@@elbruces I mean he did have a backstory tbf. Scanlan's big thing was finding someone he could love and be loved in return. The twist was that Sam thought it was going to be be Pyke or another romantic relationship and Matt made it this
It’s the Barney Stinson story from HIMYM - a Lothario who secretly searches for and can’t find love because they conflate it with sex, but finds it not through romance but through becoming a parent.
So, something Sam Riegel pointed out in the Q&A that I definitely missed is that Raishan forgot to put the mole on Yennen's cheek when taking her form. It's really easy to miss, but it technically makes it possible to realize sooner that she's been replaced.
I loved the opening, just the fact that “Grandpa Scanlan” is now what Scanlan considers the best dream. Learning he is a father does such a number on Scanlan, Kamaljiori knew what he was talking about, Scanlan just needed to let love find him.
Fun thing about critters, especially the ones working on this show. We’re gonna welcome you in and leave bread crumbs and Easter eggs for you to get just as hooked as us. For instance, there is a very poignant yet uplifting letter that a guest character wrote to KeyKey about “passing through fire” during the campaign that they couldn’t find the best way to add in. So someone got together and animated in a cypher of that letter on to the book Scanlan was reading from in the beginning.
Umbrasyl: *assists in decimating Emon* Us: he seems bad Umbrasyl: *razes Westeron with the help of Kevdak* Us: Kevdak sucks! Go Grog! Umbrasyl: *decapitates an already deceased Kamaljiori* Us: OH HE IS 💀!!!!
just a small correction to something you said in the intro. Percy already knows Ripley is alive, from the black powder merchant in Episode 2. He doesn't, however, know she's working with the Conclave.
I love how fast you transitions from "This Dragon is bad news and I don't like him because I know I shouldn't." to "Fuck you, I hate you!" Writers know how to tug at those heart strings
Love how Vex went from being almost adversarial with Keyleth to now knowing Keyleths abilities so well that she can just say "Ready Kiki?" and knows exactly what she will do.
Many lines from the campaign live in my head, but Sam trapped inside a dragon saying "I would like to fist the wound", will always hold a special and unsettling place.
In the tabletop game, the description of Mythcarver mentioned that it was "once owned by the White Duke himself", which is widely thought to be a hat-tip to David Bowie.
@@funnylilgalreacts I love it too, as so easily leads my mind into other works such as Moorcock's Elric and the Dancers at the End of Time. PS in the tabletop game, Sam as Scanlan repeatedly refused to use Mythcarver, and here we see it go: something that was left for much later in the original stream .
If you like angsty boys, nerdy boys, lanky boys, and redheaded boys you are gonna *love* the Mighty Nein... you know, when it comes out in 5 years or whatever.
It'll be coming out within a year. Amazon isn't gonna wait five years to make money off it when they already have a pilot script and did a teaser video for it.
@@BlunderMunchkin I hope so. I just remember them talking about how long animation takes. They mentioned that they recorded some lines for S2 back in 2020. But I would be so delighted if it came out sooner.
@@mayaenglish5424 "When Vox Machina was exhausted and all hope seemed lost, the animator suffered a fatal heart attack! Thordak, the Cinder King was no more."
Season 3 of LoVM will come out before Season 1 of the Mighty Nein because they started Season 3 as soon as Season 2 wrapped. Plus in the MN announcement, they said production would "begin soon." But yes, I hope we get both in the same year.
It doesn't make much sense to do MN before the final season of Vox Machina considering how the events of Vox Machina would be a part of history and something they could and should make references to in MN, just small things like a certain firbolg reading a book written by a certain Darrington are references we should get in the first season of MN.
It says so much about Scanlan that having a daughter and grandchildren and just being a father and grandfather is what Scanlan considers "the best dream". That having a daughter doesn't just give him an obligation to live up to, to make up for. That this actually makes him happy is so great.
Absolutely love how Marisha as Keyleth delivered that "Raishan" when the reveal happened. So much restrained anger and fury just from a name being spoken… a tempest is brewing in her…
You have quickly become my favorite RUclips reactor! I would love to see you react to battlestar galactica. It's an amazing character piece. So well written and acted. Whatever you choose, I'll be watching 😀
Just a little something I thought you might have picked up on, Raishan is a green dragon, and has green eyes. We haven't seen her at all since episode 1. They did leave a little hint in there that she was capable of taking any human form.
This is exactly what many of us backing the kickstarter were hoping for - to be able to see Critical Role share this amazing story with incredible characters through a new medium! I've enjoyed watching the reactions from you and other reactors out there, and I don't think any of us would disagree that we hate having to wait so long for next season. But we are all so glad we get one! We've got The Mandalorian, Bad Batch, Guardians of the Galaxy, (hopefully) Honor Among Thieves...so much good stuff to enjoy! Don't forget to love each other out there, fellow Critters!!!
Bidet Angela! What.A. Finale. I watched the campaign years ago, so I shouldn't have been surprised by what occurred...but this show manages to make known story beats still surprising. Keep up the great work.
Kraghammer was the very first arc on the stream and the original introduction to VM. The party was tasked by Allura to find Kima down in the mines. I would love to see your reaction to Exandria Unlimited Calamity. It's a mini series of Critical Role where they show the events leading to the creation of the Vestiges of Divergence, and it's phenomenal
I feel like Keyleth is working on overcoming her fears, therefore she's embracing her feelings for Vax. She's not going to reject him again, not after Vex encouraged her to not let him lose himself.
