself, but I do know that Verse obviously is meant to be pretty powerful since he is a boss, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was balanced a bit as a playable character. Also, aesthetically, I find Verse to be a cooler looking boss than Saiki's boss form or Dark Ash.

It's not the old kof that is thrilling like orochi saga but mix of kof96 and bullshitness made of Devil may cry, tekken and street fighter graphics