Yeah that seems pretty obvious to me. I don't get why people find Keyleth and Vax confusing. It wasn't that Keyleth didn't like him, it was that she was overwhelmed and afraid of everying and didn't know how to even attept taking on a relationship, and with Vax it isn't that he doesn't love her anymore, it's that he's not sure his life his is own anymore so he doesn't know what he even can offer someone because, as much as he knows so far, the Matron might have to be his one and only! They're both just still trying to figure it out.
I love how much you love Scanlan's story so far! It's definitely a great example of Matt turning the player's expectations around on them. Like Sam kind of made a big deal that Scanlan has always been looking for love, yearning for it- and he and everyone else assumed that meant romantic love. Butt Matt threw Kaylie in there like "Surprise! It was actually familial love all along!" and it made for such a good story xD
so I just stumbled upon your page and watched your whole vox machina playlist. Absolutely loved seeing it from your perspective, so cool seeing what you make of it not seeing the campaign beforehand. Looking forward to your reactions to season 3, ITS FINALLY HERE NEXT MONTH Keep being awesome !!!
Vax earns the Deathwalker's Ward wings when he 1. accepts that he could fall to his death and 2. prioritizes saving his friend over his own life. We love a man who embraces his boss' aesthetic the SECOND he learns what it is. XD
great callback to Wendy Peffercorn of The Sandlot! Another classic movie connection: The dead Sphinx they showed from the earlier episode? He was voiced by the guy that played El Jefe from The Three Amigos, the one that did not know what a plethora was rofl Once again, another amazing battle scene. I know Percy is your guy... but you gotta admit, when you saw Vax pop those wings, for just a second at least you were swooning. Maybe that's why you forgot about Percy for a little bit at the end lol btw, remember the little girl that glared at Grog when they escaped the initial dragon attack on Emon? The one with the green eyes?... yep, Raishan! hiding all along.
You talked about wondering why Keyleth seemed to be approaching Vax when she rejected him before, saying she had responsibilities- it's complicated! She still has responsibilities, yes, but her feelings aren't going away. They're getting stronger. Couple that with her getting a little more confident, and a little more wise, and realizing they could all die at any moment.. And she may be a little more willing to be a little selfish, where her heart is concerned. We'll see if anything comes of that in season 3!
@@RustyChilders Spoilers from the campaign: Considering becoming the new leader of the air Ashari means she prolongs her lifespan by about 1000 years, the fear and the obligations kind of go hand in hand. She's scared of the fact that if she completes her Aramente like she's supposed to she's going to outlive everyone she loves, including Vax. By a whole lot.
And besides, how would you want to live such a life? Alone, without ever taking a chance? Even if it hurts you in the end? Besides, at a time like this, with everything going wrong, they both need each other. Because they support each other. That is the core of their relationship: they are each other's pillar.
Ahahahaha, I love that you made a Sandlot reference. What a classic. _Edit_ Also, that outro to this video was so precious. It's been a joy watching these two seasons with you, and I'm looking forward to many more. 💝
In the campaign, Vax found out he had wings by asking Gilmore to Identify (magically scan) his armor, and Gilmore went, “Huh, cool!” and threw Vax off a tower so that the wings would appear. Vax then took Gilmore on a (slightly romantic) brief flight. What they did in Legend of Vox Machina was so much more epic and carried a lot more narrative weight, but the mental picture of Gilmore throwing Vax off a tower will always be hilarious to me. 😂
@@funnylilgalreactsThey changed quite a bit for the show tbh! Every major thing still happens but there's a lot of CR of people walking around talking, not a lot of "plot" (nor was the plot planned that way, it's DnD). So they've consolidated a bunch of moments and changed timeline of things a bit!
@@Mnkeyshonestly, it’s probably the best adaptation I’ve ever seen considering the original story wasn’t scripted, and especially because of HOW MUCH content there is. An incredible example of making changes that fit the medium and enhance the story
5:24 I'm kind of assuming that we're not going to get the Pike backstory about the hair in the show because they have messed up the timeline a bit too much for that. Unless they change the circumstances significantly. I think it was mostly put in there so that us campaign nerds would be happy and wouldn't complain about how _"Technically_ her hair should be blah blah blah."
If you find your self needing a smile, Critical Role has your back. Just check out “Scanlan’s songs” for an hour of Sam Riegel singing cheeky renditions of hit songs to literally inspire and heal his friends If you’re itching for thrills, check out Exandria: An Intimate history for a Matt Mercer narrated history lesson of this world, then Exandria Unlimited: C A L A M I T Y for twenty hours of terror, drama, love, and humor. The best live play dnd you’ll ever find
Another handy thing about those shows is they give some background history and context for the world, that might be helpful for when the show comes back.
I agree tho I'm kinda wary directing to Exu Calamity now since it's likely going to get a movie, it's the only movie worthy material they have rn that makes sense to be released since the others require VM and MN stories to be finished
I struggle to see how anything but LOVM S3 is next, since Sam said they’re actively casting for it as of the first Q&A/watch along. Mighty Nein is barely in pre-production, and creating all those designs is gonna take awhile. We’d be lucky to see it by 2025. Besides C A L A M I T Y, they could do Search for Grog between LOVM s4 or s5 or however long it runs. Don’t get me wrong, I would kill for C A L A M I T Y but any movie seems a ways away.
I’l ditto the suggestion for Calamity, for personal fun if not streaming reactions - I do not recall any big spoilers for campaigns 1,2, or 3 in there, and it has some of the best drama and comedy in Critical Role you’ll find. You will also fall in love with Brennan Lee Mulligan as the GM
When Matt introduced kaylie he was very much intending to have her fight scanlan (in a scene very similar to the show), but Sam improvised this fairly beautiful speech off the cuff so Matt said, damn make a persuasion check “with advantage” (greatly increases success odds), which worked. Such an important narrative moment that stemmed from Sam being such a good improv actor. It’s a fun clip to check out from the stream (won’t have any spoilers now)
@@mayaenglish5424 Haha, thank you, it was half remember from years ago, but he did get a "amazing speech" advantage? I think i will have to go rewatch that scene now.
One upside to normal life getting busy, I had this reaction as a bonus treat 1 week after episode 12. :) Thank you again for the past weeks of fun, watching you having fun with this show. Now we all wait for next season.
Another heart-warming reaction 😊. I believe Raishan is also called "the Diseased Deceiver", a name she definitely earned. She can change her shape and mask herself even from someone with Vex's ability.
Raishan is the smart dragon. In episode 1, she recognized Kiki from seeing her through the crystal and was the magic using one that Scanlan called out. If you remember at the end of the episode 1, there was the little green-eyed girl who had fled through the portal the Critters were freaking out about. Raishan recognized during the first attack VM was her key to victory and followed them immediately.
@@funnylilgalreacts Also I think you asked about Raishan's motivation. Her Motivation is literally on the screen at the end when she was talking to VM.
I wonder why they didn't give Raishan the same bright green eyes that that girl had. It would have made the connection much more obvious. Was the eye colour different because of her spellcasting, like when Vorugal turned on true sight in episode 1?
Oh man, I just noticed something in this reaction I had missed previously. At 9:06 the portrait of Vox Machina in the background has Vax wearing Robbie Daymond's (one of the players from Exandria: Unlimited for those who are unfamiliar) beard and mustache. 🤣
I just want to say thank you and I had an amazing time watching this reaction. Kind of going through some things right now and watching along with has been a great comfort. Thank you again.
Just wanted to say Thank You Angela. I've really enjoyed your reactions to not only Legend of Vox Machina, but to lots of your other content. You're really fun to watch.
Have to say, as a recent viewer, you reaction videos to Legend of Vox Machina have been amazing. You are the exact kind of viewer every Critter would have wished as a long-time fan. You get invested, you care about the characters, you talk a lot about the show and you learn about stuff from commenters. Knowing what comes next, I can assure you, the show won't dissapoint. The story of Vox Machina has been near and dear to my heart for years now and seeing other people experience it is awesome. Hope you enjoy the rest of the show and I'll say you've earned another subscriber!
Remember the tough little girl with green eyes from episode 1... I have a weird feeling that Thordak is creating dragonborn/draconians. Look them up. Or, omg, super Kobolds!! Yea, sadly, we have a year to go.
"We didn't need to have the journey back out!" Hey, some poor animator worked hard on that dragon's pooper, and they'll be damned if we only get to see it once!
Before Scanlan met Kaylie, life was a joke. Anything could happen and he would be fine with it. Now that he knows he has a daughter, he needs to be careful. If he wants her to be in his life, he needs to stay alive. That is the real reason he is afraid. He has stuff to prove.
Your opening hopes and analysis are top notch per usual. Your takes and depth on Kaylie/Scanlan are unrivaled from all the reactions I’ve seen. Dig it. Matt giving Kaylie to Sam & Scanbo was genius fun. Please keep making up words. You do you.
Found your channel from your Honor Among Thieves reaction and now binged your reactions to TLoVM in two days. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your experience with us. I was luckily an early "Critter" and started watching just months into the first campaign when it was running. Your reactions have been "absolutely delightful" to watch, and so appreciated. Also, R.I.P. Lance Reddick. He did so well voicing Thordak, and we're incredibly lucky to have had his talent contribute to such an extraordinary villain. I'll be sad but excited to see who fulfills the role for the rest of Thordak's appearances in however many seasons he's our big baddie.
We had to wait several years to get the first season after the Kickstarter, then had to wait for a year after the first season, so yeah, waiting sucks, but it is so worth it. This season has kicked it up from last year. I can't wait for next season. You can tell that this is a work of love for all involved. Great reactions. Love watching them with you.
Plus they might.... might (purely speculation) release the mighty nein layer this year so if that's the case the wait isn't that long for critical role content
You're a quarter Japanese too? I feel like I never see anyone else like me out there on the interwebs (or in real life) it's nice to know I'm not alone :). I haven't watched much myself because I don't have a Dropout subscription, but I hear great things about Dimension 20. They have shorter more bite-sized campaigns. It's a little more produced then Critical Role but the energy at the table is genuine from what I've seen.
09:40 One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet, and I take no credit because it was pointed out to me by others ... If you translate the page Scanlan is reading in his dream, it's the wording from a letter sent to Keyleth from a guest character Kerrek, played by Patrick Rothfus. Another fun reminder a lot of the artists were also long standing fans of the original stream. They met him in Westruun but he sent this letter later, and Rothfus recorded himself reading it and sent the audio to the Crit Role team to play for the table. 💙 The algorithm only just put you in front of me, so I have just crashed my way through your entire LoVM run in two days 😆 You've been my favourite reaction to a series I absolutely love. Looking forward to seeing you tackle the next couple of seasons when they come out!
I never commented on your pronunciation of Umbrasyl bc I don't think it's that important. But you kept trying so I wanted you know you got it right a few times and really close many more in these last couple episodes. So. Good work.
"Just a silly cartoon, about a funny little game." Remember the little green eye girl from episode 2-1? Matt Mercer plays the long game. For the record, Kraghammer was the point of start of stream for Critical role. Almost 8 years ago, nearly to the day (March was episode 1)
Keep in mind what Raishan (the Diseased Deceiver) actually said; she could have meant "I hate Thordak as much as you (do)," or "I hate Thordak as much as (I hate) you." That being said, it might be nice to have a dragon on their side, for once...
I truly love how this show takes you from bawling your eyes out to belly laughs in a space of a moment. For us critters... We deal with our lack of Legends of Vox Machina by watching the stream. I'm guessing you have a pretty full plate so 4 hours of content (not for reactions just to enjoy) is hard for you. But if you did want to try it, start with Campaign 3. That way you don't get any spoilers for the Mighty 9. That or if you want something a bit more serious... Check out Exandrea Unlimited:Calamity it's masterful storytelling on the part of Brennan Lee Mulligan.
So in game, Grogs size is pushed to a higher sized creature while using rhe Titan Stone Knuckles. Larger creatures take less fall damage. During the session, this saved Grog from an insta death with like single digit hp
@@thehappyaipom From what I recall (and just looked up) Grog doesn't fall to the ground at this moment in the game, Scanlan grabs him with the hand then polymorphs him into an Eagle (making him smarter by accident), then Keyleth bamfs up to them riding Eagle Grong and falls out of the air as an earth elemental (a "Keyteor" as I think the joke goes) and smashes into the ground, so I think they used that moment as an inspiration for this. I do remember Grog falling and using the knuckles to gain size before hitting the ground but I cant remember when that was.
@El ok that makes more sense. I know it happened, I'm mixing the two events up. I just assumed the size change had something to do with it mechanics wise. It's been awhile since I played myself. The rules are just as rusty as Crit role campaign 1 events haha
If anything, a larger creature should take more damage for being heavier. (×2 size = ×8 mass. momentum ×8 = force of impact ×4 to ×8, depending on factors of impact time and air resistance.. anyway, maybe just ×2 fall damage for each size category above medium, ÷2 dmg for each smaller size.)
It sort of hit me that when Osysa was going through everyone's insecurities back in episode 2, most of which came up again throughout the season, she said about Scanlan: _"No one cares about you. I'm no different."_ And _that_ was the reason Scanlan was able to kill Umbrasyl. Everyone, even his own party to a large extent, forgot about him. Umbrasyl didn't even notice that he wasn't fighting or that he was absent from the rest of the group. He didn't care to think of him as a threat so it never occurred to him to keep Scanlan on his radar and that's how Scanlan got the jump on him. Because he was ignored until it was too late.
“I love our team!” LoVM does a terrific job lMHO of showing how TTRPGs and D & D in particular highlights the strengths (and possibly weaknesses) of a party (which often feels like a family in my table’s games). Deadly boss battles usually come down to multiple huge moments/rolls for multiple players regardless of who gets the killing blow. We often use our turns to save someone and it often feels “last second” even if it’s not.
I've enjoyed every one of your reactions to this show! I'm sad we have to wait a year. But I would recommend to you the behind the scenes looks they put out before the first season started. There are six videos - The Legend of the Story of Vox Machina, The Legend of the World of the Legend of Vox Machina, The Legend of the Design of the Legend of Vox Machina, The Legend of the Voices of the Legend of Vox Machina (main cast), The Legend of the Music of the Legend of Vox Machina, and the Legend of the Cast of the Legend of Vox Machina (other characters). It's about season 1, but it really gives a fascinating insight into what went into creating the show. I would love to see your reactions to those!
Hi Angela! It's been a while since I've written a comment on any of your videos. In answer to your question about what series that you should react to while waiting for the next season of LoVM, these are my suggestions: 1) Thundarr The Barbarian (1980 - 1982) - Imagine if someone took Conan The Barbarian, Star Wars, Planet Of The Apes, and The Road Warrior, and mixed them together into a Saturday morning cartoon aimed at children, and you will have Thundarr The Barbarian. The animation style isn't as advanced as in today's cartoons, but it was cutting edge in its day. So if you do react to it, please judge it by what it was when it first aired, and not compare it to more modern shows that have better technology and/or are aimed at a more mature audience. There are only 21 episodes, so reacting to them won't take much time at all. 2) Conan The Adventurer: TAS (1992 - 1994) - A child friendly adaptation of the character and setting created by Robert E Howard. The animation style is more modern, and the series has a story thread linking all of the episodes to each other, rather than being a villain of the week style like Thundarr The Barbarian. Despite being made for kids, it is very well written and has some dark themes. There's a total of 65 episodes over the two seasons, so it'll take a lot longer to react to them all. 3) Dungeons & Dragons: TAS (1983 - 1985) - This series was my introduction to the D&D brand. I'd never heard of the game before I saw this cartoon. Like the above mentioned series, the subject matter was watered down to make it more kid friendly. However, the writers and producers did their best to maintain the spirit of the game. The show follows a group of six teenagers (well, four teenagers and a couple of tweens) as they find themselves trapped in a magical realm of Dungeons and Dragons and they struggle to get back home. There are 27 officially released episodes over three seasons. The 28th and final episode, which was meant to be a series finale, was written but never produced. However, some fans took the script and made a fully animated version of the last episode (Dungeons & Dragons: Requiem) and posted it here on RUclips. Reacting to the D&D cartoon will take a little longer than reacting to Thundarr, but not as long as reacting to the Conan cartoon. Live Action Series 1) Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1994 - 1999) - This series stars Kevin Sorbo in the titular role of Hercules. It starts with a series of made for TV movies (Hercules and the Amazon Women, Hercules and the Circle of Fire, Hercules in the Underworld, etc) in 1994, which then lead to the series proper which started in 1995. If you can find the movies on DVD/BluRay then I suggest starting with those. However, they are hard to come by, so it's understandable if you start with the first episode of the first season. The show ran for six seasons, with typically 22 episodes per season, so theres a total of about 132 episodes to react to. 2) Xena: Warrior Princess (1995 - 2001) - Xena is a spinoff of Hercules, and went on to become a monster hit on its own. It also ran for six seasons with an average of 22 episodes per season, so that's another 132 episodes to react to. IMOHO I think that the show jumped the proverbial shark in Season 5, when Lucy Lawless (and as a result, her character, Xena) became pregnant. I don't like how they worked the pregnancy into the show. I can think of at least three ways that they could have done so without jumping the shark. But that's all that I'll say, in case you haven't seen it and decide to react to the series on your channel. 3) Conan The Barbarian TV Series (aka Conan The Adventurer: 1997 - 1998) - Starred Ralf Moeller in the titular role of Conan. It was meant to be a quasi-spinoff of the Arnold Schwarzenegger Conan movies, with Ralf Moeller taking over the role of Conan. The hope was to ride the popularity of Hercules and Xena and become its own hit show. Sadly the ratings wouldn't support renewing the show for a second season, so there's only 22 episodes. The quality wasn't quite as good as the above mentioned shows (I personally found the fight choreography to be severely lacking), but it was still pretty enjoyable. 4) Beastmaster: The Series (1999 - 2002) - The Beastmaster is an adaptation of the cult classic 1982 movie of the same name, which itself is a loose adaptation of a series of science fiction novels, also called Beastmaster. It ran for three seasons for a total of 66 episodes. I didn't like it as much as Hercules and Xena, but better than Conan. I felt that the writing wasn't as good as Hercules and Xena, but the fight choreography was better than Conan. But i might be judging it too hard because I am a big fan of the 1982 film. 5) The Adventures Of Sinbad (1996 - 1998) - Another series trying to cash in on the popularity of Hercules and Xena at the time, The Adventures of Sinbad ran for 2 seasons and a total of 44 episodes. I didn't watch this show very much, but the few episodes that I did catch I felt were pretty good. 6) Highlander: The Series (1992 - 1998) - This series is a spinoff/quasi-sequel to the cult classic movie The Highlander. I would suggest that you watch the Highlander movie first. However, keep in mind that in order to turn this movie into a franchise, they had to retcon some of the details of the movie. Otherwise, narratively speaking, the TV series would never work. But once you accept the changes that were made, the show itself is really quite excellent. It ran for six seasons, with an average of 22 episodes per season, for a total of about 132 episodes. The series does start to lose steam at around Season 5, but there's generally more good to be found than bad. So . . . Those are my recommendations. I hope that you decide to react to at least some of them. Or maybe put them onto a poll for people to vote on, and let the votes decide. Either way, I'm sure that you'll have fun watching them.
You should watch their making of stuff, particularly "the legend of the cast of the legend of vox machina". Travis willinghams spooktacular is also great
13:37 You haven't watched the campaign so just to let you know Liam (Vax) has the lucky feat which allows him to re-roll things a certain amount of times per day. So VAX in particular saying that there's no such thing as luck is so funny. It's also perfectly in character for what he's going through with the Matron (The game mechanic being interpreted as fate by the character, etc), but I still was like, _OK LIAM_ Mr. "I"ll Use Luck" says Luck doesn't exist, _Sure_ lol.
The power of a dragon is determined by 2 things: their age, and their hoard. Thordak is essentially accelerating the power of the newly hatched dragon army with the gold he's acquiring. Also, they foreshadowed (briefly) that dragons of different chroma don't get along in the first episode of this season. That's why it was such a shock and harbinger of doom to see them working together. Couple all of that with all the dragon eggs being in a seat of fire (insinuating that they are all fire dragons of Thordak) and that dragons are naturally highly intelligent and cunning, and it's not hard to see where Raishan is coming from, turning on Thordak and going to Vox Machina to work with them against him: She would rather deal with them after Thordak is out of the picture than go against Thordak and his army alone. Don't sweat it if Mighty Nein comes out before the next season of Vox Machina: where VM are a bunch of heroes that happen to be assholes, MN are a self-proclaimed bunch of assholes that happen to be saving the world. I think you'll like their aesthetic and general vibe even more. Mollymauk is your spirit animal, Beauregard and Yasha are total badass awesome bombs, Caleb is a tormented soul/mood and a half all by himself, and if you're all about the dick jokes, haaaaave you met Jester? lol
Not to mention Nott who is the epitome of Sam Riegal's foreshadowing and creativity. There's also a few guests and a wise old yet young soul who I absolutely adore who joins later on.
Kraghammer was the very first mission we saw Vox Machina go on when they started live streaming their game. It was fun, they fought some Mind Flayers, Grog got kidnapped for a minute, and Grog tripped Vax which I mention because in retaliation Vax shaved off half of Grog’s beard while he slept.
Also even changes in different media from the source material that was in another media is not retconning. Retconning actually changes the history. Differences in the animated series from what happened in the table game does not change the history of what happened in the table game, so is not retconning. For example Marvel comics has retconned many, many things in their comics history. The MCU movies have also changed many things from the comics source material, BUT that is not retconning. It is just a difference in different media, which has it's own history.
The Kraghammer arc was also the source of some of the "favourite kills" montage from season one. Keyleth pushing the guy under the lava and Grog biting the tongue out of the monster were all bits from fights at the table.
search "Critical Role I would like to fist the wound" so you can see the reaction to Scanlan/Sam's escaped plan. Crookedking did a edited version that's two minutes long, should be the first video... it is very worth it. Scanland had polymorphed into a snake just prior to the start (explaining the drop the snake opening).
This was a super fun playlist to rewatch, Angela. 😃 Like with some good books/movies/tv shows, I got new things out of the second viewing. I hope more people go over this playlist again before S3. Thanks for keeping me company all day. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
@@funnylilgalreacts When I helped back the Kickstarter for this I was 112 pounds and didn't expect to live to see it air. Now, I'm almost as fit as I was 19 years ago in my early 30s when I received my injuries. I'm happy to remind you of this other unkillable entity. Now, to begin today's laborious exercise with your reaction to BSG S4E10.
What I really find so surprising is how you fall in love with these characters and story so easily. What makes it so much more special is when you realize that this phenomenal story unfolds because of the people playing in the story that Matt set up, and was entirely driven by the choices they made during it (and some good/bad) dice rolls. I am so happy you're one of us now Angela, and we're all so excited for the next season together.
Just a great episode to finish on. There's so much to squeeze into Season 3 that I hope Amazon are sensible enough to give them at least another two seasons and a movie. Really enjoyed your reviews and I have to say that even though I have an idea (from the original broadcast) of what is going to happen in the episodes it shows just how good these guys are as voice actors that you can get so emotionally invested in them as characters.
This show reminds me of the old Saturday morning cartoon Dungeons & Dragons show. Just an adult version of what a troupe of fantasy warriors would be like.
I have to suggest "Arcane" as a follow-up show... Another adult animated series based on a fantasy game, this time League of Legends. I watched it without knowing anything about the source material and absolutely loved it. Only one season so far, but season 2 is on the way. Regardless, seeing your reactions to Vox Machina's adventures has been a treat. I too missed the entire first campaign I started following Critical Role with the Mighty Nein campaign, so I've fallen in love with these characters through the animated series myself. You have that great mix of enthusiasm, humor and insight that makes for a great reaction host... Looking forward to more from you!
I love that though Pike isn't a stereotypicaly Holy Person, They still go to her for guidance, and she's still their moral center. She doesn't give morals of "don't drink" "don't curse" "don't fight" or whatever, but she gives moral advice of "The important things aren't easy" and other things that would soumd simplistic if I post it, but she is able to convey right.
Raishan is also known as The Diseased Deceiver, it is not unbelievable that she would have ways to evade Vex's Dragon Sense. I'm glad that you joined the Critters and looking forward to seeing your reactions to Season 3. If your looking to see more Critical Role without risking spoilers check out some of their one shots, most of them are in entirely different games. If your a fan of horror and mystery you should check out Shadows of the Crystal Palace which was GMed by Talisan (Percy's player).
An older live-action show that I would love to see you react to is Freaks and Geeks if you haven't seen it yet. It only ran for one season (18 episodes), but it was an amazing show, and it even had a D&D element towards the end of the season.
As a D&D player, the thing I like most about episodes 11 and 12 is how well they portray what a nightmare ancient dragons are to fight. It's not just that they are super strong and tough, but their speed makes it easy to pick on the more fragile party members, and their magic means they have no end of tricks. And above all else, they are smart. They been around for centuries and they know how to use their abilities to destroy puny adventurers.
Ok Angela, I just binged-watched your whole journey through those two seasons, watching you become a critter. And I absolutely loved all of it. Your reactions and commentary are really on another level. You're such a lovely, genuine, smart, cute, saucy, nerdy and wonderful funny lil' gal. Thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. (I love you too, and I wanna hug you.) Also, since you're interested in CR but are a tad afraid because of how huge it is, I would suggest watching "Exandria Unlimited: Calamity" - it's only four episodes and is a prequel to everything else. It is wonderful and packed full of amazing moments, and it might shed some light on some things. I'm sure you'd have a blast (even if you're not making reaction videos for it.)
Sam played one hell of a support character. By that I mean the music he plays during a battle usually plays a part in boosting allies or weakening enemies. His choices and rolls have been make or break moments in many situations.
Sam likes to play this adorable idiot, even at the table, but he has a keen tactical understanding about how his characters work, and often makes clutch plays. that it continues to surprise me just says how good he is at the first part.
I love this sudden appearance of cowardice in Scanlan. Sure, he's always been a bit flaky, but he hasn't ever ditched the party like this before. But, he also has never had anything to live for before. Now that he has Kaylie, his life has purpose and is worth a lot more to him. I think that's why he is suddenly so scared to die.
it's actually been part of the Scanlan in the animated show - when he has time to think about it. He was the one who had to be pulled through the "booty-ful" portal in S1E1. He later said that they had enough evidence to take back that they didn't have to go fight the Briarwoods in S1E10, and in this season, he made a huge point that they weren't able to fight the Conclave. Overcoming this fear has been his arc.
"I have a broom and you get fucking wings." is such sibling energy.
"your Laura is showing"
lmfao@@rptrrwr
"There's so many ways to fk with scanlan now that he has a daughter" was 100% Matt's thought process when he created Kaylie
"Oh, you think you wrote a backstory that doesn't tie you down to the world? Watch this..."
@@elbruces I mean he did have a backstory tbf. Scanlan's big thing was finding someone he could love and be loved in return. The twist was that Sam thought it was going to be be Pyke or another romantic relationship and Matt made it this
Even more random info, in the watch party for 7-9 on twitch, Sam said he modeled Scanlan off Eminem...
@@mattdrahos2662 ...that explains Dr. Dranzel...
This is a reference to Full Metal Alchemist
I loved the opening, just the fact that “Grandpa Scanlan” is now what Scanlan considers the best dream. Learning he is a father does such a number on Scanlan, Kamaljiori knew what he was talking about, Scanlan just needed to let love find him.
OMG i love this connection
My man let love find him just like Kam said. 🙂
Another fun little note: Scanlan's grandkids in the dream were voiced by Sam's RL children.
So someone got together and animated in a cypher of that letter on to the book Scanlan was reading from in the beginning.
didn't click like cos the Likes were at 69, LOL
that was Scanlans perfect futrue.
“There’s no such thing as luck.” Says the character who in game has the literal Lucky feat haha
I was thinking the same thing lmfao
Umbrasyl: *assists in decimating Emon*
Us: he seems bad
Umbrasyl: *razes Westeron with the help of Kevdak*
Us: Kevdak sucks! Go Grog!
Umbrasyl: *decapitates an already deceased Kamaljiori*
Us: OH HE IS 💀!!!!
To be fair, we already wanted him dead. He just kept digging that hole deeper. XD
* devastate, not decimate
just a small correction to something you said in the intro.
Yup! Goodbye Florida Man Dragon, you greasy, sleazy, fu*k bucket!
Not to be confused with Buck Fucket.
"When it matters, Scanlan shows up. "
I am so looking forward to your reaction to future developments.
omg
There's so many things I'd like to write in response to that, but no matter how I formulate it, it ends up hinting massively towards future events 🥲
Same! My only lament is that we have to wait for the future seasons
"That's why I got closer motherfucker!"
Nine.
Love how Vex went from being almost adversarial with Keyleth to now knowing Keyleths abilities so well that she can just say "Ready Kiki?" and knows exactly what she will do.
Yup, brilliant bit of character development over series 1 to 2.
10:07 They're like "Look, we were forced to animate this, you're going to suffer with us!"
That gave me cold chills!! I love that!!
👀
@@BlunderMunchkin I hope so. I just remember them talking about how long animation takes. They mentioned that they recorded some lines for S2 back in 2020. But I would be so delighted if it came out sooner.
@@BlunderMunchkin It's not really up to Amazon, there's only so much that is physically possible. We don't want to kill the animators after all.
Plus in the MN announcement, they said production would "begin soon."
But yes, I hope we get both in the same year.
"The dragon is so beautiful I hate it" I love this line 🤣
Absolutely love how Marisha as Keyleth delivered that "Raishan" when the reveal happened. So much restrained anger and fury just from a name being spoken… a tempest is brewing in her…
A tempest finding its voice
@@tycol322 hell yeah
I don't know you two, but I'm proud of you both here.
You have quickly become my favorite RUclips reactor! I would love to see you react to battlestar galactica. It's an amazing character piece. So well written and acted. Whatever you choose, I'll be watching 😀
Great suggestion!
It was amazing to see you fall into Critter-dom so rapidly. Lovely to be along with the ride with you. See you next season!
I've seen this like 3 times and I still giggled and teared up with you when Vax powered up with his wings. So badass and epic!
Just a little something I thought you might have picked up on, Raishan is a green dragon, and has green eyes. We haven't seen her at all since episode 1. They did leave a little hint in there that she was capable of taking any human form.
Are we talking Larkin or the fact she was absent from the meeting of the conclave
@@tycol322 probably yes. Always on Larkin Watch.
I love how Vax's embracing his destiny is the opening we've been seeing since season one.
I would’ve never realized it up until we see that thread and then it was like “oh yeah!”
I was one of those people who didn’t give animation a chance. Thanks for introducing me to this!
I love hearing this!!!!
Thanks Angela for your reviews on the first and second season. I'm looking forward what comes next
Looking forward to your reactions to season 3, ITS FINALLY HERE NEXT MONTH
Keep being awesome !!!
He was voiced by the guy that played El Jefe from The Three Amigos, the one that did not know what a plethora was rofl
Once again, another amazing battle scene.
I know Percy is your guy... but you gotta admit, when you saw Vax pop those wings, for just a second at least you were swooning. Maybe that's
why you forgot about Percy for a little bit at the end lol
btw, remember the little girl that glared at Grog when they escaped the initial dragon attack on Emon? The one with the green eyes?... yep, Raishan! hiding all along.
You talked about wondering why Keyleth seemed to be approaching Vax when she rejected him before, saying she had responsibilities- it's complicated! She still has responsibilities, yes, but her feelings aren't going away. They're getting stronger. Couple that with her getting a little more confident, and a little more wise, and realizing they could all die at any moment.. And she may be a little more willing to be a little selfish, where her heart is concerned. We'll see if anything comes of that in season 3!
Well, not to mention that at least in the animation her father basically said "Go for it!", dunno if this hapened in the campaign.
I think it always had more to do with her fear than her obligations.
@@RustyChilders Spoilers from the campaign:
Considering becoming the new leader of the air Ashari means she prolongs her lifespan by about 1000 years, the fear and the obligations kind of go hand in hand.
_Edit_
Also, that outro to this video was so precious. It's been a joy watching these two seasons with you, and I'm looking forward to many more. 💝
I'm so glad you're enjoying this show. Thanks for the videos, you make life a little less crappy.
So wonderful that you were perfectly timed to watch S1 and jump directly into S2! Love it!
I wish we had gotten that scene!
Firefly tv show is a good watch to fill the Vox Machina hole in your heart!
If you find your self needing a smile, Critical Role has your back. Just check out “Scanlan’s songs” for an hour of Sam Riegel singing cheeky renditions of hit songs to literally inspire and heal his friends
If you’re itching for thrills, check out Exandria: An Intimate history for a Matt Mercer narrated history lesson of this world, then Exandria Unlimited: C A L A M I T Y for twenty hours of terror, drama, love, and humor.
100% agree; EXU Calamity is some of the just plain best podcast/video content available.
It’s a fun clip to check out from the stream (won’t have any spoilers now)
Actually it DIDN'T work! But Kaylie (Matt) rolled a natural 1 on her attack roll so Matt wove a beautiful narrative around the nat 1.
@@mayaenglish5424 Haha, thank you, it was half remember from years ago, but he did get a "amazing speech" advantage? I think i will have to go rewatch that scene now.
Can't really get mad at Scanlan - Dragon-fear is a thing that many D&D players are familiar with.
Just wanted to say it’s been fun being on the journey with you, and glad I found a new favorite reaction streamer! Welcome to the Critters!
One upside to normal life getting busy, I had this reaction as a bonus treat 1 week after episode 12. :)
Thank you again for the past weeks of fun, watching you having fun with this show.
Now we all wait for next season.
Another heart-warming reaction 😊. I believe Raishan is also called "the Diseased Deceiver", a name she definitely earned. She can change her shape and mask herself even from someone with Vex's ability.
There's another reason which I am assuming will be explained in the opening scene of episode 1 of season 3.
Your reactions & discussions are aweesome! Absolutely adore them.
Glad I found your channel, a lot of fun hearing your reactions. Love hearing takes from someone that hasn't watched the CR campaigns
THAT'S WHO THAT WAS. I had no idea what happened there now it makes sense!
I feel like it's supposed to be ****** **********'s mustache, but I don't hate the connection to Robbie Daymond.
Oh, right, Akechi was on Critical Role too.
I just want to say thank you and I had an amazing time watching this reaction. Kind of going through some things right now and watching along with has been a great comfort. Thank you again.
The ancient mines of Kraghammer is a easter egg from the live game.
Long time watcher, appreciate the long open. Im gonna rewatch as often as i can, too.
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this along with you, your reactions are so fun and genuine! Thanks let me/us tag along with you on this wild ride 😊
Vax sprouting wings and looking glorious instantly brought me back to early 90s fantasy anime where almost every hero and villain had wings
Mwah first! Happy Valenties/Galentines Day Angela. Been waiting for this.
Dimension 20 and the Dropout channel are amazing! I really think you would like them.
The algorithm only just put you in front of me, so I have just crashed my way through your entire LoVM run in two days 😆 You've been my favourite reaction to a series I absolutely love. Looking forward to seeing you tackle the next couple of seasons when they come out!
I never commented on your pronunciation of Umbrasyl bc I don't think it's that important. But you kept trying so I wanted you know you got it right a few times and really close many more in these last couple episodes. So. Good work.
LOVE the show, LOVE the reactions! Keep up the great work!
Castlevania! It's on Netflix and is really good! 🙂
"Just a silly cartoon, about a funny little game."
Remember the little green eye girl from episode 2-1? Matt Mercer plays the long game.
For the record, Kraghammer was the point of start of stream for Critical role. Almost 8 years ago, nearly to the day (March was episode 1)
Keep in mind what Raishan (the Diseased Deceiver) actually said; she could have meant "I hate Thordak as much as you (do)," or "I hate Thordak as much as (I hate) you."
That being said, it might be nice to have a dragon on their side, for once...
that's not how Green's really roll. More like, you are now useful to the dragon, as long as you keep doing what she says.
@Loki the Cat I'm real rusty on what saves him then. I could have sworn he survived cuz he changed creature size classes. My bad. It's been awhile
@@lokithecat7225 appreciate the correction, mate
06:00 Let's say they're "vestigial." 😃
It sort of hit me that when Osysa was going through everyone's insecurities back in episode 2, most of which came up again throughout the season, she said about Scanlan: _"No one cares about you. I'm no different."_
And _that_ was the reason Scanlan was able to kill Umbrasyl.
“ I don’t know we’re facing him and not the other ones right now.”
I love that you said we instead of they.
Shows true Critter commitment.
Also just to be clear since I'm not sure if it was... Raishan is the dragon that killed Uriel with poison at the beginning.
In answer to your question about what series that you should react to while waiting for the next season of LoVM, these are my suggestions:
1) Thundarr The Barbarian (1980 - 1982) - Imagine if someone took Conan The Barbarian, Star Wars, Planet Of The Apes, and The Road Warrior, and mixed them together into a Saturday morning cartoon aimed at children, and you will have Thundarr The Barbarian.
Live Action Series
1) Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1994 - 1999) - This series stars Kevin Sorbo in the titular role of Hercules.
Travis willinghams spooktacular is also great
Been eagerly awaiting this :)
Bidet and beep beep, Critter! Can’t wait to see you react to the Mighty Nein!

Don't forget Grog getting his Keg of Ale crushed lol
@@lokithecat7225 what you just did was retconning lol
Castilvania is a really good animated Netflix show with amazing characters, humour, fights, and feels.
This was a super fun playlist to rewatch, Angela. 😃 Like with some good books/movies/tv shows, I got new things out of the second viewing. I hope more people go over this playlist again before S3. Thanks for keeping me company all day. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Thank you for watching! Every time I see you comments I'm like "god I miss that show" and " I can't wait for more"
@@funnylilgalreacts When I helped back the Kickstarter for this I was 112 pounds and didn't expect to live to see it air.
Did u notice that the clip of the raven's eye when vax gets his wings mirrors the one that opens the intro every eps.
I have Arcane on my channel!
@@funnylilgalreacts Yeah you do, what a tear jerker that show was/is.
@@funnylilgalreacts I'm sorry... I completely missed that you had already done it!
(I love you too, and I wanna hug you.)
Also, since you're interested in CR but are a tad afraid because of how huge it is, I would suggest watching "Exandria Unlimited: Calamity" - it's only four episodes and is a prequel to everything else.
Didn't he fail the dragons terryfying presence? And he does a lot because he has crap for wisdom.
it's actually been part of the Scanlan in the animated show - when he has time to think about it.
